If I was Arte I’d do like the Dodgers and say give us Harper and Wheeler for free and throw in 25% of what they’re still owed and thanks bye.

The thing about CF is, neither Adell or Marsh are vastly superior CF than Trout. Trout is visually better than Adell. Marsh is about as good as Trout, but certainly not better, at least not yet.
The only prospect who is visually, undeniably better than Trout in CF is Jordyn Adams, and even then, Adams lacks refinement.
Trout should stay in CF until...
1. He can't.
2. Adams isn't traded and develops.
At any rate, I think you're still looking at 2-5 more years of Mike Trout in CF. And that's a good thing. He isn't the best defensive CF, but he is top 10.
The only reason I ask is all the stats that people post that Trout isn’t a good defensive center fielder. Which visually I think he’s a good one but I honestly know nothing about defensive metrics etc. I barely know anything about offensive random stats.

Defense falls under the umbrella of Pitching, I think. It's all "run prevention" but defense is seriously overlooked.
This is why I think Minasian will bring in a RF via FA or trade. Why have an elite infield defense if you're going to have shitty corner outfielders?
As an aside, the Angels Facebook page really shows how idiotic the casual fanbase is. They are all complaining because we didn't get a pitcher. Truly an amazing thing, social media.
At what point do we think about moving Trout to one of the corner outfield positions and replacing him at CF? Could Trout play Left or Right better than he plays Center?

Nice first move. Hopefully he plays well this next year to warrant an extension or a mid season trade if our prospects start to push for starting jobs on the big league club. Cheaper contract than Simmons while playing similar defense. Good job!

my dad used to work a 7/11 graveyard shift as a 2nd job. i would hang out with him during his shift because i wanted to spend time with him. i remember watching guys buy a book of 500 tickets and just stand there scratching them off. i have to say it did have a certain degree of intrigue and suspense, as i sat nearby drinking my nuclear hot hot chocolate.
I can only imagine. I’m 38 watching the video being like I know these people aren’t gonna come out on top but still it’s entertainment watching them scratch off this many tickets

you say this as a joke, but did you know a strong segment of the population, including a disturbingly relevant percentage of young adults believe this very thing? that's scary.
anyhwho, i'm waiting for something fun to talk about.
Mr Beast made a video where he spent 1 million dollars on scratch off tickets it’s pretty entertaining.

i won't go on about this because few people care on a baseball board, but we're in the middle of a globally mismanaged pandemic and the usa is the poster child, i certainly wouldn't be advising people to put all their money in the stock market right now. there is a massive correction coming from the banks again and it's going to start at the year end. having said that, that's my opinion based off the information that i have, do as you please.
One I didn’t say put all your money in the stock market I said to put money in that and save as much as possible. And 2 sure there’s always some correction coming. But timing the market is foolish your basically guessing. Do what you feel comfortable with put money in the stock market or don’t the markets up and there’s a stimulus coming December or January all reports look optimistic for 2021 for the stock market but no one can predict the future. For me over the long haul I trust that the market will win out.

dangerous advice when it's at an all time high and there's a recession on the way.
Never try to time the market.

Sucks. People are getting let go more and more the longer and longer covid is around. No fans in the stadiums, shortening the season. It’ll be real interesting if fans will be allowed in next season or if more things will be locked down. Disney is letting go of something like 3,200 people. Times are definitely weird. Everyone should be saving and putting their money in the stock market as much as they can right now. Never know what tomorrow may bring.

"But that will change as redevelopment occurs on the property over the next 25 years, with the open-space residential park scheduled for completion within 15 years of the deal’s closing."
I somehow missed this the first time I read the article. I'm confused as to when building will begin around the stadium to make it better. It's not exciting if I have to wait 15 years for the ballpark to be a better experience.
Did it take 15 years to make Petco the way it is? Other ball parks around the U.S.A the way they are? I didn't think so.
Downtown San Diego existed before Petco park went in. Right now Nothing exists except Angels stadium and a parking. But this deal seriously just sounds like they want to put all these maps get it all agreed to by the city and then flip it for someone else to incur all these costs of building it. I don’t know how or why this is a 25 plus year deal in the works.

With Sugano being posted, i think he's another name to look at. From what I've read seem like he's going to be a mid-rotation arm
His career stats in Japan are similar to Maeda, and just like Maeda, Sugano doesn't rely on his fastball.
Sugano could be another bundy like pitcher, throws a good amount of curves and slider, which are both plus and mixes in a fatball and fork.
could be either a 2-4 in a rotation.
31 year old pitcher getting his first shot at the majors. Ya I think I’ll let some other team take that gamble.

I appreciate the optimism. But Arte is 74. He probably won't be around to see this project completed, which makes me wonder how much of this will be completed. Also that the Angels project will take 25 years, where the Ducks project is shooting for a 2028 completion. It just doesn't sound right.
Ducks is 2024 last I read
-
Exciting stuff. Ducks will be the first ones to get things completed and Angels will be right behind them 21 years from then. Should be exciting times.

But dissimilar to the Dodgers they aren’t paying two other guys $35 million a year for the next 6-10 years. Also dissimilar to the Dodgers the Dodgers have virtually zero holes to fill on their roster.
Agreed I’m not advocating for them signing him. I’m just stating you can’t trade for him and not re sign him.

The idea of giving up assets for Lindor just to watch him leave after the season makes no sense to me. If we were one player away then sure. But we are 3-5 pitchers away.
You wouldn’t trade for Lindor and then watch him leave. Similar to the Dodgers and Betts you’d trade for Lindor then sign him to long term contract. Otherwise there’s no point in trading for him.

It's not one or the other. Happ is going to be a cheap target for the rotation and it won't impact other positions of need.
They're not blowing their wad on JA fuckin Happ.
You crack me up. Read what I wrote and not what you think I said. I never said they were blowing their wad on Happ. But the money Arte has to spend isn’t infinite. If the budget is 30 or 40 million Happ would take up at least say 5 million. So the Angels would have less money to spend elsewhere. I wouldn’t offer Happ anything I don’t think he’d be worth it he’s old and his last “real” season was an over 4 era. Have your own opinion you are allowed mine is I don’t want the Angels to spend on over 35 year old players. Take a breath and breathe it’ll be ok.

Really does depend on cost and years.
Not for me. A 38 year old pitcher who in the last “real” season has a 4 plus era is not something I want in the Angels rotation. I’d rather they stand pat then spend money on someone like that. I’d rather they spend that money on a back up outfielder or ss or closer

@Kevinb what are your thoughts on the Angels pursuit of Happ?
Do you think he’d sign with us if we offered a 10 year deal Plus a 5 year personal services contract?

If only all professional sports contracts were like the NFL. Easy Peasy.

You just described every pitcher.
Everyone has risk but a 34 year old pitcher with a history of injuries has a higher risk to him than just random player.

I still like Harper I’d take him and Bauer on the Angels would be awesome.
