He’s going to get more money elsewhere

Just when I thought the idiocy well couldn't get any deeper,  you grab a shovel.

Harper sucks ass?  Haha. Ok. He’s a hall of fame player. Soto is a 160 OPS+ in his career at 23.  He’s a generational talent. 

He’s a generational talent. He isn’t a free agent for two plus years.  He’s getting well over $400 million. 

He’s going to get $50Ish million his next two years in arbitration. Then he will be a 26 year old free agent. He will get $425-500 million for 10-14 years. 

I mean guys are getting $35-40 million these days and they are offering $29 million a year for maybe the best offensive player in the game at age 23.  Oh and it’s backloaded with money deferred. It’s a helluva lot of money but not surprising he is turning it down. 

Many were much more encouraged about Marsh’s future at the end of last year.  I really wasn’t.  I questioned whether Marsh’s trade value had gone down because he showed no promise at all in the power category, and I was torched over that.
I still stand by this concern, especially as it relates to trade value.  I don’t think teams have nearly the interest in aggressively pursuing a young outfielder if they don’t have some obvious pop.
That doesn’t mean you can’t be a good major league outfielder without big power.  The point was, if another team is going to give up some legit talent in the deal, they are going to pursue the guy with obvious power over the guy they have to squint to imagine it.
Given what we have seen this year, I have to believe Marsh’s trade value has eroded.
Yes, I completely regret the Angels not trading Marsh for Meyers.  100%.
