  1. It would be the Angels throwing in cash. A lot of it. Probably $40 M.
  2. He did have the highest paid manager in baseball for a decade, but sure go ahead and think this.
  3. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2023/10/phil-nevin-will-not-return-as-angels-manager.html
  4. They had depth in their minors that came up to compete. After the Slump in August, the Angels started to bring everyone up so some of these "60 day Injuries" wouldn't normally have been but they needed a spot on the 40 to bring up some of these kids. Plus they made major trades and then let all those guys go (and more)...the injuries look bad, but it's really on par with others.
  5. I want a baseball guy running the whole show. Not just a GM who has to answer to several folks, like Carpino or Kuhl or Moreno. The Owner needs to take a step back, and let a baseball guy run everything. If you think that's Perry, sure, but I don't.
  6. Maybe the case can be made that the injuries wrecked this team, but honestly, the Rangers had major injuries, the Astros did as well, and they both made the playoffs. The Dodgers used 39 pitchers. 61 total players, and they won their division. The Angels need to improve the periphery of the club, in regards to nutrition, training staff, etc. They need a new Baseball guy in charge of everything, and let Moreno fade to the back like he wants. If he's not gonna sell.
  7. And I would put Scioscia #1, Mauch #2, Fregosi #3, and then probably Rigney for longevity. For the worst managers it's a lot longer list, But Ausmus and Nevin would be in the top 5 worst managers.
  8. I was -18 years old in 1961. But Rigney didn't top 86 wins. He didn't make the postseason, and never would've even with divisional alignment. He might be your favorite manager and that's fine, but C'mon. Scioscia was the best manager this club has ever had.
  9. I don't know a job that you can fail this badly for three years and expect to be back. Stoneman took over a team and won the World Series in year 2. So it can be done. The farm / scouting may have been better in the 90's but the team very much operated as a mid market under Autry and Disney...they didn't spend the way Arte has on payroll. What they need is a President of Baseball Ops, and a new GM, someone entrusted to run the entire operations department and keep Carpino and Kuhl out of the media, and keep Arte out of spending, etc. They need to redo the scouting departments, embrace technology and analytics (but keep out of in game decisions, the divide needs to be clear). They need to emulate the Dodgers front office and work to build the whole organization back into a consistent winner.
  10. He's the best manager in club history. No debate. Mauch is a good 2nd place. Rigney is not even 3rd.
  11. Never claimed I was! I just had the displeasure of watching Nevin attempt to manage, but I honestly think almost anyone could've done better.
  12. What, specifically has shown you he is "a guy you can win with" He's 17 games under .500 and was 14 under last year. He's not a good manager.
  13. You think he was a huge part of the problem? Without hearing/reading his side of things? Maddon had a ton of injuries too, but his record is a lot closer to .500 than Nevin or Ausmus. And he as a career .532 record as a manager even with the Angels Stints and some bad Rays teams.
  14. After reading Maddon's book, the allegations of interference from Perry are clear and fundamentally wrong. I suggest you check it out.
  15. Well according to you, its ridiculous to use win / loss too. I also excluded the majority of minor league moves and call ups for the fringes of the roster. This is just major league moves to fill out the 26 man.
  16. 15 good moves. Some involved the same player (Iglesias). He made 54 other acquisitions or trades, and the other 30 some odd players have been Meh or garbage. SO...
  17. Who had a better stint, Nevin or Doug Radar?
  18. I've come up with 54 major league moves in three seasons. There are a few good minor league ones included here as well, but overall I didn't include them if they didn't work out. Here's how I rank them 7 Excellent Moves, 8 Good Moves, 13 Bad Moves, and 26 Meh Moves. so 15-54 is not a great success rate. Even if you move a few of the meh into the good category, you don't end up with a 50% success rate.
  19. Getting Iglesias, if that's what you meant, counts. So...ok 5.
  20. Ok on Drury, that's 3. Estevez has been bad in the second half, but it's not a high dollar move so thats 4. Urhsela, Lorenzen and Syndergaard are meh. Mediocre moves that didn't bring success. Iglesias trade was one of the worst trades I've ever seen. So no. And don't give me the free up dollar bullshit. They did that because he wanted to reduce payroll for the team to be more palatable for a new owner. But they got nothing back from one of the deepest, most well run organizations in baseball. They could've asked for some low level minor leaguers, and they didn't even get that. They got Tucker I can't pitch Davidson and Jesse Chavez for one of the best closers in the game.
  21. Hiring a baseball mind to run the organization like the Dodgers did with Stan Kasten is the benefit. Arte should also probably sell or at least give up the controlling interest in the team. But I don't think Arte Is the problem, yes he interferes, and yes he doesn't spend money on some weird things, but it's the yes men, and the lack of a sufficient structure, which is problematic.
  22. Again, Carpino for the Scandals and Injuries. And I posted about this a few months back. Name 5 successful Major League Trades, Free Agent Signings, or Waiver Claims. 1) O'Hoppe trade 2) Moniak trade 3) Matt Moore Signing 4) ? 5) ?
  23. It's more than 45 days, and yeah, they called him up with 45 days left. Also, I always thought it was plate appearances not AB's. But they must've changed it. https://www.mlb.com/glossary/rules/rookie-eligibility# Doesn't matter though, He wont win the rookie of the year unless he puts on some muscle and starts getting more power. And He wont be a Super Two in regards to arbitration as 45 days wont put him close to that.
  24. Injuries is why I say fire Carpino. They need a guy to build a successful major league organization, and that includes better training staff, better nutritionists, and better equipment from the lowest minor league club to the big club. Some injuries are freak injuries like Trout's Hamate or when he broke his finger sliding. But some are because of poor diet, poor nutrition, poor prep and poor weight room....And CJ Wilson was a malcontent in a lot of ways, but the thing about Albert's treadmill..c'mon man.
