You won’t get an argument from me about Scioscia, but no this lineup isn’t better than very many of his line ups.
And even then, they could've had a chance but the pitching gave up 11 runs

Thanks to Loup deciding to smoke a cig after catching the grounder from Outman, 4 free runs given up

This year it can be directly attributed to the injuries.
And yet, tonight's lineup is still better than a lot of the lineups we saw under Scioscia

Is it me or is the defense a bit too casual in turning double plays? Seems like a lot of very easy plays where they can only get the first out because they take their sweet time.
-
Seems like every year this team falls into a huge rut where they look checked out and defeated from the first pitch. No leadership in the clubhouse

Ohtani having arguably the best season ever, but still gets owned by Vesia multiple times

Mike "Vernon Wells" Moustakas to the rescue

Anderson's unplayable even as a mop-up guy

Yeah this one's over

A productive soon-to-be 34 year old first baseman. Don't know how Freeman's still doing it

What's crazy is the thread a few days back detailing rhe teams record at this point. And it's almost clockwork that they hiver near .500, then collapse in July/August.
Then this (Trout) happens.
Can't even call this sort of thing "random" or "bad luck" when it happens every single year

This is why the Ohtani FA situation has to be approached with a balanced view, given that he’s 30 in 2024.
He is two superstars in one. The important question is, how many more seasons can he do that for?
The Halos of course do know a lot more about how Ohtani works, vs signing a big money out-of-house FA like Pujols, Hamilton, and Rendon.
Is it better to offer Ohtani say 3 years/$200 million? Or say 11 years/$500 million with an opt out after 3 years?
The sad part is that even if we re-sign Ohtani and he continues his level of play, it may not matter at all. That's how bad things have gotten

Not enough fiber in the team diet

Looks like we have our Rendon replacement...
Can't wait to watch him hit .120 and strike out at a 40% rate

Maybe if they keep collapsing Arte will sell the team
Just kidding, he is keeping the team out of pure spite

The Mets are 100% gonna sweep us this year

Holy crap these guys are trash. Just completely collapsing against the most underwhelming team in the league

I get that its very frustrating that they are paying these two guys a whole lot of money and they are completely undependable. I do believe the issue is these guys are just breaking down physically. Trout has been playing pro ball since he was a teenager and playing at this level is tremendous wear and tear on the body. It happens to a lot of athletes.
Yep they've recently been particularly reliant on guys with a ton of mileage, whether it's Trout or all the failed free agent signings. For some reason they don't learn.
Gameday Thread (7/7/23): Angels @ Dodgers - Rendon still out but active

Maybe if we trade for Acuna, Carroll, Yordan Alvarez, Betts, and Robert, we can finally have the depth to not completely collapse by July of every year
