Makes zero sense to have Moniak leading off, especially since Urquidy has very strong reverse splits:
Career OPS allowed vs RHB: .786
Career OPS allowed vs LHB: .611
So this is basically like leading off Moniak vs a lefty.
(Of course, now that I've said this, he'll go 3 for 4 with a HR...).

Who fucking cares?  If the Angels did the same thing, no one would question it.

Should have just kept Anderson in there. Who cares if his arm falls off?

This was going to the tough game in this series on paper with Verlander going at home.  Let’s see the other two games.

I could see Rosenberg and maybe Detmers  get optioned.
Herget or Ingram could replace em.
They can’t really bring up Wantz, because he’s close to reaching his options limit for the season.

I didn't yell at you, Jason. I love you (in a non-gay way...not that there's anything wrong with that).

The biggest risk of losing this year is a potential Minasian firing. He is far and away the best GM since Stoneman. He is probably better, but Stoneman gets major credit for 2002.
I think Perry represents a perfect balance between analytics and traditional evaluation.  If given free reign over baseball ops and player development, I believe he can set us up for an extended window of future success

Tar and feather me for this, but I would prefer to retain Minasian over Ohtani

As I said yesterday, I'm just looking for 82 wins and maybe a strong finish, for a feel-good and a bit of incentive for Ohtani. Of course that it is going to be difficult with their schedule, but i guess the hope is that a spark is lit when Trout and O'Hoppe return.
The final nail in the coffin of viable playoff contention ended with the four-game sweep--at home, no less--by the Mariners. I'm not sweating it anymore.

But holy sh*t can these guys give us something to smile about right now?
As I said in another thread, it IS just a game. And spoiler alert, none of us are part of it. It's a bunch of strangers playing and us paying for it, and win or lose, we win or gain nothing.
There's a lot more important things out there to get your endorphins up or down.
This is a cheap shot, but everyone needs to think about the good times with Lou, and Brandon.
And then think about the bad times they had without us....
And I know thats a shitty thing to say, but it should hopefully make everyone nod their head and say "yeah, good point." Plenty of worse things out there than seeing strangers suck at baseball.
Sorry, I have my own thing going on at home right now, so I'm probably saying this out of frustration. And it's not at all aimed at anyone reading this. Not trying to preach and say "who cares about baseball, Im having an issue in my life!"
More just to remind everyone to still enjoy the rest of their night, and the weekend, regardless of what our favorite team does. Don't let it affect your real life is what I'm saying.

That said, it's been a shit week, Angels. Can you please try and win a freaking game please?

    Everyone be safe out there.

I never thought that 30% was contingent on them making the playoffs. I thought it was contingent on them playing well enough to show a promising future. They still could do that. But I’d probably knock it down to 28.34381% now. 🙂

I just remembered a conversation I had a couple days ago (with a source familiar with Ohtani’s thinking) that the latter part of this is true.
If the Angels would have traded Ohtani, it would have been next to impossible to then convince him to re-sign after the season. He would not have believed the Angels were ever committed to winning if they gave up when they were 3 games out with more than 2 months to go.

Perhaps it’s “Angel’s Trama and Psychotic Syndrome,” I’m familiar with that condition.

Somewhere Joe Blanton is going "at least I didn't give up 2 HR's to Singleton in a game" (chugs beer on the couch)

Relax.  I understand how it works.  Of course they need to pass the other teams in front of them, but the Blue Jays currently have the last wild card, so until someone (Angels or another team) knocks them out, they're the target.  I don't see what the big deal is about saying that.

Not even to the fourth. Bullpen game for the Angels. Not always an LAA strength.
