They just went 15-14 in a probably unprecedented 29 game stretch against teams with a losing record and you think this is the nadir? You ain't seen nuthin' yet.

Also, Diamondbacks are only two behind us in the race for most GIDP. Getting Howie will guarantee they finish number 1.

I'll go with the 1980 team. What a temendous turd they laid after the 1979 "Yes We Can!" season. 17 games back on June 18.

August 1, 2012. Pujols off Joe Nathan in the top of the 10th in Arlington. One of the worst managed games of the Scioscia era. I don't even want to get into it.

I'll go with the 10 year $50,000,000 manager contract and the hiring of a lackey as GM as domino #1

All I'm hoping is that Jerry and Arte had a conversation where Arte jokingly said "I'll fire Scioscia if we're swept at home in a four-game series to the Astros." Knowing full well that something that ridiculous could never happen.

Actually, the bust rate on high priced free-agents over the last five years is way over 50%. Probably more in the 80-90% range. Owners and general managers have to start to realize that there was about a 15-20 year stretch that was a complete fraud as far the natural aging of ball players. Throughout the history of the game, a hitters' peak years were 28-32. The great players could still perform at a high, but gradually declining level until their mid 30's, but after 35 it was usually a swift and sudden drop in production. Steroids, HGH, and God knows what else they were taking, was allowing these guys to not only perform at their peak levels but they were performing better in their late 30's than they were in their early 30's.
I'm sorry, but if you sign a guy at 32, you have to realize that his peak years are over and he's gradually going to decline into an average player by 35 and almost useless by 37. You can track the careers of all of the players who's careers ended before, lets say, the mid-80's and you'll see the same pattern over and over with very few exceptions.

Langston also called out Scioscia on his totally unexplainable (well, unexplainable to anyone but Mike) move of pulling Williams after only 74 pitches in that home loss to the White Sox on the 16th. Gotta love that as well.

So when they win, he's a good manager. When they lose, he sucks.
All I know is that he has not had his team ready to compete coming out of spring training for 5 straight years! Hopefully, he doesn't get a chance to make it 6. Until that changes, my opinion of him as a manager won't change.

Yes, lets disregard his 639 PA appearances in 2012 when he had one of the greatest seasons in MLB history and lets go instead with the 39 PA as a leadoff hitter he's had in 2013.

This team reminds me a lot of the 1999 team that flat out quit on Terry Collins reducing him to his famous tearful resignation. Or course, Joe Maddon took over and the team and went 19-10 to finish the season. However, managers don't make a difference when the team is losing. They only make out the lineup card.
