    Those who sat outside should be charged, lose their job and their pension but I know pension rules vary by state. Probably a sacrificial lamb or two and paid leave for others but that's me being jaded and expecting the good old boys club to circle the wagons.

    Your reason assumed the home owner may have had a high capacity magazine weapon. Even setting that aside your logic is that anything can happen so if you get invaded by multiple people (which is extremely rare) that you need your a high capacity magazine weapon at the ready to fire however many rounds. I never mentioned banning all guns and frankly the courts can and do change laws which is what hopefully happens here. Some states banning or limiting magazine capacity accomplishes nothing when I a California resident can go to a gun show in Nevada or Texas and buy there whatever I can't get here.

    Sarcasm doesn't always translate on a message board nor did it seem to belong given I thought we were having a serious discussion after 21 people just got mowed down 19 of which were kids.

    So you quote one article you don't even know all the details of the story and imply that supports high capacity magazine rifles? As to the bolded part let's start with a ban first and go from there. Banning them won't make them disappear but it would make it harder for the next soon to be 18 year to acquire one.

    There's likely no reason you need a high capacity magazine rifle. I know people that have such weapons and most of them go out to the desert, get drunk and shoot up shit. That's probably what you do maybe sans the alcohol and that's not a need. As long as you aren't getting mowed down by the 0.1% I guess it's no big deal. Gun control measures or rather getting rid of the sale of certain weapons would be the first step while we try to address the mental health crisis. No reason it should be just one or the other. We'll agree to disagree but sitting here saying removing one of the parts of the equation isn't viable because of ________ is a cop out. Have to start somewhere.

    Roughly 11 people each year die from bear attacks in North America and less than 1 a year from mountain lion attacks. More people die from snake and dog attacks. I understand the need in certain situations especially if you're alone but the need for a high capacity magazine weapon in those situations is extremely low.

    The right to bear arms was put in place 230+ years ago and falling back on 'exercising a right' is a farce considering how much guns and society have changed. None of what you posted about people using pistols, cars, or whatever justifies high capacity magazine rifles. We're talking about gun deaths in schools or for that matter any public area. We can't remove all the guns, we can't prevent every unhinged person from going into any area with a gun, we can't prevent every unhinged person from possibly killing a family member and accessing their gun but we can at least try to address high capacity magazine weapons. I'm fine with 2A and guns for self defense or hunting but you can't sit here and tell me there's a legit need for 99.99% of the population to need high capacity magazine weapons.

    Hand guns are less effective at killing a large number of people. We're a long way off from fixing what's going on mentally considering we have zero answers for what's going on mental health wise in this country, see how the number of homeless people suffering from mental illness. Using your logic someone can drive a large vehicle into a classroom or a crowded area if they want to. We aren't banning large vehicles but you can't tell me that 99.99% of the US population needs access to high capacity magazine rifles.

    From what I've heard it's been hard at times even for adults to find a therapist especially with the pandemic. My buddy found one but his niece who's in college was having issues and I told him he should have her check with the school as they usually offer those services to students.

    So when you're hiking do you have the rifle strung over your shoulder in case you come across a bear? I would think a lot of bear encounters in nature involve those "oh shit" moments where you and the bear wander into each others area or line of site. I'd think (perhaps incorrectly) that campers in your shoes likely go with a handgun that they can easily pack away and have concealed at the ready while they hike. That said if you tell me to prevent schools from getting shot up the cost is that hikers can't carry high capacity magazine rifles that puts them at more of a disadvantage against Yogi and Boo Boo then that's a trade I'm fine with.

    You're asking the wrong questions. Addicts still find a way I know because I just lost a friend who was one and he hadn't worked in years and this kid would have found a way just the same in the current environment. I think some of the many questions we need to ask is why does anyone need a rifle capable of mowing down 21 people? Also what's to prevent someone like this kid who has never been arrested for anything from buying a weapon when he's clearly mentally unstable? I've got no answers but the current way of doing things clearly isn't working.

    My mom's friend dated a guy who supposedly lived there back in the day. Maybe he was BS'ing us but we thought it was cool when we were 13 or so and it turned into a burger joint. I'll take TK over any of the other options I've come across.

    TK is my go to burger place and I hit up the one off PCH/1st street in HB about once a month - big bargain special, add a patty, grilled onions and mozzarella cheese. My buddy still has a polaroid pic of me and him in front of the house before it became TK when we were probably 13 or so and his mom used to park in the dirt lot that is now part of Pacific City when we'd go to the beach. You can always tell who is from out of town if you try to hit up that TK during the summer because the line for DQ is backed up onto the street whereas locals or people who have been before park and go to TK. Not to hijack to the thread it's just easier to talk about TK burger than what happened in Texas.

    Who the fuck thinks about shooting up an elementary school? Absolutely terrible. Don't care about the persons race or motivation and I don't know any details yet but I know no regular person needs a high capacity magazine rifle, body armor, etc. Not sure what the answer is but obviously doing nothing doesn't help.

    Despite being down 27% YTD Nasdaq is still up almost 90% the last 5 years while returns were heavily driven by FAANG, Microsoft and Tesla. If you're overweight tech stocks or day trading it hurts but if you've been playing the long game many investors may still be up.

    There were environmental concerns with the proposed setup but they’ve also changed the requirements since the Carlsbad plant was approved. I’ll be curious to see what happens with the site and what it means for other desalination plants along the coast. I imagine interested companies make think twice before sinking tens of millions into something that may not get approved.

    Hundreds of people working on a project that's now estimated to cost over $100B. Definitely makes sense to keep going for those hundreds of people at the expense of millions taxpayers. I can't wait to not take a trip on whatever train they do eventually build.

    Record number of trades in the first round, 6 WR's drafted in the first 18 picks, AJ Brown traded to Philly who gave him the more than $20M a year he wanted in an extension, Marquise Brown traded to Arizona where he's reunited with Kyler Murray, only 1 QB taken, GB didn't draft a WR and NE drafted a guy towards the end of round 1 who was ranked outside of most teams top 100. Definitely an interesting first round and I think a lot of teams on day two could be looking to move up for guys they didn't think would still be on the board.

    I hope some day just for the laughs some independent group audits the project to see where the money ends up. 14 years after enough idiots approved it and it's been scaled back while the cost is 2.6x the original estimate and growing.
