    Good stuff, @ryanmfalla!!
Wouldn’t it be an awesome story if both brothers pitched and pitched effectively out of the Angels bullpen at the same time?

They need a year to just reboot the culture and expectations. It's been a meat-grinder of a decade of stress and pressure to win with a MLB team and minor league system not able to support that. Throw in all of the turnover in the FO and management, the handful of 'scandals' and bad press and it's left the org in a place where it just isn't desirable.

But the youth in place, an experienced, positive, culture-oriented coaching staff and a savvy GM could turn that around quickly. Skip the big money signings, develop the kids, let the coaching staff settle and farm take a step forward. There's still enough talent here for things to gel and, health-permitting, turn into a fun, young, 85+ win team that competes. All of the sudden that could be very appealing for free agents again.

Yeah he wasn’t at Washington’s presser. Or Ohtani’s Team MVP on field ceremony. Has made zero statements or appearances. As was said here or on Twitter, nothing about Anaheim or Tempe Diablo.
It’s possible the new Orioles owners approached Arte first and balked at the price.
A fair amount of smoke here and an absent owner we haven’t seen or heard from in months. Perry hired all his own coaching staff, except Hurdle. Add that to the really odd offseason of spending $30 mil on the bullpen and nothing else. When Arte missed Cole he went straight to Rendon. A lot of things aren’t adding up—the whole offseason has been very un-Arte like.

I think the less exciting bullpen signings (Garcia/Cimber/Cisnero/Kolarek/Plesac) are meant to insulate prospect arms from being pushed too quickly. Guys like Joyce and Bachman likely wouldn’t have earned call ups if it weren’t for a lack of organizational depth and the desperation mode we were in thx to Shohei’s presence. If Joyce can get to consistently throwing strikes and start making some back to back appearances he will earn the callup. Bachman likely going to be SP exclusively. Cisnero looks like move that’s healthy for the org

I find it interesting that Arte has been pretty disconnected from everything since last August.
Arte was absent at Ron Washington’s press conference.
Arte’s reaction after Shohei Ohtani left.
Perry has only signed relievers, major league reserves and minor league depth.
Overall vagueness of the organization. The direction of the team and the club’s PR just seems off.
Zero updates on Tempe Diablo Stadium’s refurbishment
No news on the stadium land deal.
This could all be a sign that like the Orioles, Arte may be doing a silent sale of the Angels.

I feel the same way. This team needs to start over and it will be a bonus if Trout shows up this season. Hopefully Arte sells and they can start with a clean slate. Adding Snell and Bellinger isn’t going to make them contend. Maybe Arte selling will help like it has with the Washington Commanders.

I am ok with this group simply because this is the rebuild the Angels needed to get serious about.
I hope this is the squad, and there is no Snell or Bellinger because that doesn't complete a team, it just adds payroll to an unfinished product for fringe stars.

I don't want to be the douche that says "this isn't fantasy baseball," but...it isn't fantasy baseball. In this context, it means that players have to want to come to your team - you can't just take them in the draft or buy them as you wish (out-bidding others). Sure, Arte could probably sit Snell down and make him an offer he can't refuse, but if I'm Snell I'd rather play for a healthier franchise with a smarter owner, so that offer would have to be truly absurd. And then we're just back where we've been for the last decade: burdened by huge contracts with no sign of getting out.
Maybe people don't want to hear this, but the Angels aren't a desireable team to play for right now. They're not the worst, but there are probably a dozen teams that most players would rather play for, and half a dozen or more that all would prefer.

This is the issue with rankings. How extensively do you think scouts have looked at the Angels' system as opposed to, say, the Yankees? Or Baltimore?
It's a catch 22. The "good" systems get more attention and therefore higher rankings. The bad ones do not.
I think people here probably know more about this system than fucking ESPN does. This site has a dedicated group who legitimately follow our prospects in depth. Of course we'll be biased, but the overall knowledge is going to be much higher. Do you think ESPN or MLB have even seen Caden Dana pitch? Most likely they just recycle what other outlets are saying.

As has been said by a few of the smart people on here and now by me, if our farm had Neto, Schanuel, O’Hoppe, Silseth, Joyce along with Rada, Kerry and Dana, the farm ranking would be tough half, maybe top 10.  But since they’ve been promoted the Angels suck at drafting.

Oh -- no, I agree with you.  There are also teams that do a really good job of translating tools into performance, once you get the rep for being able to do that it will have some carryover effect.  But that also works against the Angels because they have consistently brought up unfinished products and in some cases likely hurt them by doing so.
I'm sure there are a large number of scouts that look at the Angels and think -- sure those guys have talent but the Angels won't get it out of them.

Meh...  Some of it is just the reality that they have moved guys up very quickly.  If Neto, O'Hoppe, Joyce, Silseth and Schanuel were all still in AAA you'd likely see them all in the top 100 -- Silseth being the biggest stretch because he's not toolsy but his actual AAA performance would have been hard to ignore.
This has been an issue since about 2017, the lack of MLB depth has created a situation where guys were constantly being called up way too soon.

If MLB.com wants to bet that the 94 prospects ranked ahead of him will put up a better OBP/wRC+ through their first 30 MLB games, I'll take that bet.

Look at Doug Mientkiewicz 2001-2003 seasons, solid .380 OBP, .820 OPS (116 OPS+) 10-15 homers, 35 doubles.  Thats what I think we will see for a decade for Schanuel, with the upside of more homers.

I don't think it will make any real difference in how they use the pitchers other than they will pitch more often.  A deeper pen helps them... regardless, having a couple long guys like Suarez and Plesac may help as well.  If they do decide to limit pitcher innings at some point my guess is they may just have guys skip starts or have a swingman start in their stead.
Minasian has done a solid job with the pen, much better than the Loup and Tepera winter, or the clusterfuck that was the year before where it seemed like talent wasn't a priority so much as arm angles were.
I really like the idea of adding another starting pitcher and having Daniel and Silseth waiting in the wings.  Let's pretend that Bachman does what he hasn't ever done and stays off the DL, that Silseth continues to do what he did and Davis Daniels picks up where he left off.  Those three would be the best three SP options they have had in AAA in a very long time.

Hey smart guys got a question for you. A couple of assumptions here, one we are going to a 5 man rotation and the other is we can carry one less pitcher because Shohei was a two way player, although I am not sure that will impact the number of pitchers in the pen.  Anyway, here is my question, do you see a chance our starters will be asked to go a little deeper into games as they are maturing?  Or the fact they are pitching in a traditional 5 man rotation, would that limit innings per start because they will be asked to start a few more games over the course of a season? Only a hand full of pitchers in the majors averaged 6 innings per start last year.  Canning averaged the most innings per start as an Angel at 5.77 innings. All of our starters averaged over 5 innings which feels like the first time in a long time.  Interested in your thoughts.

Maybe if you were a (formerly) elite athlete with a HOF career and you were receiving zero interest, you'd consider this, but Votto apparently doesn't feel his career is over yet. Whether that's denial....
Flip side, if you're the Angels FO and you privately do not think there's a real threat to compete, but have the opportunity to bring in someone of Votto's rep on-field and off to help guide some youngsters for a few months, get a few hairbrained casual fans excited into watching, buying jerseys, thinking the Angels' had a renewed chance, and maybe generate a little karmic goodwill/positive culture boost after years of bad PR and losing a baseball demigod all for the cost of a mil or two and one 40-man...
I come back to what I said earlier....if you truly believe the Angels are intending to seriously compete in 2024, or at least that that's what they're trying to do, Votto doesn't make any sense at all. If you believe there's a non-public facing admission that this is a development/rebuild year, Votto for 1/$5M or whatever is fine. Not good. Not impact. Just fine. Paying a good baseball guy to have one last hurrah and hopefully trickle down some lessons and values to a room full of kids in a clubhouse that badly needs a boost. He probably doesn't make it to summer.

    He's not really contradicting himself.
The dude is a LHB, plays great defense in CF and at 1B if needed -- all that shit makes a ton of sense for the Angels, but he's going to cost a lot more than he's likely going to be worth and he's going to want to get paid for a while longer than makes sense. He's also coming off a season where a lot of the advanced stuff leans towards it having been extremely fluky.

Side note..  I can almost see Arte thinking..  so you took our MVP eh?  I'm gonna sign your former MVP, so there!!!!
