  1. Very true. I think at least we will have implication on their plans. Maybe Morosi or someone confirms they are in on these guys and being aggressive.
  2. I can't either based on history, but then again, he can spend stupid amounts of money and not have to worry about it next year. There's no way a potential buyer is going to say "you're spending $40M over the tax? Yeah, no thanks i'm out". It's a So-Cal team in the second largest sports market in America. The new owner can completely rebrand the Angels and build a brand new stadium and potentially have his own TV network. Arte needs to spend the damn money this year and then not worry about it. He has zero reasons as to why he can't blow the payroll out of the water. Leave with a bang and maybe we'll invite him to the World Series celebration parade.
  3. My prediction is simple. This week will be the time we get to see how the Angels plan to attack Ohtani and Arte's last season. If they sign a top SS or trade for one then then they are going for it. If the sign a mediocre SS then Ohtani is out.
  4. Does anyone have the scoop on what Rosenthal wrote today for the Athletic? I heard the Angels were mentioned but not sure on the details.
  5. Not to mention his incredible injury history. But hey, deGrom got paid.
  6. We can talk shit on the contract all we want, but at the end of the day it's a hell of a get for the Rangers. If he's healthy, it makes our division that much more tough to win in.
  7. Texas still has some holes to fill, but they are going to be a pretty good team in a year or two. Angels gotta recognize it.
  8. Goes to the bench or helps fetch another piece to give them depth elsewhere.
  9. They don't have the pieces to contend this year. Maybe in a few. But yes, to your point, if they sign a top SS then they'd likely love the idea of say a Swanson/Hoerner up the middle.
  10. Cubs are looking to add help in rotation, shortstop, center field, 1B, bullpen and backup catcher. Not sure if we have what it takes to pry Hoerner away. If only Adell's value didn't fall off a cliff. Then again, he's young. Some teams might value him a bit more.
  11. Turner is a perfect fit for the Angels. My only concern is east coast east coast east coast. Seems like he's for sure going there.
  12. I honestly wanted the Angels to take a change on him. I think a change of scenery can help him a lot. But after Renfroe it makes no sense to be in on any of those guys now.
  13. Chris Martin was very good for the Dodgers' bullpen last year.
  14. What fun is that for us? AW wants rumors of a possible Russian, Japanese and North Korean group looking to buy.
  15. Although it's pretty easy for more people to be an Adell than Trout.
  16. It's now December 1st. I kinda thought we'd at least have a solid list of who's bidding and who's a favorite by now before we head into the Winter Meetings. Maybe this will take much longer than we think.
  17. Totally agree with what you're saying. I agree Fletcher is bench/super utility. I guess what i was trying to say was having him in the 9th spot and starting 2b is much more palatable with a star SS. I'd like the defense if that's all he provided. Under those circumstances, of course. If the Angels think Rengifo/Fletcher is the future then i'm extremely concerned.
  18. I'll throw a curve into this. To me, Fletcher is a backup piece.... unless... Angels have an elite SS (FA or trade), then Fletcher becomes a solid option at 2B hitting in the 9 spot.
  19. Eppler likely tried to sell Ohtani on winning in Anaheim and it never panned out so Ohtani might want to stay as far away from him as possible.
  20. If you can't sign one of the top 4 or trade for a top SS then the answer is to keep Rengifo/Fletcher at that position and strengthen your rotation or bullpen.
  21. Our team might be better, but I honestly think Perry's decision about SS will be the deciding factor of making or missing the playoffs. Yes, it's expensive, but imagine a lineup of 1: Ward - LF 2: Correa - SS 3: Ohtani - DH 4: Trout - CF 5: Rendon - 3B 6: Walsh - 1B 7: Renfroe - RF 8: Fletcher - 2B 9: Stassi - C
  22. I feel ya. I wish the option isn't just to dump money at someone either. But the team doesn't have an everyday name at SS. We can all agree that Fletcher/Rengifo isn't that guy. Neto could be that guy, in a few years, but the negative side of that is we'd be hoping something clicks in a season that will likely determine if Ohtani stays or goes. If they trade for someone like Anderson or Adames, then by all means, that's amazing. But either way, this team desperately needs a bonafide SS to defensively/offensively carry this team. The Angels don't have the farm system to just slot someone at a position to make an immediate impact. Given their farm system and players like Trout and Ohtani, they're forced to spend.
  23. I'd take signing Correa over waiting for Neto or relying on Rengifo/Fletcher any day. Any one of the other 3 slot perfectly at 2B. Financials do concern me, but if the opportunity shows itself then the Angels shouldn't shy away.
