Sure. But you get it right?  OBP driven by HBP isn’t sustainable.

Silseth looks like that high octane back end bullpen piece we really need.

if he can harness the control and throw more strikes that would be a huge boost.

He looks like Fletcher up there with the bat. Zero power in his swing and he’s the clean up hitter.

Hard to argue when they have been scoring really well, but it might be time to consider dropping Ward to 4th, Neto to lead off, and Rendon to 6th.

You guys get so triggered over a simple suggestion that I said “start to consider” and “the angels are scoring right now” so not something to worry about.

god you guys are such dicks for no reason. I apologize for talking baseball on a baseball forum. You, Stradling, and Lou have some superiority complex by being completes assholes for zero reason, you guys literally tear apart people for having BASEBALL discussions on a BASEBALL forum.

I get that Rendon is getting on base but is it time to move him down in the lineup yet? He’s slugging under .300…

Sandoval is pitching the game the Angels needed out of a starter.

This has been a nice game so far. If Sandy can finish off the 7th and even start the 8th to minimize the use of the bullpen it would be great.

2 errors in 13 games isn't very good.

Just got home from the game.

gotta say it felt like one of those classic angels vs A’s games where the angels go up 4-0 early and let the A’s chip away at their lead all game and then lose 5-4.

glad it ended up differently!! Leave Loup in the basement and lock it

haven’t been to a game in a few years and I gotta say, angels stadium is a blast. Sure there are newer stadiums with cool, modern features but I still love what we got and it’s hard to beat watching the Angels at home.

Maddon sounds like a bitter dick who is trying to sound relevant to me, but I admittedly have not liked him for a long time.

TroutField reacted to AngelsFaninGA in OC Register: Angels sticking with José Suarez for his next start, despite his 9.26 ERA
For all the talk about how this front office is making more "tough" decisions, the reality is that they're just picking off low hanging fruit like with Fletcher. Zero reason why Suarez should get another start this year. Likewise, Loup should really be off the roster entirely.

Barria maybe the most under appreciated pitcher the Angels history.
He had a War of .2 entering  and 123 era+ last night's game.  Even after last night's meltdown he is still +.1 War and has ERA + of 114.
Four of his 6 years he has had an ERA + of over 100.  A 5th year he was at 97. He currently has a career WAR of 6.6.
He is not a great pitcher but he certainly doesn't suck.  They need to keep him in his role.

Actually a good team still probably loses 1, maybe 2 of those even, on that homestand. 5-2 is still a .714 winning percentage, which would easily be best in baseball behind Tampa.
I know there’s more to it than that, but, a 5-2 homestand here is perfectly reasonable.
Choking those three games as hard as they did - last night, the KC game, and Toronto - and losing 3/4 to a pretty mediocre Boston team - are really the biggest blights on the year so far, but typical for any team. Maybe ours are just concentrated right now.

Been thinking the same. The odds are he's gone next year anyway. We may as well destroy him like a car we know is getting repossessed.

My general gripe with the matrix isn't that relievers should be pitching 3 out of 4 days. As you showed, that's an unrealistic expectation. And I'm not expecting that.

I just think that there should be occasional exceptions. Teams don't come back from a 7-2 deficit that often. I think using your closer for 3 of 4 days in that spot should be acceptable.

It goes back to the whole idea that there needs to be a balance, and that it can't be 100% analytics/data or 100% eye-test/feel/or whatever you want to call it.

There is nothing wrong with the bullpen matrix or the lack of flexibility. The problem is the bullpen sucks ass.
If you look at last nights game and say the problem was that only our shitty relievers were available then you are missing the forest for the trees.

Neto puts up an impressive at-bat more often than not. He's getting more comfortable at the plate and will only get better. Very exciting.
