ok, so I'm the opposing GM...
"wwewant Marsh or it's no deal"
your move.
lol ok...I've changed my mind. I'm trading Marsh to the Tigers for Boyd then flipping Boyd along with Thaiss and Jahmai Jones to the Mets for Syndergaard and Dominic Smith

I'm hoping whomever the Angels get , they were worth the wait.

Ok, what are you willing to give up for 1-year of their production?
For a 1 year rental not much but if allowed a window to negotiate an extension and come to terms then any prospect not named Adell or Marsh.
-
Any of those except Arrietta .
-
How about trading for a starter who is on the last year of his contract and using that money to extend him?

When Maddon talked about finding pitching he mentioned guys who can go out and give you innings. Work horses. Robbie Ray is not that guy.
Wow that means they would have to be good and not getting pulled after two innings of shit.

Anyone willing to take a chance on Taijuan Walker? He should be cheap coming back from TJ surgery.
I'd hope they'd at least kick the tires but teams must have their reasons for not signing him already.

Who cares. It’s over. They signed Cole. We got Rendon. Move on.

I don't get the hostility. Yes the Yankees today are much better than the Angels today. But that doesn't mean it'll continue to be that way. Angels could have a bright future if Eppler keeps making wise decisions and puts this team in a position to be better. Yankees won a lot more games last year than the Angels that's not an opinion, it's fact. Just be better tomorrow than you were yesterday Angels. Don't worry about every other team just worry about the Angels getting better we should be good to go.
Because it's the Yankees.

I truly hope Gerrit Cole finds nothing but misery on and off the field in that shithole they call New York City.
-
I read Cole and Trevor Bauer don't really get along so may I suggest the Angels trade for Bauer and give Cole the fucking finger.

Looks like he went undrafted out of college and has been kicking around independent ball and the Mexican League. What a random signing (and, yes, I realize teams make deals like this all the time and it's not a big deal, blah blah blah...It's still a random one. )
Yup part of the Martinez family. Pedro and Dennis are soon to follow...lol

Fuck it.
Arte, walk in there and drop your dick on the table while Eppler offers him 8/280.
Pop that Viagra first that'll show them he really means business.

Definitely very cryptic tweets. I think if they had really made a deal, Gammons would have written it more clearly and stronger, and it would have been followed up by a lot of other people.
I am not sure what he means.
When deciphered, it has the zip-code for the stadium he'll call home ...92806

Where’d you get 8.82? I saw 12.7.
“The combined state and local income tax rate in New York City is 12.7 percent for people who make about $1 million or more. That’s less than California’s 13.3 percent state income tax rate, but more than the rates in the other states.“
Off the internet but wow a lot closer then what I posted.

Me sense is he wants to play on the angels but he's fine with using the Yankees to make the angels pay as much as possible
Haven't seen anybody post about the 13.3 percent income tax in California. Does anybody think it will affect his decision? I know New York's tax is 8.82 so not too much of a difference

So Peter Gammons is saying that the Yankees and Gerrit Cole have a deal in place? The Angels and Dodgers will learn of this deal soon?

They can afford both Cole and Strasburg and still be under the tax. The tax is based off of AAV not actual payroll.
Don't think with the Yankees involved that they could keep their AAV down. Yankees are going to drive up the price of those two.

If the Angels can pull another year where Arte just says F*** it and goes all in....
Current Angels' payroll sits at around $150.4M.
If Arte has a screw it moment and invests heavily into pitching while back loading contracts then he could, in theory, afford both Cole and Strasburg.Let's say that he gets Cole and Strasburg and is able to have their first year at around $28 and Strasburg at around $25M. That would total payroll to around $203.4M. Obviously, that would be WAY more than he's ever spent, but it'd still be less on the AAV side and given he seems like he's in win now mode I wonder if this makes sense. Adding both of those players combined with Ohtani, Canning, Heaney and Bundy will easily make the best rotation in baseball.
With $27.67 coming off the books in 2021, $30M in 2022 and $28M in 2023, this might finally be what Arte needs to go in "win now" mode and push the team over the edge.
If we add the WAR numbers by what the rotation could look like it would add roughly 20 WAR.
I know it's a pipe dream, but i'm hoping Arte just goes all in on the pitching side. All of our top prospects (Adell, Marsh, Rengifo, Thaiss, Jackson) replace the money coming off the books within the next few years. Now is the time for Arte to invest his money into the rotation.
If they were to go all in and sign Cole and Stras then the Angels would probably look for ways to start cutting payroll to get as close or under the luxury tax threshold without hurting the team too much. Trading Heaney and Bedrosian and their projected combined $8 million salary would be a start.
-
If they want to be instant playoff contenders then it's Cole and Strasburg. More likely though it's Cole or Strasburg and another trade for a starter.
An Alternate Plan? More Offense? Castellanos, Contreras? Both?

Hey Jahmai Jones is still one hell of a prospect. He's the same age as Brandon Marsh and had a very good AFL. Everybody has a hard on for Marsh after his good showing in the AFL but not Jones. Why?
