  1. I don't know....He's been pretty consistent and under 4.00 for 3 of the last 4 years....that's a 3 on most staffs....probably not a 3 in a really good rotation....
  2. We don't have the minor league talent to get a significant rental this year....so it really isn't an issue...
  3. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but add to your list of "what ifs"---what if DiPoto had checked the calendar and realized that this was a "Good Ervin" year and kept Santana? And for good measure, decided to tender Torii Hunter a qualifying offer rather than siging Hamilton?
  4. Must be the HRs that bothers Scioscia...he's not enough like Willits...Shuck is the man....
  5. Fair point but, if he gets a qualifying offer and is a Type A free agent, you would give up a 1st round draft pick to sign him this winter....so, if you could get him relatively cheaply (not sure what that would be), might be better than giving up a 1st round pick next year....dunno....
  6. He did...but (if the stories are true) he then screwed things up by getting involved with Pujols and Hamilton....so, on balance, you probably need to let the baseball people do their jobs....
  7. Evidently the market isn't great....Heyman mentions in his article that we have been interested in the past.....Obviously we aren't buyers at this point so you would be looking long term....given our pitching depth (none), might be worth considering if you could get a contract worked out prior to any deal....not sure how you make a deal with little minor league depth to trade...somebody from the big league roster? Ianetta?...that wouldn't get it done....don't know... http://www.prosportsdaily.com/articles/hughes-market-may-not-be-what-the-yankees-hoped-258632.html
  8. Playoffs? You talking about the playoffs? http://www.stampedeblue.com/2011/12/7/2618401/ten-years-later-jim-moras-playoffs-rant-is-still-full-of-awesome
  9. Well, it's always a crapshoot....some of the Cuban/Japanese/International guys have been a bust....but we've done pretty well when we've jumped in--Kendrys being the biggest one we've signed...but Shiggy was a pretty good bullpen guy too....so give our current situation and the limitations on improving the roster through free agency or trade, I might think about signing this guy...if my scouts think he's good, I might overpay....upside but obviously more risk than an established big league guy....
  10. That is specifically why I said "because of the cap on international signings for young kids"....you are limited on younger, first time signing guys...but not on this guy....which is why we might want to think about him....
  11. With a cap on international signings for young kids, a so-so free agent market this winter and not a lot of depth for trades, might not be a bad idea to look at this guy, even if we overspend....hope for the best....we need to look outside the box to try and remake our roster.....
  12. Actually, Sabean has a pretty good track record with picking up veteran guys in season....
  13. Didn't say I'd do it just threw out the name in response to SoWhat's reports....
  14. Winning streaks are made up of good pitching....and a little luck probably....
  15. It's a Scioscia cliche but you do have to keep grinding...6 months is a long season...if the best you can do is get your head above .500, then that's what you try to do...
  16. I thought the trade with Atlanta was ok but, at least at this point, I'd probably rather have Walden....his numbers with the Braves are pretty good, although he had an arm issue earlier in the year also...
  17. Pretty much what he has to say (at least publically) at this point...and although noboby would expect it, if we win 10 out of the next 12, the landscape could still change....probably not going to be "all in" buyers if that happens but, to the limited extent that we might be sellers, you can change that plan....
  18. Wouldn't bet on Hanson....we just don't have any SP depth and the FA market doesn't look promising....probably will hang on to what we have, with the exception of Blanton, if an NL team wants to take on his contract.....
  19. My thought too.....this has been discussed but not sure we should consider trading him, even if he gets healthy in a hurry....we don't have any starting pitching depth in the organization and the FA market is weak...if he's reasonable, I would sign him....
  20. Mike has found another substitute son...a missing piece of his life since Willits left....
  21. Not trying to down play what he's done lately but, since he's on a roll (or something like it), I'd consider using him as a trade chip.....a National League team might bite...not sure the return would be much but we might shed the contract and, with the season slipping away, give Richards a look.....
  22. Reggie Willits Part Deuce....bring up Calhoun or somebody else....
  23. I'll never get off the Arte bangwagon....I remember Jackie Autry....he's made mistakes and maybe we're in for a dry spell but I appreciate his aggresiveness and willingness to spend...
