  1. If the sale is approved before opening day then it's not his money they are using. I still think a new owner is already lineup up and has approved the payroll increase.
  2. My only thought is a decent sized trade is impending. Angels now have the depth to package deal someone like Rengifo for either a SS or pitcher. Even seeing them go after Contreras was.... interesting. If this is where the Angels stay then I'm not too bullish on our playoff chances. We might have a winning record, but still finish in 3rd place.
  3. The outfield situation would worry me if Ward was traded, but I'd be up for it. Ward has a bunch of value that could help net a good starter or SS. I still wish they could sign a guy like Eovaldi and then package Rengifo/Suarez up a SS, but that's just wishful thinking at this point. Not sure how much more the Angels want to spend. Their payroll is in new waters for us so it's hard to gauge at this point.
  4. Props to Arte or props to the new owner? I don't think anything would have changed if Arte wasn't selling the team. Someone must be telling Arte you can do what you want if the sale is hopeful to be finalized Opening Day. Even if it is Arte, i'm still not happy. Where was this 5 years ago????
  5. I don't remember who tweeted it, but I thought I read that they saw Vasgersian say on MLB Network that the Angels should get Drury. If that's the case then there's for sure an impending trade that would happen after that.
  6. Good point. I do agree the Angels are spending more and it's shocking, honestly. But in terms of talent, we're still a third place team in the division and as much as I love Perry's ability to swing good trades and start building a farm system, there's still a missing link to taking this team over the top. Maybe he's not done. Maybe we will be blown away by seeing Eovaldi, a bullpen arm and a trade for a solid SS to get us competitive. I don't want Minasian to be fired after this season, but i'd like to see a President of Baseball Ops to really handle bigger names should the Angels be interested in them.
  7. Here's to hoping the Angels sign Eovaldi and sign a good SS this week. I'm growing some concern that they might be doing what I thought was going to happen with the impending sale of the team: A GAP YEAR. It's interesting that the Angels were willing to spend big on someone like Contreras. Have to imagine they have interest on Eovaldi who should command roughly the same AAV. I wonder how Ohtani feels
  8. 100% think the same thing. I think the Angels will sign a free agent starter and bullpen guy and then flip a trade for a SS.
  9. Take Minaisan's comments about going over the tax to the bank. (within reason) Angels have roughy $20M to spend before hitting the tax. Sign Eovaldi 3yr/$45M ($15M AAV)(this market is crazy with extra years, bring AAV down) Sign one of Knebel: up to $7M AAV Trade package for someone like Hoerner, or someone who is controlled and cost-effective: est up to $6M AAV Total AAV: $28M Tax payroll: $240M Tax owed: $1.4M Numbers obviously could change, but adding 3 more guys to solidify multiple areas is likely better than getting just Swanson and a cheap bullpen arm.
  10. Just the thought of Velazquez on the bench makes me cringe
  11. Sign Eovaldi and a few bullpen arms and then trade for a young SS stud. someone like Hoerner, Reds players or someone else. Would take us at the tax or slightly over it, but I feel like the Angels would rather pay a small tax for acquiring 2-3 players rather than Swanson and likely leftover change.
  12. Angels could use a righty in the rotation, however. Ohtani Sandoval Eovaldi Anderson Detmers Suarez/Silseth/someone else That's pretty good
  13. I would, Only problem is I thought the Padres indicated no one is being traded. Unless he throws a fit to moving positions or the Padres are tired of him. But they need him.
  14. A $200k tax must look pretty scary to the second richest MLB owner worth over $11.5B.
  15. Looks like Arte is now in the $4B club before his impending sale of the Angels. At least his net worth is going up......
  16. At the end of the day, Perry needs to build a winner or Ohtani is out. period. Either he signs Swanson and trades for another top starter or they sign Rodon and trade for a shortstop, he needs to do something to set us up to win. Our farm really isn't that good. Aside from Quero, Bush, Neto it gets pretty thin. Angels still have a ways to go. Hopefully their technology and new faces they have added to help develop the players pans out, but it's still a major work in progress.
  17. The Mets became a great team because of an owner who's only priority is winning. Granted, he's worth a ridiculous amount, he's not afraid to do whatever it takes to win. And he doesn't have Trout/Ohtani. He's well over $70+M of the tax, will pay a Hefty tax atop of that and will still flip a big profit from this investment. That's the owner I want. Sure, you can sign others to fill Ohtani's spot, but that's an elite pitcher and a bat you'd immediately need to replace. Plus the Japanese market. The Angels won't do both in one offseason which is why Ohtani needs to stay. Plus, that's not something a new owner will want on his forehead for a name. Imagine Ohtani leaving after the first full season of new ownership? Yikes.
  18. Yeah, totally agree. Problem is we still haven't made the playoffs, Ohtani might be out and Trout's future could be in jeopardy. In the long run, Minasian is great. Short term-wise...... No results yet.
  19. Million dollar question (literally) is how healthy will Trout/Rendon be. Also was 2022 a fluke year for Ward / Sandoval ? Will Rengifo perform and what will Walsh / Fletcher do? To your question, I don't think a modest move makes us playoff contenders. Competing against the Mariners, Rays, Blue Jays, Orioles, White Sox and maybe even Rangers for a WC spot looks very difficult.
  20. Yep, I'm at 86. They're going to need at least 90 for playoffs.
  21. How do you think the Angels currently look if the season started today with the current roster? Do we make the playoffs?
