so after Keuchel signed, Ryu can now stay healthy?
nice try.
No, but it would make the risk more necessary to take now. Since there’s now nobody left to sign.
Thanks for playing.

lets play a game of "Remember When . . . "
Hell, that was before Keuchel went off the board.

I didnt realize the off-season ended the moment Ryu signed.
Well, he was the last remaining “good” FA starter. The only way the Angels can acquire one now is via trade. And other teams will know that the Angels need pitching and can’t sign anyone now...

Did anyone really think we were serious about Ryu after Billy’s recent comments about our pitching situation?
I just hope we don’t lose Adel or Marsh now for someone like Price.
Trading Marsh would be fine if they can get someone like Jon Gray, for example. But yeah...Eppler better be working on something to make sense of all of this.

Yikes
Eppler better be working on a trade for someone like Jon Gray. That’s the only thing that HAS to make sense, right? Surely Eppler isn’t stupid enough to think this current rotation will get the Angels to the postseason?

Idk man
He has to be working on a trade for someone like Syndergaard, Clevinger, etc. Right? ......

FIRE EPPLER
Haha I’m now convinced that’s what he really wants. Now other teams know how desperate the Angels are for pitching and will make the Angels overpay in any trade talks.
-
Since this is subjective and based on one’s own expectations, I’d give him a C only because of Rendon (though Arte had something to do with that). Would be an F without Rendon. He can still get to a B or even an A if he can acquire a frontline starter.

i'm telling you as a certainty they aren't giving up clevinger for a top prospect package that starts at #74. or whatever marsh is. clevinger is awesome, controlled, and underpaid. you're giving up your first born for that dude. it's why the dodgers/indians trade isn't done because the dodgers are holding out for the 3rd, etc. prospect which is what marsh would be at the top.
it's not happening. set your hopes elsewhere.
if the dodgers do trade for clevinger, it will be interesting to see if gavin lux is included in the deal. because i'm 100% certain they don't want to trade him.
Damn man, so you’re saying Marsh is nothing special? I thought he’d be worth a lot more given how so many experts here talk about him.

i don't think there's any angel package in the known universe where the angels get clevinger without giving up adell. i love marsh, but he's not getting it done for clevinger. if somebody says trout, i'll go to a witch doctor and have him curse you with testicular cancer.
Who knows? Maybe Marsh, Canning and Deveaux could get it done.

Yes of course. The conversation starts with Adell. Or possibly Marsh, Canning and a lotto ticket like Jackson or Maitan or Adams.
The Angels need an ace/top of the rotation arms. They should part with Marsh and Canning, if necessary.

The Dodgers farm system and MLB players they would be trading are better than anything the Angels would offer. Since Adell is off limits, there's no way the Angels could even match their prospects. The Dodgers are a smarter and better run organization. They drafted better and are in a position where they can afford to get both Lindor and Clevinger.
Well...that sucks, then. I guess it’s back to stockpiling back-of-the-rotation arms, then.

ok, I'll play.
put together a package that would entice Cleveland to send us Lindor and Clevinger.
Lindor isn’t necessary. The putting together a package for Clevinger part is up to Eppler. He’s the GM. The Angels surely have something that can entice Cleveland, right?

TODAY: The Dodgers continue to be “very aggressive in pursuit of” Clevinger and Lindor, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale tweets.
Of course they are. The Dodgers aim high, even when they don’t necessarily need starting pitching. It would be nice to see some interest from the Angels, instead of stockpiling back-of-the-rotation arms.

I mean...this seems a little unrealistically optimistic. I'd be pretty surprised of we signed Ryu - recent signaling is pointing that we may well be done.
I don’t believe it. Eppler can’t be that dumb. He has to be working on something else.
-
The Angels couldn’t go 3/56? I really hope that this is only because Eppler is aiming a lot higher than Keuchel...

You're not wrong but he's actually someone that may just need some tweaking. I'm trying to find an article that broke his numbers down on a pitch type basis. Dude was wrecking people when focusing on a sinker/change mix and getting lit up on his regular FB and slider.. Basically, his entire success was built on being the complete opposite of what they are pushing now -- they need for him to embrace his strengths.
Well, let’s hope so. I don’t know if the Angels are in a position for an experiment (they need certainty at this point), though maybe they can extract some value out of him. I hope that Eppler has something else up his sleeve (a trade for a #1/#2 type?) because this is underwhelming, so far.
-
There’s a reason this guy couldn’t get any more than a one-year deal and for only $9 million. Because the underlying numbers suggest he’s another Blanton waiting to happen.
Steamer is projecting an ERA close to 5.5 with a 0.5 WAR.

Dude just stop. If we had in house options better we wouldn’t be bitching about signing a guy like this.
Don’t complain if/when he posts a 5-6 ERA, then, and the Angels end up releasing him.

So, barring a collapse on his part, 10/360 is almost guaranteed. Ya, he chose the Yankees because of the years/$. No other team came even close to that.

I agree and it’s what I’m hoping for at this point.
I’m thinking Marsh would have to be included in a deal for Gray and I think I’d be ok with that
They should. What were they going to do with Marsh, anyway? Trout and Adell will be here for many years. Upton still has upside and isn’t going anywhere. Where does that leave Marsh? And it’s not like it’d be hard to get an OF once Upton’s contract expires.
-
Ryu is probably the kind of player who’d just mail it in after getting his contract. The Dodgers know that in all likelihood and are avoiding him.
-
Keuchel and Gray would be the best the Angels can do out of the remaining free agents and reportedly available trade targets.
