I think Eppy is going to continue looking at trades for Hernandez and Gordon and if it's not going to happen he'll turn to free agency in Cozart or Walker.

I really hope we call the Phillies bluff. Sounds like their price point is through the roof. Once they realize all the options we have for second. The Phillies will realize we don’t “need him” and they will lower their price point. Even tho we all know we “want him.”

Perosnally hes the guy I want most this year other then Ohtani. He fits the two biggest needs in one. Heck even three.

Hits from the left side (switch), lead off guy, and second base. And yes, I know all of these things are well known. I’m excited for the next coming weeks.

It's seems 2nd base is never part of the equation in all of the off season talk. It is the one position they really do not have anyone to play and yet talk keeps revolving around first and third.

We honestly don’t know what the Angels are up to. Nobody does, and that’s what makes it so intriguing. Eppler keeps everything quiet, and the only thing we know is that we are in on Ohtani. Once we know what happens there the dominos will start falling...

  3. Lots being discussed about how unfit we are for Ohtani from a hitting perspective. But what many people are failing to realize in my opinion is what we can give him from a pitching perspective. Yes, he is going to be the face of a lot of things, but what the Halos can give him is what a lot of other teams can’t,  and that is Ace status. Ohtani can become the face of our rotation right off the get go, and hopefully for many years to come.

Jose Reyes would mean the Halos would have a platoon type situation for 2B/ 3B --- is that what we want?

Sometimes platoons work -- more often they don't.

Reyes is not the all around player he once was - he's probably lost a step or two in speed which is a real performance issue for speedster players like Reyes. Live by the wheels, and deteriorate by the wheels........

where did Reyes wind up last year? Colorado? Coors Field -- I have to check to see.......he did ok as a part time guy, spent some time on the DL.

Depending on what the Halos would pay for him -- I could see him filling that Mark McLemore, Chone Figgins type role being versatile and while not a starter per se - getting 300 ABs or so and helping the team.........what is Reyes these days ? 35/36 years old?   When he first came up (with the Mets?) he was quite the ballplayer -- even had some decent power in addition to speed, hit for an average, stole bases and was better than average with the glove at 2B (more so than 3B).

Sounds like the cheap option to me. I wouldn’t mind having a platoon at one position. Preferably in my preference 1st with Cron and Luis. But in saying that I have read many different things, and this team can go in many different directions.. we will see.

All great points.  For the right player, I am not averse to pursuing a large deal.

With Stanton though, we already have two significant right handed power hitters in our lineup (Trout, Upton).  If we really wanted to commit ourselves to a long-term deal, we might as well wait until next offseason and go all-in with Harper, who would fit between Trout and Upton perfectly in the lineup.

I wouldn’t do it for all the reasons I already stated about long-term contracts, but if I were to pick one player who I would opt for, it’d be Harper over Stanton because I feel he is a better fit given the current team we have.

Can anyone see this as even a potential possibility with getting Harper?? Our squad would be super flawed but we would have the best outfield since the 61’ Yankees.

  6. Yea, Arte does really “care” about the franchise. Yes, his decisions don’t always pan out. But I was one of the ones jumping for joy when those signings were announced. Albert’s deal was one of the best days of my life.... The only real downer I have with Arte is removing Anaheim from the teams name.... No matter what financial benefits it has, I really wish this team was the ANAHEIM ANGELS. Hopefully we can keep the team in the city of Anaheim for the very long future.

When did I say 2nd baseman? I'm talking generalities. Guys who can hit 30+ homeruns don't come around every day. Then to find one at a position of need and isn't 35+ years old...those are the guys you give big contracts to. What is the difference in getting 3 guys who make 5 million but can't play for shit vs 1 guy who makes 15 that can contribute? Give me the guy who can get it done 100 times out of 100. Sure if you want to allocate your money to different positions that's one thing but don't shop at the 99 cent store hoping to get your Gucci bag.

This seems to be the general consensus on this forum. We seem to want guys that can’t play that are cheap, over guys that can play that will cost some money. This is my opinion but I want to win, and a Moose, and or Santana might do this for us. You don’t see the Yankees, Cubs, Dodgers, or Red Sox picking up reclamation products. Why should we?

Ok, So the Angels aren't signing Manny Machado or Josh Donaldson in a year. Those guys are going to cost what Trout and Pujols do.

Moustakas is the top free agent at 3B this offseason.

I'd like to see them try to address 3B this offseason instead of having a virtual black hole there along with one at 2B.

We need offense, Moustakas will provide it, and may have a great year with a solid offensive team around him. And Kauffman isn't exactly a homer prone stadium, like Arizona or Colorado or Texas. More importantly, I think this may push Pujols to 5th or 6th, depending on what they do at 1st base. With Moustakas and Cozart or another leadoff friendly 2B option, the lineup would look much more complete.

Upton was a good first step, but I want two more solid bats preferably at 2nd and 3rd. And If they can get a solid bat at 1st too, I'm all for it.

It’s almost like people fault Arte for spending money, and fault him if he doesn’t. Lose, Lose situation here.. Moose would be a great addition to the ball club, that solidifies the middle of our lineup, and the gaping hole we had at 3rd for 10+ years, for a fraction of the price of a Machado or Arenado.

If you think we need an upgrade at catcher you are fucking delusional.  Just because you don’t value defense, unless it is being used as criticism against Upton, doesn’t mean it isn’t important.

I agee with this statement... but I wouldn’t mind a better back up option... maybe Perez fills that role this year tho.

Moustakas is having a career year. Walker has had injury issues the last 2 years, and lynns FIP is ugly this year. Im not saying dont sign any of them. And id be happy to see new talent brought in. But none of those guys strike me as difference makers. Moustakas maybe, but again, im not sure how real this year of his is.

As far as all being better than what we have....thats saying nothing, because we have shit at the positions you listed. Maybin was better in LF than weve had the last 3 years. Doesnt mean he was the solution.

But how do you get to the solution??
