  1. Also without Trumbo you'd have to think the majority of those AB go to Green and probably a lefty FA like Eric Chavez. Green's good for twenty and so is Calhoun. Chavez or another lefty bat will help mitigate the loss.

Also, I feel that without Trumbo, the Angels could have more HR with Hamilton, Pujols, Trout, Calhoun, Freese, all over 20 and Kendrick, Green, Conger, Iannetta, all over 15. That's a 220 HR team.

so you think that by losing our #1 HR guy from last year we should hit more HR ?   really ?

I also am expecting bouncebacks from Pujols and Hamilton but thats a bit optimistic at best i would think

  2. Cahill used to pitch for the A's remember had a season where he had a sub 3 ERA (2010) He's the type of pitcher really affected by his catcher, because of his unorthodox delivery. But even a 4 ERA fits okay into our 4 spot.

Skaggs 2012 season was excellent in the minors but his velocity had been dropping. He needs to figure it out, but could be at AAA for 2014.

It's two good pitchers for one good hitter. Sappington is the Angels best prospect starter and he's at least a year away.

Also, Cahill is only 25. Skaggs is 22 or 23.

i recall... but as you say that was 3 years ago at this point, last year he was 3.99 in the NL so.. which is more relevant?

Skaggs may be 22 but as i said before we arent built for 3 years from now.

I dont know i just think its a lot for what we lose... and seemingly could be had thru FA without losing it.

Trumbos OWAR puts him as the second best on the DBacks, behind Goldschmidt per ESPN stats

Cahills WAR was 0.7, roughly he was between Garret Richards and Jerome Williams, who i still dont have a clue why we let walk away.... Skaggs was negative.

I think if we are going to lose a proven offensive weapon we should be talking about more than potential.

  3. Flop, you don't think Skaggs can be a legit 3? Not this year of course, but his upside? Not to mention, we would know what these two will cost over the next few years.

He didnt show it last year no... look were not built for 2-3 years from now either are we?

Again though if its both.. ok, still not wild about it but ok... if its just one, i hate it, period.

Until we know we are guessing, but i would have to wonder why they are giving these guys up based on past deals with them that haven't exactly worked out so we for us.. im starting o think DiPoto is the guy they invite to all the pokers games cause he cant bluff for his life.

  4. It's two pitchers being the key for me. A third starter and a fifth starter.

IF its that then maybe...  still dont know if its worth it for just depth but meh, im going to be in the minority on this one i can see already... but ill say it again there is no friggin way i deal him for depth or something that cant be a legit 2-3.

  5. Who would that be?

they arent dealing miley or corbin so look at the stats for the rest and do the math.

The highest ERA among the other starters was 3.99 by Cahill.. which likely puts him over 4 in the AL.

And they all have WHIPs north of 1.3 just so you dont think im stuck on ERA.

How is this worth enough upgrade over what can be had in FA to justify the loss of the power?  for me it isnt,

  6. so you guys are going to be ok with dealing Trumbo for a 4+ ERA pitcher?  cause all those guys that we would likely get either were or would be accounting for league inflation...

i for one am not.. we can find that in FA without losing him.  it makes no sense!
AS ve said i would be ok with it being a 203 type guys, but thats not what were talking about here.. if we do this were getting fleeced imo

  7. my first thought was trade Trumbo and sign him ourselves.... perfect #2 behind Trout in front of Pujols/Hambone is we had to trade trout, but the contract is going to be prohibitive of that one, lol

or we could just say the hell with pitching sign him to slot in at 2 with pujols,ham,trumbo...

the way the last couple of winters have gone... maybe not as crazy as i thought, lol

  8. Because Trumbo isn't as good as the "30 HRs/100 RBIs" thing would suggest.

If you can get a #3 type starter with some team control for Trumbo, do it. Especially given the monetary constraints the Angels are believed to be contending with.

that depends on the number 3 doesnt it?   if were talking about a 1.3+ whip and ERA over 5 that darn sure isnt worth it now is it?

and if the 30/100 thing isnt a good as it suggests then again, why would it get us anything of value in return?  it isnt like thye grow on trees and everyone has them

look like i said i get it, we need pitching, but we need something of value, not just a warm body because its what we could get.. didnt work so well last year.  if we are going to give up Trumbo it should be for something more than a solid 3-4, thats all im saying.. it should be a legit 2-3 type guy

Everything everyone is saying about Cron and Shuck is true, but lets not forget Trumbo can also spell at 1B and the OF so... they are still similar parts in that regard. but they wont put up his power numbers or even close.  other numbers might be better... but i feel like we have enough empty 275+ type guys  its just my opinion

  9. Trumbo's production is pretty easily replaceable considering his position. I mean, I'd argue Corey Hart could put up a .740 OPS if healthy. Kendrick and Aybar both play above average defense at premium positions while also providing above average offense (for the positions). Defense is incredibly overlooked and considering the Angels just weakened their defense at 3rd, they are going to need all the help they can get in the infield.

I like Trumbo and I wish the Angels could keep him while upgrading the pitching but frankly you have to give up talent to get talent. I don't see a fit out there for a trade involving Aybar or Kendrick that would help the team as much as this potential trade would.

IF that were true, and it was easily replaceable thru FA, then he has no value and any team that would have interest would simply sign Hart.   Thats not a bag on Hart, just sayin why would anyone deal for Trumbo if they can just sign him then.

We have in house options to replace infielders...

  10. What market?  as far as FA goes were talking about retread and guys that no one this side of desperate actually want and fighting over the privilege of overpaying them.

i said going in we better get it thru trade cause FA signings were no better than what we already had

  11. no way the yanks are going to match that.  not even close.

maybe there's another team they're trying to reel in and they're using the m's as a ploy, but i doubt it's NYC anymore.  not since they just signed 2 monster contracts with ellsbury and mccann.

its monopoly money to them. especially in an off season where they just watched Boston win it all..

who else is going to pay that?

  12. i personally think last season was the perfect storm in a bad way, and that the team is far better than it showed and will be better next year.

We had everything go wrong that could have really...

We need another starter, but i dont think we need 3.. not for what they will cost and the fact that virtually everything out there is average

shore up the pen, get a solid #3, maybe 2 if the price is right, and i think we ar back in the mix without getting stupid myself
