Is it unusual for the Angels to sign all these international players?  I have a feeling it is, but I don't know.  It's good to see them acquiring some talent in any case.

    Last year, July 2 signings:

    Arol Vera, ss, Venezuela
    Adrian Placencia, ss, Dominican Republic
    Jose Bonilla, ss, Dominican Republic
    Adrian Pena, rhp, Venezuela
    Leonar Garcia, lhp, Venezuela
    Jeremy Villahermosa, c, Venezuela
    Gabriel Rodriguez, c, Venezuela
    Alejandro Hidalgo, rhp, Venezuela
    Sandy Charle, rhp, Dominican Republic
    Julio Torres, lhp, Dominican Republic
    Cristofer Tejada, rhp, Dominican Republic
    Anderson Vargas, lhp, Dominican Republic
    Enderjer Sifontes, rhp, Venezuela
    Olivier Gomez, rhp, Dominican Republic
    Angel Duarte, rhp

  2. "Also expected to sign with the Angels on Friday is Darlin Francia, a tall and lean Dominican right-handed pitcher. Francia is athletic with a smooth delivery, who competes mostly off his fastball, but shows some feel for a breaking ball with some shape.

Eivor Betancourt is a Venezuelan catcher who bats from the left-side. Defensively, Betancourt is a quiet receiver who will show 2.0-2.1 raw pop times. Offensive, he shows bat-to-ball skills but limited power.

Little public information is known about Venezuelan left-handed pitcher, Luis Viloria, who will also be signing with the Angels."

  3. For the 2020-21 signing period that opens on Jan. 15, the top target the Angels are expected to sign is another physical, offensive-minded shortstop, Denzer Guzman from the Dominican Republic. Guzman is 6-foot-2, 178 pounds with a loose, simple swing and good feel for the barrel, making hard contact with the potential to grow into above-average power. Guzman will probably start his career at shortstop, though a lot of scouts think his quickness and range will lead him to third base. His bonus is expected to come in around $2 million.

...Beyond Guzman, other notable players the Angels are expected to sign include Luis Viloria, a lefthander from Venezuela, as well as Darlin Francia, a long-limbed, 6-foot-3 righthander from the Dominican Republic. They should also land Venezuelan catcher Eiver Betancourt.

    • Angels added RHP Adrian De Horta to their player pool.

De Horta was an eighth round pick in 2013 who spent last year pitching at three different levels; registering a 5.33 ERA over 18 appearances with eight starts. He'll be added depth for the Angels of the truncated season.

Missed this yesterday, but the Angels’ four draft picks were added to the FanGraphs prospects board. Reid Detmers, David Calabrese and Werner Blakely each cracked the list, so see where they line up with other Angels prospects: https://fangraphs.com/prospects/the-board/2020-in-season-prospect-list/summary?sort=-1,1&team=laa&type=0&pos=&filter=&pageitems=100&pg=0
  6. According to the Minor League transaction pages, as of June 5, the Angels have released an additional 15 players. This, after the 39 previously listed

    Notes:

Carlos: While I am surprised Detmers got to this spot, I think when you take into account some of the realistic upside of players in front of him, this does make some sense. It seems like the Angels could use pitching every year, so I think this fits well with a need, and with talent on the board.

JJ: I feel like this is about the floor of where Detmers could go. He fits anywhere from six to here.

    Denzer Guzman

    Notes:

    Born: Feb. 8, 2004. B-T: R-R. Ht.: 6-2. Wt.: 178.

Report: Last year the Angels' top international signing was Arol Vera, a physical, switch-hitting shortstop from Venezuela. Their top target in 2020 is Guzman, another physical, offensive-oriented shortstop with a bonus expected to be around $2 million. Guzman makes a lot of contact against live pitching with a loose, easy swing, with the bat speed and physical projection to grow into considerable power as well. His strong arm should play on the left side of the infield, though his defense might fit better at third base.

    Notes:

    Born: Jan. 23, 2004. B-T: B-R. Ht.: 6-2. Wt.: 185.

Report: The Angels' 2020 international class looks to be centered around two Dominican prospects. One is Denzer Guzman, an offensive-minded shortstop. The other is Fañas, who trains with Felo and is expected to sign in the $1.5 to $2 million area. Fañas doesn't have Guzman's polished swing and pure hitting ability, but he's an athletic, physical outfielder with good bat speed from both sides of the plate, a chance to grow into 20-plus home run power and a solid sense for the strike zone for his age. He's a solid-average runner with a chance to stay in center field depending on how his speed and body develop the next few years.
