  1. Terrible decline. At least he is trying though, unlike Hamilton. Sigh...we could have just kept Hunter and gotten Beltre...
  2. His stats won't look that impressive by season's end, is my guess. Batting average in the .250s and only 14 doubles. He might have 40 homers and less than 20 doubles by year's end.
  3. Those will be the caliber of pitchers they will face if they get to the playoffs. We've seen this franchise struggle to hit in the playoffs the last few times they got in. You have to be able to scratch together at least a few.
  4. The offense last year was considerably better, was the bullpen. Last year we had Kendrick, Hamilton (who was still better than all our LFs this year), a much better season from Ianetta, and at least some production for DH (remember the solid contribution Cron and Green made about midway?). The bullpen was also much better about half-way through after the acquisitions. This year we literally are relying on a great season from Trout and a great month from Pujols.
  5. I've pretty much come to terms that this isn't a great team, just a solid 84-86 win team. The hitting just isn't good enough, and outside of Trout, there isn't much of a dynamic factor to make things happen out of nothing, like the Royals are able to do.
  6. Dumb to trade for three fourth outfielders. We just needed 1 of those guys, two max. Now you have to manage 3 different slumps, rather than 1.
  7. We should have traded for him. Better than Ianetta, has power, and brings it from the left side. It would be a bittersweet reminder of what happened 10 years ago as well.
  8. Would prefer navarro at 1B rather than Cron, who shouldn't even be on an ML roster.
  9. We don't have the players on offense. This almost feels worse than those 2010 and 2011 teams. At least then we had a Weave in his prime so we could win every fifth game.
  10. Your right, its too good to be on this thread. I guess the silliness of the movie reminds me of the silliness I have seen on the field and dugout recently.
  11. I remember bochy constantly going to romo and petit last postseason, not F'n around with his lesser pitchers (lincecum) in big moments. Scioscia was pitchin salas instead of rasmus in key moments, and we all know if wilson was healthy this year he would pitch weaver and wilson in games 1 and 2 of the playoffs.
  12. That's part of the reason this franchise continues to lose big games over and over. And that's one of the key differences between him and say, Bruce Bochy, as Grantland described, when recounting why the latter is such a good manager. http://grantland.com/the-triangle/bruce-bochy-best-manager-san-francisco-giants-baseball/ Scioscia always reverts to his "give a guy a second chance" routine to try and restore a middle-of-the-road player's confidence, even if he has to use that player in a big situation, that could cost the whole team. He relies on veterans rather than on who is actually the best player during that season. There's a few recent examples like: Going to Salas today when Heaney was pitching fine. Heaney has clearly been one of the best players on the team since he was called up. Going to Salas in the 9th versus Houston when you had better relievers sitting on the bench? Going to Salas last year in the ALDS? And then Jepsen? Why not use Rasmus, who had been a much better pitcher in the last few months going into the postseason? We all know Rasmus wasn't going to start a game with Wilson booked for game 3 and Santiago his likely back up. Replacing Lackey in the "This is mine" game in the 2009 ALDS, when his relievers came in and just coughed up the lead. Mysteriously sitting hot players the day after they ball out. Funny, he never did these things in 2002 and when the playoffs started, really shortened his list to Percival, Donnelly and Krod over and over again, because those were his best players. We didn't see much of Weber and Shields by the time the playoffs came around. The Giants have had a fair degree of turnover over the last few years in which they won their rings, but the big moments belong to a select few like Posey, Bumgarner, Cain, Casilla, Affeldt, Romo, Petit, and before them Wilson.
  13. We are about to experience a 27+ inning scoreless draught after today and tomorrow's games. We'll be close to done after that.
  14. Probably. We have a lot of guys who just aren't very good players and barely decent at best, like: Giavotella Ianetta Whoever is in LF Cron Salas Alvarez We need serious upgrades at C and LF, and probably 2B. We need some leadoff in one of those positions and speed, and we need some better 6-7th inning guys. Its not super far off but those are some pretty big holes for this season alone.
  15. We are going to add another bullpen arm though our offense is scary bad? Why not just bring Rasmus up for the 7th? Our offense is going to get exposed hard in these next 2 games.
  16. Calhoun isn't good enough to be a core player. He is just decent. He has looked totally lost the last 2 days. A core has to have some damn nice players, The Cardinals a few years ago had pujols, molina, wainwright, carpenter, jeez.
