Would you be mad if the Angels signed Clayton Krenshaw
John Taylor replied to notherhalo's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
lol, my OCD wants to fix the title which would render a lot of the replies obsolete, but nah, Krenshaw it shall remain -
Angels and Reds have discussed Castillo trade, remain far apart
John Taylor replied to mmc's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
I actually didn't view your response as dickish at all, in fact it made me reevaluate my perception of him (Which I would assume was your's and @Dtwncbad's point). I think I get too hung up on legacy stats, lol -

Fair point. I'm still concerned about how many walks he has allowed, but the K/9 rate is pretty impressive as well. This is not the (Ken) hill I'm going to die on, so if he is much better than I realize and we land him for a decent price, I'm in. -

8-16 with a 3.98 ERA and leading the NL in walks is top 20 in baseball? He wasn't even the best pitcher on his team last year Tyler Mahle was. -

I honestly do not believe Luis Castillo is a high quality nor high value pitcher. He is middle of the rotation/middle of the road. -

Is trading Ohtani completely out of the question?
John Taylor replied to UtahHalo's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
I honestly don't think you can measure the value of someone like Ohtani. Outside of the fact he is currently our best pitcher, and one of (if not) our best hitters, he also amplifies the profile of the Angels organization around the world. Even though Trout has been the best player of our generation, you can still argue that Trout may not have lifted the Angels into a more marketable and valuable team like other "all time greats" have in the past, but Ohtani has the effect of creating new Angels fans outside of our market, including making the Angels incredibly popular in Japan (I believe the most growth on both the AW website and the AW Twitter were from Japanese baseball fans) With that being said, he needs to be untouchable for now, i mean even if you did trade him, at minimum you would need two frontline starters or else you've already lost, and there are no starters in MLB that have even close to the profile of Ohtani. Honestly I don't think there are any players in MLB. Vladdy Jr. could be a distant 2nd I believe you only float the idea of trading Ohtani if the Angels feel like they wouldn't be able to sign him to a long term deal, other than that, back up the truck of money and lock him up, even if he doesn't hit the kind of historic season he had this year, his name value should be a net positive in return over a long period of time. -
At this rate we will have more PbP announcers than starting pitchers this season.

My problem with Heaney which you can clearly see has translated to his tenure with the Yankees is his demeanor. @Chuckster70frequently talks about that "John Lackey" bulldog type pitcher that we seem to never have consistently since we lost Skaggs. Heaney optimises the opposite of that, he showed promising stuff but was always rattled easily and could cruise to 2 outs in an inning and then just mentally collapse getting that final out. Going to the Yankees is the worst possible place for him, he would have honestly been better off in Cleveland or Tampa, I don't see him as a Yankee next season.

Thoughts on Rich Waltz so far .......
John Taylor replied to disarcina's topic in LA Angels | MLB Daily
Couldn't stand Rich at first, but within about a week or so he completely won me over. Once he got comfortable in the booth I have found him to be a very good storyteller, and doesn't suck up to Gubi like Sutton did. -
Brandon Marsh called up, Kean Wong optioned

@Stradling I changed the title of the thread so I can promote it on Twitter, lol -

I actually liked Sutton slightly more than Matty V. Neither one of them hold a candle to Victor IMHO but I thought they both brought different strengths. Daron was definitely a huge homer but I personally didn't mind that. This is a huge surprise especially if Vasgersian doesn't do all the games for the rest of the season.
