The Official 2022 Spring Training Hot Stove Thread
Don replied to mmc's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Well, he's pitched in one MLB game since 2019, but he was decent-ish the last time he was healthy. So yeah, I suspect he'll be in Tempe next week. -

Could also just be posturing as they're accusing the US/Ukraine of conspiring to use chem/bio weapons. -

That's basically Jerry asking him to sign. Lol. Not sure I'd want to go there if I'm Bryant though. -

I know I can't be right, but it seems like Stroman is a FA or very publicly available via trade every single year. -

I wouldn't be shocked if Greinke just retires now that he can't go to a NL team and hit. I know that sounds like an odd basis for such a decision, but it would absolutely be a Greinke-esque thing to do. Pretty sure the dude has mentioned before that he really wants to get to double digit career HRs. He's sitting at 9. -

If he repeats his 2021 production he'll opt out and probably get 4/100-ish somewhere. -

Yeah, the years part of that is appealing for sure. That said, the dude has been pretty pedestrian outside of 2021. There's also a decent possibility he just wanted to play in SF. Pretty solid place to pitch. -
I actually like this system quite a bit. Wouldn't hate if they made it the top ten picks rather than the top six, but this is still a big step in the right direction.

I saw someone online bring up Colorado as a possible destination for him, and honestly that's the only place that makes a little sense. DH/pinch hit against lefties, just lift some balls and hope. AP, for all his GIDPs, seemed to also enjoy hitting a lot of balls about 340 to straight away left. -

I'll say it... of the commonly available Asian foods, Chinese food is easily the worst. It's ok, but I'll take Thai, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean, Indian, or Persian food over it any day. I've never tried it, but I'm sure the Burmese and Malay have it together on that front too. -
It has decreased somewhat over the last several years. I'd love to blame that on getting older and having more things to do in general, but realistically I usually have the time to watch games or at least have them on while I'm taking care of other things. So while I have less free time than I did say 15 years ago, it's not like a lack of available time is the primary factor behind my declining interest. Plus, I manage to get plenty excited about the NFL and the Chiefs, mainly because the Chiefs manage to put a competitive team on the field very consistently and there is a strong bond (in both directions) between the community here and the team. In the case of the Angels, I really think it is the team itself and the sport in general to an extent that has diminished my overall interest. One, it sucks to root for a team that consistently puts a mediocre product on the field despite having so many great pieces already in place. And the plan never changes. Every year we try various versions of a pretty similar overall plan, and every year the organization sells it to the fans as something that really might work this time. It just sucks trying to get excited for a strategy with a low-percentage chance of success over and over again. And my viewing habits are kinda in line with this. I tend to watch a lot more games in the first half of the season (when I can talk myself into there being a chance of contending) than in the second half of the season. Second, the game itself has gotten a bit stale really. Luckily some of the new young guys have some personality they're not afraid to show, and that helps... But overall, baseball probably has the least entertainment value appeal out of the NBA, NFL, and MLB. Add that to the rise of the three true outcomes style of play, and well the games get kinda boring. Frankly, we need a lot more Rickey Hendersons and a lot less Adam Dunns.

Good Times in Ukraine and Russia

Maybe from other countries in eastern Europe, Asia, Africa, etc... Highly doubt you'd see it from western Europe or the US, as the qualifications and career development from pursuing that career are enough that guys that aren't active duty are probably living a fairly comfortable life right now. Who knows, maybe the thrill of it would be enough for some to consider it? But I'd venture to guess most of those guys have advanced degrees that have led to decent careers and nest eggs. -

Anybody watch the first episode of Winning Time? I watched it last night. Looks like it's gonna be awesome.

Yeah, I remember hearing something about fuel supply chain issues the other day, and I thought that was strange. It doesn't seem like something that should happen to a modern, well-trained, well-provisioned army during a PLANNED invasion. Like surely that had to have been thought of/planned for with contingencies way ahead of time.
