Yep, it’s a two way street…. If you want to get upset about a lack of “loyalty” from Ohtani, you should be equally upset that Arte refused to adequately support Ohtani during his tenure here by spending as much as he could and surpassing the tax

That’s quite the conundrum. How do you spend to go over the tax threshold and then have money you need to re-sign Ohtani?

  2. It means today what it meant yesterday. The Angels have and will always play second fiddle to the Dodgers. Everybody knows that. Arte knows it but he’s in no position to do anything about it. You can’t compete with that kind of money. If Mike Trout wanted to leave, he’d request a trade. He’s stated he wants to win and he wants it to be the Angels. Loyalty and trusting in your teammates and organization to do what it takes to build a winning team.

Looking at it OF is a concern. Adell big question mark and out of options. He needs to play every day not twice a week to be productive. Trout has been on IL so much last 3 years and if Ohtani leaves should DH 2 times a week. I wonder how his hand is after fracture swinging the bat. Is Trout hand fully healthy. Moniak did some nice things last season but needs to cut down on his K's hopefully he cannot do that. Ward another Question mark after being hit in face. His return to 2022 playing level would be huge help. Teoscar Hernandez if signed could he be a help? Many IF's on halos  going into 2024 if they hope to compete.

Moniak hasn’t really played a lot of baseball since 2020, Major Leagues or Minors. I’m sure that has slowed down his progress  to realizing his potential. Let see what he can do with a healthy, 500 AB season.

I’d move Sandoval for Burnes, but it’d have to be close to a 1:1 and that ain’t happening. Unless they threw in Yelich or Adames. Also not happening.

We don’t match up particularly well with the Brewers, unless we’re sending them pitching, and even then it’d likelier be for some of their ridiculous outfield depth. Maybe Adames. Maybe Devin Williams. Sandoval being able involved in a Burnes trade basically just opens another rotation spot they need to spend to fill.

It’s easier to find starters available to fill the 3-5 slots than a top of the rotation starter so if that were case I’d would welcome it.

What young talent do Angels have to get Burnes? So many other teams would have better players to offer. Maybe Silseth or Daniels can be the next Burnes given some time. Brewers will be in rebuild wanting good young players who are MLB ready. They are going to extend 19 year old and build a team around him.

That’s the thing, the Angels are not in the want to wait mode. Either one of the pitchers you mentioned or both in a package for Burnes might help get it done but they will probably have to include a couple more prospects. Maybe the Brewers would be willing to take Sandoval or Detmers to lessen the prospect load.

Young pitchers like Silseth and Daniels add these 2 with Canning, Detmers and Sandoval. Angel's please do not spend 100 or 150 or 200 mill on a pitcher

Minasian has stated that they want to win and will be aggressive this offseason. I don’t see how adding Daniel’s and Silseth qualifies as being aggressive and helps them win this year. This team needs top of rotation pitchers. Ohtani,Snell and trade for Corbin Burnes. Snell and Burnes lead the staff in 2024 then Ohtani, Snell in 2025. The Angels can extend Burnes(who grew up an Angels fan) or trade him at the deadline for pitching prospects. Would love to see a rotation in 2025 with Ohtani,Burnes and Snell at the front.

The Padres are cutting payroll and the Dodgers aren’t signing everyone. How many premium free agents have the Dodgers signed the last five years? 2?

I don’t know if the Padres are cutting costs or they’re not willing to meet Soto’s expected contract demands so by trading him, they save this year and give themselves room to make a splash this year and in the future. The Dodgers are the Dodgers. Always in on every top free agent if there is a need and have boat loads of money.

This is why I'm actually a fan of the idea of pursuing someone like Quintana as one option to fill out our rotation.  He's coming off a down year, but he'll likely require a max of a 2 year commitment, or more likely just one year, and he'll be only 32 years old at the start of the season.  The best teams tend to find undervalued players who are coming off down years and help them re-discover their form.  Quintana has incentive to sign just a one-year deal to re-establish his value and re-enter free agency in a better offseason (i.e., not this offseason).

Instead of buying high on someone like Bauer, who is coming off a career season, or trading for someone who just had their best season, perhaps it is wise to invest in someone who has an otherwise fairly strong pedigree but just had one down year.

I don't think Quintana is better than what the Angels have. He's had more than just one down year pitching for the Cubs. Chances are he's seen his better days.

On a somewhat related note, I think there's a 50/50 chance we end up drafting a catcher with our top overall pick.  Given we have literally no catching in the pipeline to speak of, and given how much we have been linked to catchers this offseason, I have to think that Minasian will want a catcher he can groom and develop as his top overall pick, even before a SP prospect.

I hope not. I'd rather have more than half the Angel's top 10 prospects be pitchers. Every year teams are looking for pitching. Having a shit ton of pitching prospects in the minors can get you anything. Even a top catching prospect.
