  1. I feel like you and I are the only ones agreeing with this..
  2. Okay so then go trade Simmons for $15M back and sign Cole and Rendon.....
  3. To be honest i've loved what i've seen fro Fletcher at SS. Obviously we all compare him to Simmons which is why no one thinks he can handle it...
  4. Exactly. If they have a great offseason by signing Cole and maybe see an opportunity where they have a suitor for Simmons that clears $ and brings back a good return then it should be considered. I do think it's time the Angels focus heavily on acquiring SP since our farm consists of hitters. That's why Simmons could help with SP....
  5. I do look at it from the financial side. We can all agree that Simmons is one of the best defenders on the planet and the best at shortstop. The issue is he's getting older and will be expensive. Obviously Fletcher, Rengifo, Jackson or even Wilson will never compare to Simmons. That's something that we've all become used with. I think if the Angels can find a defender who is still decent, like Fletcher or Rengifo, to take SS then go for it. Fletcher is still a good defender with good speed and can handle the bat at the top of the lineup. Plus he saves $15M. We're so fixated on having a strong lineup but we need to look at pitching now and if the extra $15M helps us fill a giant hole in the rotation then the Angels should do everything they can to fix it. Say Arte opens the books a little to go to $190M. We've already got $148M on the books for next season. We release Bour, Tropeano and Garcia which saves us $6.3M. So now we're at $141.7M with $48.3M to spend. Eventually that $15M either comes back in our pockets after 2020 or Eppler finds a trade where it clears the $15M. Suddenly that's $63.3M to spend this offseason. I'm not saying he's going to be traded. With his down year and value down I highly doubt it. But with Fletcher having and LaStella having good years and Rengifo/Thaiss almost ready to go, you'd have to assume that Simmons could be the odd one out due to age and $. He was the guy you paired with Trout to build around a few years ago. Hell, with $63.3M to spend to get Cole and Rendon. Or Cole and Strasburg.
  6. GMs always say that until a good package comes their way. And yes, that’s why I said his contract is backloaded. If it’s a 7yr $217M deal it could be 28,28,30,31,33,33,34 which is still an AAV of $31M
  7. Agreed, which is why'd we'd have to overpay without trading away Adell. Maybe even eat some $ from Simmons' contract as well. I wouldn't mind trading a SP prospect if we're going to get 3 pitchers.
  8. Simmons, Marsh, Suarez, Jackson.... would need few more but that's just my thought. Weather it works or not. OR Simmons and package to another team.
  9. Say you're the GM and Arte decides to open the payroll up to $190M after a very disappointing season. The 2020 ARB estimates numbers have come in which add roughly $27M to the payroll that already sits around $121M. Total there is $148M on the books for the 2020 season. With $42M in available room to spend before hitting $190M what would your GM decisions be? I'll go first for the 2020 season contract numbers. (this only includes 2020 numbers. Some contracts will be backloaded) Current Payroll: $148M Sign Gerrit Cole: $28M in year one. (backloaded) Current Payroll: $176M Sign Zack Wheeler: $15M in year one. (slightly backloaded) Current Payroll: $191M no contracts for Bour (est. $2.9M), Tropeano (est. $1.1M), Garcia (est. $2.3M). Saves the Angels $6.3M Current Payroll: $184.7M Trade Simmons plus prospects: Saves $15M Current Payroll: $169.7M Acquire Noah Syndergaard in Simmons trade: Adds $10M. Current Payroll: $179.7M Sign Martin Maldonado: $2.3M Current Payroll: $182M Spend the rest of the $8M remaining on offense or bullpen help.
  10. Friedman and Maddon love each other. Match made in heaven.
  11. And you’re right, but when you have a 3-1 lead and you bring a pitcher in that career-wish isn’t good in the playoffs, the league knows and was previously announced that he’d pitch tonight then you have to look at decisions being made. I’m sure the Nationals couldn’t wait until Kershaw came in. And once Kelly walked the first batter they should have brought Jansen in. He’s the closer. So yes, certain batters were terrible, but the managerial choices were extremely costly.
  12. Confirmed candidates are Joe Maddon, John Farrell and Buck Showalter. Still a mystery 4th guy that we will find out once he interviews.
  13. I’d like to see him push the payroll to around $190M-$195M. The AAV would still be less than that figure but it gives the Angels room to stay flexible come deadline time. Sign Gerrit Cole and Strasburg which would ride us around $197M in actual payroll and an AAV likely around $188M-$192M range. Cozart and Simmons come off the books for 2021 giving us back about $27.68M in salary. $30M comes off from Pujols in 2022 and $28M in 2023 when Upton is gone. The years 2021-2023 will free the Angels around $85.7M. We could ride with Cole, Strasburg, Ohtani, Canning as top four in 2022 with payroll flexibility to make a splash where it’s needed. By then our prospect should be developed enough to really help the team.
  14. No doubt the term “money talks bullshit walks” is true. Although I do think whoever the coach is can help, but only to a point. Maddon lets the players be themselves with a relaxed clubhouse environment and players might be drawn to that.
  15. Posey at the end of his career is a major upgrade at catcher for the Angels in any situation. Assuming he can catch many game... I’ll take him if SF eats some money
  16. No real Angels fan is going to root for the Dodgers to win. Under any circumstance.
