One option:
Ky Bush, LHP, St. Mary’s College, 6-6, 240, age 21
Baseball America rank: No. 47
BA scouting grade (20-80): 50 | BA risk evaluation: High
Fastball: 60 | Curveball: 45 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 50 | Control: 55
Scout’s take: Went 7-5 with a 2.99 ERA and 112 strikeouts to just 19 walks in 78.1 innings in his only season at St. Mary’s. A giant left-hander with a really good arm, which don’t fall off trees every day. Fastball has touched 96 mph.

We picked a pitcher -- I'm seriously pretty darn happy with that. For some reason i can't shake the feeling he just looks physically like a RP. But whatever, can't complain. Just glad it's not another athletic OF/MI who just started playing baseball a couple weeks ago.
Sure Kumar was there to be taken, but MLB draft (for a multitude of reasons -- whether right or not) just doesn't fall under the BPA selection process. They had 2-3 guys identified and it would be them no matter what.
Now go get some more pitchers today 2-10....maybe sprinkle a catcher in there while you're at it.

How about now?
You don't think that if he wins the cy young this year that there won't be any team willing to pay big buck for him? Let's not kid ourselves -- teams don't care about the quality of the individual....they care about performance. It's a moot point because he won't be winning the Cy Young and may not pitch for a while this year (if at all). I only said he'd get that big money IF he wins the Cy Young this year (or one of the top contenders). Not happening now, so i'm not sure why you brought this up. Unless you think he will win the Cy Young this year (or top contender for such)....which is surprising considering the fact he's not even in the top 10 NL WAR for pitchers (nor ERA+, RE24, etc.). Even if he didn't have this issue, he wasn't even headed for a top 10 Cy Young finish. So still not sure why you are bring my comment up. Somewhat odd to be honest.

Such a talented and amazing player. So fun to watch. Being wasted on this team. I hope he can showcase his skills in the playoffs one day as an Angel.

If we do end up selling, I hope we double up say with closer and Heaney/Cobb or Iglesias - for a more impactful return. Quality back (not quantity). Giving a team a closer and either a SS or SP which are rentals (no LT commitment) is quite enticing for a team hoping to make a 2021 WS run. Especially ones looking to add previously lost playoff revenues (game day).

Future Starter - BP day that is

The fact that it’s June 2021 says everything about this topic.
btw, I feel like it’s Groundhog Day and this is same post (with names changed) each of the past several years.

So If the Angels could only play themselves then maybe they’d be serious playoff contenders.

We will miss you in the gameday threads.
You can find me in the naked curling forum gameday threads. I've seen the future.

Assuming Leiter/Rocker gone -- it's Jobe, Bachman, Madden or bust for me at #9 (in that order).

The game of baseball is terrible and virtually unwatchable right now (imho) -- so this fits right in.

Let's just get to 2030 as quickly as possible

Dang we obviously got the wrong Baltimore Orioles #4 OA busted SP draft pick. Can we have a redo?

He is giving up a home run like every fourth inning. Until he gets that under control, he won’t be that effective.
Maddon simply needs to not put him in on that 4th inning -- problem solve

Ooofff this game smh. Early but ugly

I like reading mock drafts. It’s fun. But if there is any sport where a mock draft is virtually worthless results wise, it’s baseball. Fun yes; but not worth a shiny penny.

Is he wrong? You don’t think Upton would have a trade market right now if the Angels paid down next year?
I think there would be a limited amount of teams interested....and it would depend on how much the angels would pay it down before they would want him. The vast majority of teams would not be interested in him. Easier said than done imho.
-
You have this wrong. The real question is: would another team trade for Upton and how much of his salary would they pay?

Detmer's is still tinkering with his game and adding, refining pitches. The last thing you'd do to a kid like that is throw him into the majors.
We have other young arms (Barria, Sandoval, Saurez, Packy, etc.) that have earned some starts as needed. Just let Detmer continue to build his repertoire and gain professional innings in the minors. He can be brought up the last month of the season for start or two if all goes well.

Angels select LHP Ky Bush, St. Mary's, 45th overall in the 2nd round

Looks a little Skaggs like being so tall throwing that curve.
Wonder if this means we're not getting Sam under slot. Still possible i guess -- for use in 3+. But looking less likely now.
