  1. I disagree, simply put you dont break the bank for a #3

Ive read articles saying he has had control issues and a flat hittable fastball, plus his k rate has dropped off the last 2 years

Statistically he projects to be about similar to what we would likely get from Garza, maybe a little better, but not enough to warrant the extra 50+ million.

I could be wrong, i mean trying to project these guys into MLB is a crap shoot... but you never saw comments like above in regard to Darvish, he was a guy you break the bank for, this is not Darvish 2.0.  These are warning signs to me that says he will either be very good and a potential 2, or could get rocked and fall to 4 or worse easily if the stuff isn't there.  I predict he will have a roller coaster ride like we used to see with Santana who also had good stuff when on, and batting practice when off.

I'm not worried about the name, or the market stuff.. im worried about results, and Id rather go with a known commodity that wants to be here that is a solid 3, rather than gambling on something that could be anything from 2-5 for more money when we already have legit 1 & 2 in place.

  2. We have a very hard decision to make// but the reality is we have no control over it.  if he wants to stay, he will stay, if he doesnt, no amount will help
I'll tell you this though, the Yankess should be deemed unable to sign him if it ever happens due to tampering issues.. thats was bull f'n shit and they knew it

Do i think any player is worth 400 million... man i dont know, thats one guy making more than some teams.. seems kinda silly.

  3. I am on of those peoples that values stats, however, i also value what i observe on the field during games.. i did not want to lose Trumbo, but i think the deal was fair and perhaps very good if both those guys work out.

There is a lot that stats dont take into account... Trumbo has perhaps one of the most raw powerful bats in the game... capable of hitting balls out of stadiums. that is not easily replaced.  Things like that can demoralize opposing pitchers.  but getting him to K can invigorate them as well.

I see a lot of articles lately that have as many acronyms as they do actual words.. and thats fine, thats baseball today i guess... but there is more to the game than the stat sheets.  These things may not reflect in the boxscore and may not have as great an effect on the outcome of the game, but that doesnt make them disappear.

Thing about the players we have loved over the years on this team.. that didnt have great stats according to the SABR guys, but were some of the best loved guys that came thru at huge times.  We joke around here about grit, guts, etc... as someone who played the game, i still think those things are better than a punchline.

Again, i think the trade made sense, even though i  was against it i think it was fair... time will tell.. but i for one will miss the big guy and that presence in the lineup.

  4. agreed... but thats also why i dont think they will stand pat with what they have either.. they didnt make all these recent moves to leave holes in the roster.
I could be wrong.. frequnetly am.. but there has to be something going on to explain why Garza etc.. are still unemployed when its obvious they shouldnt be.

I thnik it probable that the Yanks are looking to deal for a 2B, even if it means losing Pineada or one of their better prospects because they could then just sing Jimenez or Garza etc... but dont want to do that till they fill that need.

Just my 2 cents of course but i know it didnt sit well with them watching Bos win it all based on the moves they have made, perhaps something we can exploit for a change.

  5. Hey i know its been brought up before but with Ellis now off the board, what left in the 2B market that has any real value?

The Yanks are getting backed into a corner and the only way they would be able to fill the 2B vacancy with anything significant is starting to look like trade... and im pretty sure we have the best possible trade option.

I know they got Johnson... but that was clearly more of an insurance move than anything they really wanted to run out there 150 games in my opinion.   And they need Nunez to backup Arod and Tex as we all know both will be on the DL for much of the season.

This might be an opportunity to sell high for a change on a team that is making too many moves to sit back and go with a backup plan or AAA guy at 2B.

The real question become, what do they have to offer, its clear we would be likely looking for arms, something they dont have an abundance of either in the rotation or pen so.. then again what do they have an abundance of at this point?  i really dont know their system that well.  I dont think they trade Nova, or want to trade Pineida.. and Phelps doesnt excite me so...

...another 3 team deal in the works?

Oh, and in before the bring back Wells jokes... just, no.

  6. this was obvious when the new deal was decided... they got hosed.... other teams there were talking about kicking in money to help them... its a joke.  its good for mlb and once again proves the owners need protection from themselves... good for the player.. not so good for the team posting him.

  7. Thing about it for me is this... dont patronize us and say its about player safety.. its about protecting investments and avoiding lawsuits... nothing more, when it comes to the owners.
This isnt a new thing?  Posey lost a year, Fosse lost a career... where was the outrage then?
They have basically taken any reason to wear a cup out of the game, assuming there are any balls left to protect.

  8. Tanaka is in a whole other league than Matsuzaka IMO. I see Tanaka as a can't miss guy who may be even better than Darvish. Time will tell though.

I must wonder on what you base that assessment?

Everything I've read is that while they are similar statistically, though Davish is slightly better across the board even there, says he doesnt have Darvish stuff, lower K rate and a more hittable fastball.

Personally i think he far to great a risk and a lot more likely to be more like Matsuzaka than Darvish, and not worth the money you a re talking about.

I doubt he would be significantly better than Garza who would cost far less and is a known commodity.

Sure it doesnt have the flair or marketing appeal... but if that doesnt translate to on field performnce it isnt worth it.
