Paajarvi does have great upside to be a really good bottom 6 player. Big, good skater. He has all the tools. I remember when people were talking about him as a potential first liner. It's a shame his offense never totally panned out. Hopefully MPS can manage to succeed as a bottom sixer. I think he will. Too talented not to.

There's a good chance Seattle could've finished ahead of us last season were it not for Trout. Subtract about 10 from the Angels win column and add a few to theirs (there were a couple games we won aginst them where Trout was by far the biggest producer)

The problem I have with the "Contact" play...is having a runner go on any contact. The guy on 3rd should be able to decide.
If the ball is grounded to the right side of 2nd..it is a decent play. (again depending on the score, who is on deck, etc)
A ground ball to short or 3rd is almost always a sitting duck situation.
To me, (and this is clearly IMO), the total "contact play"...meaning the player goes home on any contact...is a bad play. No better than a squeeze, and "probability" wise, worse.
One of my biggest beefs with Scioscia is, and always has been, his tendency to play for ONE run.
Look at this new lineup. This is a power style AL lineup.
My opinion is, with this team, unless you are trying to TIE a game in the late innings, and you are playing at home and have a bunch of slumping players coming to bat next, and have nobody on the bench that can get the ball out of the infield....
The contact play is a chump bet.
It is a low percentage, 1 run, desperation move, IMO equal to a squeeze bunt.
NOT something that should even be considered before the 7th or 8th inning.
My problem with the way Scioscia uses it, is he uses it in early and middle innings.
Scioscia needs to stay out of this 2013 Angel team's way, and let them play for big innings....not micro-manage to manufacture single runs.

I think the vast majority on here felt a raise of 100K would not have broken anybody's bank, and would have been better received by all involved (fans, media, etc).

Yes I can get the argument that $1m would be a record. Did he not though have as great of a rookie season as there ever was? Even better than Jeter's, who got FOUR times his rookie salary in his 2nd season

I'll go with Crosby.  I like his linemates Kunitz/Neal and Kunitz/Dupuis slightly more as a whole than Stamkos' which has generally been with two of St. Louis/Conacher/Purcell.  Crosby with more total points, Stamkos settles for his third Rocket Richard trophy.

So which is it? Should they have paid him a million or am I overreacting? You seem to be contradicting yourself here

Wells is relevant when illustrating what kind of money is being talked about.  It is penny pinching.  Why risk affecting future negotiations, everyone asking Trout about this.... over so little money?

Some winning will do wonders for this board. Fans are understandably upset over last season, and 3 years without playoffs.
I have my doubts about Scioscia and his staff (Butcher) but hey, it is a new year, a better team, with new bats and new pitching, and I am stoked about the talent going into the season.
This looks like a group that could come together, a group of MEN. If they come together and play the damn game, the right way, Scioscia and Butcher, and Eppard, will be in the background where they belong.
Instead of being responsible for failure, a coaching staff should be quiet helpers towards success.
The players can take a lot of heat off Scioscia and of the whole organization, by going out and winning ballgames.

I'll just mention examples from August on:
 
Pinch run for Morales in scoring position in a one-run away game to avoid the game going into extra innings instead of worrying about "gutting the lineup" in the 12th+ inning.
Remove a struggling starter before he singlehandedly gives up a 8-0 lead
Keep a starting pitcher 2 outs away from complete game shutout in the game. 
 
That plus not phoning it in the last two days of the regular season (post elimination) = wildcard.

If I was getting paid millions of dollars I think I could show up to camp in just as good of shape as any of these guys. Don't act like it's torture to keep your body in shape and diet maybe lift some weights over the offseason. There is NO excuse for any of these guys to come to camp with a gut. It's their career; you'd think they could suck it up and move around a little in the offseason 

They've also got a decision to make with Iginla with the deadline coming.  They just seem like they're on a treadmill to nowhere.  Must be an Alberta thing.....

Angelduck, I won't hate on you for smoking herb but generally you want to be sober when trying to talk to a female you are interested in. Your friends won't mind if you aren't pushing the conversation forward because your mind is a little hazy but most girls notice that. It also depends on how much the herb changes you, if you are not even close to normal, then don't do it before you talk to a female. Now if you find a female who likes to puff on the peace pipe then that makes things a little easier. Oh and ignore most of the people here, they smell blood in the water and are just going to use this thread to shit on you.

Wells is a great example of the athlete that no one likes. I'd rather him be an asshole. At least if he was an asshole then he wouldn't have all these apologists kissing his ass. But since he's a nice guy he gets every excuse in the world made up for him while showing up to camp 20 pounds fatter than last year. The guy has no work ethic at all. I bet he just says he works on his swing, but if you're him, why would you? All that money's guarenteed. May as well just go have some fun and eat ****ing lobster and steak three times a day. Worthless

At least the Sharks lost. Good Lord the Sharks have been terrible since their fluky start. It's awesome
