  1. Ah. "neither has he been above average" Weird phrasing, but yeah ok. I was wrong...but the fact remains, he's significantly below average.
  2. @mmc You can facepalm all you want. I like results and results matter. Nevin hasn't had the results, and the organization has scandal after scandal, leads the league in injuries, and can't win. They need a major overhaul, and I can't understand how you don't think so. Minasian has been objectively terrible evaluating free agents and making trades. He's like 4-34 in successful major league moves. I get that he's got a good eye for the young talent in the draft, and so maybe he's a good scout or has good scouts, or would be a good scouting director. But he's not a good GM...
  3. Above Average? They won 70 games so far this year, and he was 46-60 last year. .451 season this year so far, and .434 last year. That's not above average.
  4. As they should for Minasian, and Tam, and heck Carpino. This organization needs a major overhaul.
  5. I all but guarantee he is gone at the end of his contract, unless they somehow field a winner in 2024. Phil will most likely be the fall guy.
  6. Diaz is just the 11th Angel to Start this year, 10 was Rosenberg earlier this week. Angels have had 25 starts of Sandoval, 25 of Detmers, 23 of Anderson and 23 of Ohtani, plus 18 from Canning. Silseth (7), Suarez (6), Giolito (6), Barria (6) and now Rosenberg and Davidson round out the starters this year.
  7. Moustakas also slumped lately, but the whole team has. I wouldn't think either will cost much and there aren't a lot of free agent infielders of interest... First base: Joey Votto (club option), Rhys Hoskins, Max Muncy (club option), Josh Bell (opt-out), Brandon Belt, C.J. Cron, Eric Hosmer Second base: Whit Merrifield (mutual option), Jorge Polanco (club option), Adam Frazier, Jon Berti (club option), Kolten Wong, Jonathan Schoop Third base: Matt Chapman, Justin Turner (opt-out), Josh Donaldson (mutual option), Eduardo Escobar (club option), Evan Longoria, Brian Anderson, Gio Urshela, Joey Wendle Shortstop: Tim Anderson (club option), Javier Báez (opt-out), Elvis Andrus, Brandon Crawford, Amed Rosario, Paul DeJong (club option), Isiah Kiner-Falefa, Adalberto Mondesi
  8. Ok, good points. I just want another backup infielder, maybe that's Fletcher, but preferably one with Pop. Urshela had good numbers in 2022 with the Twins. They need one or two infielders to go along with Rengifo (Whom I never like, but he's been hitting well lately) on the bench, behind Drury, Schanuel, Neto and Rendon.
  9. 1) New GM & Manager. New President of Baseball Ops. 2) Re-Sign Ohtani if you can. He's the most dynamic player in baseball, and you need him. I assume you are going to try to keep his AAV at $42-$48. Ok. 3) Re-Sign Moustakas and Urshela. Neither will cost that much. $12-15M for the pair. 4) Sign Blake Snell. This is your big ticket pitching signing, pay him $160/5. $32M 5) Sign 2 BP arms, like Lopez and Moore. You might be able to squeeze this in under the CBT, but if you can't then you get only one of Moustakas and Urshela. You're living with this next iteration of the team for the next three years, so...better make it work. As far as Arbitration eligible guys, they have a few, but not more than say $20M AAV and I'd fully expect the new GM to cut ties (via Trade or NONTender) with a lot of the middling guys that will be up for arbitration, like Quijada and Herget and even Suarez. 2024 Active Competitive Balance Tax Totals Note: Tax figures based on payroll data only. 10. I am one of the most positive members on this board. I just hate Nevin, I think the choice to fire Maddon doomed the Angels, and the fact that they didn't even look for a new manager in the offseason is what cost them this year. In my opinion, he's a puppet. Maddon said Minasian and Tam were interfering in game. There is evidence of this in the fact that they replaced Maddon's bench coach with a guy from the front office.... He may have been bitter over the firing, but there was tension for a while starting here.... You can choose to see things in a different way, to me, this is not Nevin's choice. He can say it is, but it's not. He's not under contract for 2024, and I highly doubt he will be back.
  11. Why do I not know anything and you seem to know everything? Even when you have been clearly wrong. On almost every point. For years. We disagree. I am not insulting you, I just disagree. Nevin is a terrible, terrible manager. The worst manager I've seen for quite some time. Ausmus was almost as bad, IMHO.
  12. How do we know they were friends? Nevin was on one team with these guys in 1998, and didn't last the year.
  13. You have no evidence or proof of this. To Me it looks like an indictment and that the veterans are being used to evaluate current players and coaches. And maybe even the analytics folks.
  14. Oh, so it's his idea to have guys evaluating and helping him coach? He's hoping they bring him back, but this is an indictment.
  15. This current staff is going to be out of a job in three plus weeks.
  16. I haven't forgtten. It's one reason why Minasian is gonna go after the season. People yell at me when I bring up Bullpen Matrix, but after reading Maddon's book....Maddon has always seemed honest. The same bullpen problems plague Nevin that plagued Maddon. Everyone wants Wise's head, but no one believes that Tam and Minasian are having major input on in game pitching decisions. Analytics do work, if they're used properly. They are not being used properly with the Angels. It's a fundamental system flaw. Perry and Phil are both gone. As is Tam, Montgomery, and a few other coaches. Maybe even Carpino as well... (retire). and if Arte sells, I wouldn't be surprised. Someone like Theo Epstein is going to be brought in to right the ship. Look at what Dombrowski did in Philly.... It's what they need.
  17. So they have 5 spots that just opened on the 40... Cron is also a free agent, and will likely be gone. So that's 6 guys that need spots. But... Quijada and Warren are likely out for the majority of 2024, as well. Don't know if they retain their 40 man spots. Or at least Warren will not. Stassi may get waived or he may be retiring, if he missed an entire season due to personal or family problems, they may simply come to a settlement, too. C-Rod looks like he isn't coming back, so his 40-man spot is likely up. Someone may want to take a flyer, but I bet Angels are done with him. Or at least will try to clear him from the 40-man...Barria is arb eligible, he may be non-tendered. Herget also will be non-tendered. Walsh is already off the roster, but he will not be tendered either. Davis Daniel may also be waived. Adell and Ward will certainly both be back. Bachman & Joyce as well. Rendon will be back. Suarez as well-- possibly.
  18. You can Blame Arte, I'll blame Perry. It's fine to have different opinions. Obviously Arte is a bit of a problematic owner, but as I said earlier I think the Sale goes through in the offseason, especially if Ohtani goes elsewhere.
