Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny

saw it this afternoon and it was very meh. Seems like it was made primarily for everyone who saw Raiders back in the theater when it was originally released. It’s hard for a guy in his 70s to make an action movie, and there were definitely points where the script accommodated his age or CGI/stunt double was used. The best parts of this movie focus on solving clues to find a treasure.

We find out why his son is not in this movie (played by Shia Le Bouef in the last Indy movie), and we get an update on his marriage to Marion.

There’s speculation that someone from this movie will carry on the franchise without Ford. I see it as possible.

It has a sweet ending that the old timers will appreciate.

I loved it. They almost lost me with the third act, but this movie kicked ass. They didn’t try to reinvent the wheel or anything here and that was the right choice. It’s basically one long chase, which was perfect. Phoebe Waller-Bridge was great and her character had so much more potential as a successor to Indy than Shia LeBouf’s. With that said, I don’t think they should continue and they certainly don’t seem to try to make it set in stone like they did at the end of Crystal Skull.

I honestly don’t understand the critical reaction to this film, just like I didn’t understand the critical reaction to The Little Mermaid. Like that one, the audience scores for Indy are more in line with most filmgoers’ experience. This movie hits just the note it needs to. Speaking of notes, you gotta love John Williams.

  2. If this team keeps winning and has a legit shot, you don’t trade him unless you want this team to fall apart. He’s the guy we’d want to trade for if we felt it would get us over the hump. The thing is, he’s already here. If we had our current bullpen earlier in the year, this wouldn’t even be a discussion and we’d all be losing our shit over the team’s insane record. Everybody would be dead set on winning it all.

Looks like it was the Ukes who blew up the Nord Stream pipeline.

US had intelligence of Ukrainian plan to attack Nord Stream project, Washington Post reports

The United States learned of a Ukrainian plan to attack the Nord Stream natural gas pipelines three months before they were damaged last September by underwater explosions, The Washington Post reported on Tuesday, citing leaked information posted online.

@Jay’s intelligence gathering abilities are not nearly as robust, apparently.

It’s really not fair to compare such masterful feats of architecture and engineering.

…and yet that field looks better than the actual drawings they just released. The new park looks absolutely atrocious. It retains all of the terrible qualities of the Coliseum. There’s TONS of foul territory and circular decks. What the hell are they thinking? It’s the Coliseum without Mt. Davis + a roof.

They should go with a modified version of the scrapped Cisco Field. That had the potential to be one of the best parks in the league. It was beautiful.

    Idiots.

So did you poll the other 49 states on their opinion of Florida or are you just projecting your own irrational hatred of Florida onto the other 49 states?

The title of this thread is itself a reference to a long standing societal take on Florida.

There’s even a thread about the great people of Florida on a highly questionable baseball discussion board that you may be interested in joining, though I’m not sure you’ll be able to get the username of Jay:

Strangest season ever as a Laker fan.  At one point, this team was so frustrating to watch and seemed like a lottery team.  Then, a flurry of trades and 1/2 the team is new.  How does a roster turnover like this result in such success.  This team is so fun to watch and root for.  Western Conference championship here we go, Tuesday night vs. Nuggets.  Jokic vs. AD should be amazing to watch!

This has to be just about the most successful mid-season/deadline overhaul a professional sports team has ever had. The numbers looked good on paper from a pure stats perspective when they made the trades, but they way they’ve come together is an absolute best case scenario. Super impressive and props are definitely due to Pelinka.

Looks like recruiting is picking up, including 3 good transfers coming it.

4 good transfers now, but of course that’s relative to what he had to start with. It’s a good foundation for him to build high school recruiting upon. I guess we’ll see what happens. At least it will be watchable, which will be nice.

Funny thing is, we have significantly more traffic deaths than other nations as well. We simply do not value human life in this country.  And before Kotch chimes in, yes that includes abortion as well as help for children that arent aborted.

This is true. While the US is significantly below world average per capita in terms of automobile deaths, it exceeds the average per capita rate seen in high income countries. I wonder if this is related to the US’ lack of commitment to public transportation in spots as well as how spread out this country is. Then again, a lack of robust public transport may be part of the same problem/selective focus that results in the lack of help for children that need it.
