I appreciate Trout coming out and putting a little heat on Arte/Carpino.

If he didn’t have baseball he doesn’t have the life he has now. Be grateful for what has afforded you the means to be where you are. Come out with your book after your career about how much you hated it. For now you signed up for this. Don’t like it then walk away…

As has been mentioned, sure it makes sense on personal level to miss your family while you’re at work… Does he not have a home in so cal with his family, dude is acting like he’s deployed in Iraq for 9 months out of the year. In reality he spends, what 9-10 hours a day at the ballpark? Probably arrives at 1-2pm for a 7pm game that’s over at 10…. family is welcome to go to work and watch you for 3-4 hours of that work day, unlike most professions. And you’re being paid an exorbitant amount of money, more money in 1 year than most Americans will se in their lifetime. “Make a living” you’re making 35 million, dummy. You could walk away right now and be set for life, are we supposed to feel bad for you?

you signed the contract, either retire and let someone more deserving and appreciative of the money and roster spot take over, or get on the field and be the best damn baseball player you can…

I don’t not care about my job and the job I’m doing each day because I wanna be at home teaching my kid how to ride a bike. Lazy, entitled mentality to have.

Doesn't matter. The Angels paid him a shit ton of money and, results wise, he has failed miserably.
You sound like Albert Pujols telling reporters to look at his career numbers.

I know this might be hard for you to understand, but Rendon was always that guy and he was one of the best 3B over the last decade prior to coming to Anaheim. Literally nothing changed for him aside from him getting injured constantly. Nothing. But sure, go off with your superficial narrative. It's par for the course for you.

Rendon doesn't give a F___. And you know what? HE'S GOT IT ABSOLUTELY RIGHT.
it's more important to be a "good man" than to be a good baseball player.
Any functioning man that takes his family to church and has a relationship with Christ would tell you the same thing. It's not about your vocation, but your avocation.
I love my job. I'm passionate about it and I'm good at it. But it's only a job. My faith and my family are the priority. I'm just grateful I get to do both.

If Adell somehow turned into a 40 homer, 1.000+ OPS guy to replace the production we will miss from Ohtani, I’d regain a little bit of faith in the baseball gods.

Bullpen depth. Why would you not be okay with this the way the Angels have built bullpens the past 10-15 years lol

This whole doom and gloom thing is a joke. A simplified generalization. Yeah, the Angels lost Ohtani and Trout and Rendon can’t stay on the field, but the Angels core is in better shape now than it has been in a long time. Let them percolate for a year and they’ll be a nice surprise sooner rather than later.

And it should also be emphasized it was the first time in Ohtani's time with the Halos where they actually had at least a somewhat viable shot (even if minimal) at the playoffs at the deadline, and that is why they show up and play games.
I've said elsewhere, it was a bad decision to keep him from a long-term/baseball ops sense, but the world doesn't exist solely in that vacuum. They had their best shot in years, and in Ohtani's entire Angel tenure, to try and accomplish what they'd been trying to do. Why not go for it? It was the first time that door was open to them - even if just a crack - but it's the whole point of why they've played these games. And had it worked, even if the team fell short of a WS, or even the playoffs and they had just played competitive ball up until the end of the year, or even just the WC game, it would've looked bold and perhaps even brilliant, and would have fit a thrilling narrative for fans and pundits alike.
It didn't work out. It sucks. Hindsight. All that. Losing Ohtani for nothing* also does not exist in a vacuum. 29 other teams 'lost' out on Ohtani too. The WS winner has never had Ohtani. It's Perry's job to build a winning team, Ohtani or not, just like almost every other GM. It can be done.

    * given Perry's track record with drafting in the first few picks, whoever they 'get' for Ohtani this summer could be contributing to the team in '25, which probably isn't really that far-off from what we would've gotten in a trade, to be honest. Most other similar deadline deals for stars have hardly yielded a clutch of prospect wins.

Even in hindsight, I still vote for go for it and try to keep him, knowing the downside is where we sit today.
The opposite hindsight of “we were only a 1/2 game out and all we had to do was improve a little to make the playoffs, and that would really help Ohtani want to stay and instead we chickened out, punted and traded away a legend” would have been cemented as the crowning moment for why it is terrible to be an Angel fan.

TroutField reacted to totdprods in Arte reveals he is not planning to sell, budget will be lowered, and no update on stadium talks with Anaheim in interview
I think Blum is actually a pretty good reporter, and I appreciate how critical he's been in Arte and the org overall. He has dogged them on things that they deservedly need to answer to. He has a good pulse on the fans, both casual and diehard, and he's written some great pieces on players and experiences that usually fall by the wayside.

But I also think there's a little Icarus flying too close to the sun aspect here. He's become a little too focused in trying to land some interview to ask the tough questions that I feel it's blinding him a little bit more than he realizes. It's turning into a perpetuating cycle, especially with Rendon and Arte.

This is like being in a nightmare where you scream for help, but no sound comes out. Throw punches, but no impact. Run, but go nowhere.
I am blown away that a beautiful baseball organization with so much potential over the past 2-3 decades has become such an absolute travesty.
Trout you are my man, but get out of here as soon as you can, and go win some rings. You deserve so much better.

I have very often defended Moreno against lots of knee-jerk criticisms.  I don’t think he has been a terrible owner forever.  To me, he was doing fine for some time historically.
But his time has passed and he is no longer somebody I want to continue owning the team.  I am very disappointed that he is now saying he is here for the foreseeable future.
I am most puzzled by his current inability to craft and deliver a message/vision for the team that fans paying attention can digest and accept.
If he must stay as owner, I would at least hope he would be self-aware enough to know that he needs to display something to be significantly different going forward.
Instead we basically get “I’m still here and not going anywhere for more of the same.”
    Fuck.

I pretty much only go now when we just want to have something to do together as a family.  Gone are the days when I would go to the game because I specifically want to see the Angels play in person.
Ohtani was an energizing factor though, as my kids would be more interested in going if Ohtani was pitching. . .
I doubt I am my going to increase my kids interest in going to the game by telling them that Tyler Anderson is pitching tonight.  Maybe I should try, “Hey you guys wanna go see the team that Moreno is saving an additional $40m in payroll on this year?”
That will probably fire them up.

I'll still watch most games if I'm free, but won't be going to any games in-person. Haven't been in...5 years, I think? I used to go to every Sunday home game, plus 10 or so other ones scattered throughout the season. Zero desire to do that these days.
