  1. I really hope the Angels don't make a significant trade..... yet. Keep Marsh and let him grow and evaluate how Upton performs this season and avoids injury. Having a strong 4th OF option like Marsh might prove vital. Make a big trade at the deadline or next offseason. We should make the playoffs this year, but we shouldn't go all in now. 2021 season is when our main window opens up. Here's what I got: 1: Open payroll to $190M 2: Sign Cole. 3: Sign one of Wheeler/Odorizzi 4: Sign Maldonado (great catching Cole this year and success with Ohtani in 2018) 5: Pursue Will Smith (relief pitcher).
  2. Arte must’ve fired Ausmus because he stated that playing time would be performance based and didn’t start Pujols much in the beginning of the season. We know Pujols is Arte’s favorite.
  3. I think $17M-$18M AAV seems about right. Maybe an extra year will help
  4. Would be one hell of a rotation. I love Maldonado catching them too since He's been catching Cole this year and Ohtani last year. Ultimately I'd love the depth like this: Cole,Wheeler, Ohtani, Hamels, Heaney, Canning. (1-9) Fletcher (3B), Adell, Trout, Ohtani, Upton, Simmons, Pujols, Maldonado, LaStella (2B).
  5. I understand your point. Eppler is on the last year of his contract so it makes sense to shake it up and win. The Angels right now can afford Cole and maybe Wheeler. That leaves Eppler with the question of trading prospects for a third SP or signing one? The way I see it is if he wants to acquire a third SP then he can do it if Arte opens payroll to around $190M. Assuming he signs Cole and Wheeler then he'd backload their contracts a bit. The option below allows Eppler to reshape the rotation with two frontline starters and a backup piece while still keeping Marsh and allowing for he and others to develop. This also allows Upton to figure it out and get healthy. The Angels still won't be built for the World Series in 2020. That's why they need to hang on to Marsh still. release Bour, Tropeano, Garcia: -$6.3M Trade Bedrosian: -$2.8M (if necessary) Gerrit Cole: 7yr $217M ($26, $27M, $30M, $32M, $34M, $34M, $34M) Zack Wheeler: 4yr $68M ($15M, $18M, $18M, $17M) Cole Hamels: 1yr $8.5M Martin Maldonado: 1yr $2.3M Total payroll: $190.7M ($193.5M with Bedrosian).
  6. I’d cry if we traded Marsh. Would love to see him, Trout and Adell rocking the outfield. I’d only trade him if the Angels plan on seriously contending for 2020, which they won’t. They should make the WC but shouldn’t be division/WS contenders till at least 2021. Let the farm take one more year of developing while we acquire two SP’s via FA. I know it’s easier to replace an outfielder (look at Goodwin), but trading Marsh just because we have Upton is a recipe for disaster. I don’t trust Adams quite yet to be better than Marsh in the future. Jordyn Adams needs to fill out more and work on seriously getting some arm strength. That’s why I think it’s best that we hold on to Marsh at least until the end of the 2020 season. This lets us see if Adams can be a breakout prospect this year and really start to shine. If he does, then put Marsh on the block. We have to be smart with these moves for serious contention in 2021-2025. That’s when Upton will be old and Marsh could be necessary.
  7. What if we went down to $71M for 4yr? I think i'm just at the point where we need to go after the big arms and no more spreading money around for guys like Cahill, Harvey and Allen. Give money to the guys that are proven to be good.
  8. Everyone keeps saying it'll be too expensive. We've got money to spend this year and it really won't be that hard to get at least a Cole and Wheeler. That should be the beginning of the list.
  9. With that said how about this. Payroll raised to $185, release Bour, Tropeano, Garcia: Saves $6.3M (payroll sits at $141.7) Gerrit Cole: $26M first year of $217M 7yr deal (backloaded) Zack Wheeler: $15M first year of $85M 5yr deal (slightly backloaded) Martin Maldonado: $2.3M Total payroll for 2020: $185M I know people won't like the addition of Maldonado cuz we need offense help. But hear me out... He caught Ohtani when he was pitching last year and he's been catching Gerrit Cole this year. He knows those guys and they pitched very well with him catching. Just teach Maldonado to bunt and we can put him at the 9 spot like a pitcher would be.
  10. They can afford Cole/Wheeler but i don't think they can also afford a guy like Grandal. You think they can?
  11. The day has finally come where Joe Maddon will be managing the Angels. One thing that really struck me were the words that Billy Eppler and even Joe Maddon had to say. Billy Eppler: "We are thrilled that Joe is coming back home... We believe Joe will be a great asset for our Club and look forward to him leading the team to another World Series Championship." Joe Mddon: "... I look forward to the opportunity to bring Angel fans their second championship." I know, everyone says they will be winning and blah blah blah. But for a GM to say "World Series Championship", seems very bold. Specially in Maddon's three year contract. Either i'm thinking about those words too much, or Eppler and Arte are about to finally make serious changes to make us a monster of a team within these three years. Good things might finally be heading our way
  12. Interesting idea. In my opinion, Marsh is too athletic with an incredible arm that it would be a waste to put him at first base. Hopefully Adams can fill out and get better. All good prospects
  13. Yes, Calhoun was kept out of this budget. The outfield would be thin for a bit. Eppler could find another waiver guy to fill in or even have Fletcher take LF if need be. As of right now Stassi catches. Unless they get Maldonado on like a $2.3M deal and trade Bedrosian away to stay around $190M. Do I really think they’d trade Upton for a guy who’s older and makes more money? No. Likely scenario is Marsh is traded before Upton is.
  14. @Second Base to your point: Here’s an idea For 2020 salaries... Assume payroll increases to $190M Current salary on books: $121M; Arbitration: $27M—-Current totals: $148M ($42M to spend) Release: Bour, Tropeano, Garcia; saves $6.3M —-Current Payroll: $141.7M ($48.3M to spend) Gerrit Cole: $217M / 7yr AAV: $31 (25, 27, 30, 32, 33, 35, 35) —-Current payroll: $166.7M ($23.3M to spend) Zack Wheeler: $85M / 5yr AAV: $17M (15, 17, 17, 17, 19) —-Current payroll: $181.7M ($8.3M to spend) Trade Upton (full contract swap): -$21M —-Current payroll: $160.7M acquire Price (full contract): $32M —-Current payroll: $192.7M Angels then could still find a way to get down to $190M by trading Bedrosian or by having Boston take $2M on Price. rotation: Cole, Price, Wheeler, Ohtani, Heaney, Canning. This allows Simmons to stay and Marsh to stay plus we have a completely new rotation. Don’t forget that Cozart/Simmons can come off books for 2021 adding back about $27.67 in room, then Pujols comes off in 2022; David Price in 2023. I don’t imagine Jo Adell being in AAA for too long. In fact, he could win a spot in ST so you can slot Adell in RF, Trout in CF and Goodwin in LF until Marsh is ready.
