  1. The Inside the Episode made it seem like they were dead. With one episode left, there’s really no reason for them to still be alive.

It seems a lot of people are complaining because things aren’t happening the way they thought they would.

People loved this show for being unpredictable...and now they’re mad because the show is being unpredictable.

Everyone seems to have forgotten the past seasons...hell, they killed off the main character at the end of Season 1 and turned weddings into massacres. A gradual portrayal of Daenerys turning into the Mad Queen wouldn't seem to have come out of left field. They could have spent this season dealing with the white walkers while building on the hints they've dropped over the years (talking about burning cities to the ground on multiple occasions, burning people alive). Instead you go from Daenerys riding to the rescue and saving Westeros from the White Walkers to arguably being worse than the Night King in 2 episodes. The story will end the same, it just feels rushed and instead you get the plot and time constraints driving massive character changes.

Overall though...last night's episode, viewed by itself, was pretty amazing. You can quibble about a few things like who gives a shit about Euron or why did Jamie and Cersei get to die in each others arms, but it was jaw dropping at times...and while the bells were ringing we all sat there hoping, just like Jon and Tyrion...hoping...only to let out a small gasp when the inevitable happened and she said F*ck it.

Oh...and right now...how many people who named their little girls Daenerys or Khalessi are going...ummmm....

You're all right about this.  I see a lot of comments on other boards about her and I think to myself, didn't any of these people watch the previous seasons?  Daenerys has shown in almost every season that she can make some pretty ruthless decisions.  She's not all there in the head.  If it wasn't for her advisers along the way talking her out of some things, she would have done some pretty horrific things in the show already.  Now she doesn't have any advisers to talk her off the ledge and look what happens.

    Also...

I'm glad they had Drogon destroy everything and there was no fight put up.  It's been told that the Targaryans were in power because no one could stop their dragons.  They would annihilate everyone with them.  So Drogon going through Kings Landing and single handily destroying it shouldn't be a shocker.  A lot of people are complaining they couldn't hit him with the Scorpions, but those things don't turn very well and even then, hitting a moving target isn't easy.  Also, I think they just wanted to show a complete ass whooping anyway.  Jamie foreshadowed it to Cersei a few times.  He told her there was no way they would be able to kill her dragon after Drogon tore up the Lannister army last season.  He also warned Cersei about betraying the north.  "If the dead win, they march south and kill us all.  If the living win, they march south, and kill us all."  Well, she betrayed the North and now shes dead because of it.

I really wanted to see Arya and Sansa's immediate reaction when Jon told him who he truly was .... but then he didn't even tell them, he told Bran to ... and then it was done off screen.

Dany couldn't see a fleet of ships flying high in the sky??? Euron is more accurate / powerful than the Night King??

What do you mean more powerful/accurate than the Night King?  Night King killed a dragon with a single spear.

  4. The Dothraki charging in like that I think was their tactic.  That's how the Dothraki fight and have always fought.  They're strongest on their horses and when they're running at full speed.  I think the plan was for the Dothraki to charge in and try and cut down as many White Walkers as they could and thin the numbers.  I wouldn't be shocked if they overestimated the power of the Dothraki and figued they might eliminate the majority of the White Walker army, leaving the Dragons and Unsullied to clean up the rest.  Daenerys and Jon watching from the cliff kind of showed that was the plan all along because Daenerys abandoned it pretty quick when she saw the Dothraki getting slaughtered.

I was ok with Arya getting the killshot.  Everyone seems to be all up in arms about the fact there wasn't some epic showdown between the Night King and Jon Snow.  But I think Arya killing him was the perfect person to do it.  She was the most equipped person to do it at least.  It made all her training at the House of Black and White mean something.  I think Jaqen knew what he was training her for.

Kroenke wouldn’t give Arte a piece of ownership of that building. It’s his and his alone.

That’s strictly a football stadium anyway. Kroenke has plenty of space there to build a separate baseball stadium.

Then there’s the land in Carson that they were going to put the Raiders/Chargers stadium on.

Im sure the Angels have been doing some searching the last couple years and are better prepared with leverage this time.

I nees to seriously get on it. I need to upgrade my internet at home, whenever i try to stream anything it struggles. But that sounds perfect. Bonus points that i can watch from my phone, too. Can you download shows from it to a tablet?

I need to get off my ass and stop procrastinating.

Yes, you can download the HBO Now app on any device.  You cannot download shows for offline viewing however.  So you'd still need an internet connection.

Is it pretty much the same for movies? Like the library is large? I really only watch the movie channels, only change the tv away from them during baseball. So if i go to the movie channel apps, is it pretty much the case where I wont even notice i dont have cable anymore?

Or to put it another way, besides the on demand movies, is it almost like streaming whatever is on hbo?

HBO Now is HBO for people without cable.  It has everything that HBO offers.  The only difference is instead of buying HBO from a cable company, you buy it from HBO.

You know that is just so Luke right there, it is actually kind of brilliant. Hux seemed to be the butt of many jokes, and was actually pushed around quite a bit. i felt a little sorry for him the be quite honest. When Snoke force pulled him acorss the bridge early on infront of the whole crew, that was just humiliating.Thats is one interesting dynamic im looking forward to in 9. Will the first order willingly follow Ben?  Its so funny that Snoke turned out to be nobody really. people have been speculating since before TFA about who he is and is was all for naught. I loved the way Serkis handled Snoke. I really wanted to see more of him.  Snoke seemed really interested in Vader, was it just the Skywalker bloodline? I mean Sidious was really the last true Sith Lord and Powerful as hell, yet he doesnt ever mention him. Its still a mystery how he even knows what he does about what happened with Vader and Luke.

Theres a fan theory that Snoke is actually inside Kylo now and has taken over his body. I’m not sure how much I buy  into that but it makes a little sense. I think Luke told Rey he could see Snoke inside and corrupting Kylo which is why he tried to kill him. Snoke was portrayed as being powerful enough to get into both the heads of Kylo and Rey and admits all the conversations they had with each other were actually Snoke controlling them. Snoke even told Rey he knew exactly what she was thinking, hence him toying with her when she tried pulling the lightsaber. I have a hard time believing Kylo was able to kill Snoke the way he did and Snoke not know about it. It would have completely contradicted his characters ability. So it’s possible Episode 9 will show the struggle between Snoke and Ben fighting over Kylos body. But in the end, Ben would just redeem himself and it would be very Return of the Jedish to me.

Interesting take... i like it a lot. Thats probably exactly why he did it. Still why with Anakins saber? why not his own that he built? even though they didnt exactly lock sabers, i would have loved to see that old green one last time during that scene. I mean i know it was in the flashback, but only for a few seconds. what a tease!

I think it’s just another head game Luke was playing on him.  In the Force Awakens when Kylo sees Rey with Anakins lightsaber, he gets extremely mad and demands he gives him the lightsaber because he says it belongs to him.  I think the whole projection with Luke was just one giant mind game to screw with Kylo and get him to appear unhinged in front of this new Empire he is leading.  Show them he’s not stable enough to be a leader. Perfect example of this is when he’s firing on Luke with all the weapons and General Lux finally has to step in and tell them to stop while making the snide remark to Kylo asking if he thinks he got him.  I think Episode 9 will have a power struggle between Kylo and Lux.  I just wish the Lux character had a stronger presence and was less whiney.

Fair point, i guess im just letting my disappointment could my judgement here. It's possible especailly now that Carrie is gone that he might have a big role to play in 9. I willing to give it a chance.

ETA: Speaking of the projection scene, i found it strange that he appeared younger and with Anakins saber. I wonder why that was? if it has any kind of story significance or was just a choice by Johnson.

My take on that was Luke knows Kylo is extremely arrogant and had he projected the grey haired, raggedy, homely, old Luke, Kylo probably would have thought Luke was weak.  So he projected the young, strong, Jedi Master that Kylo remembered. And Luke knew he would get a reaction out of Kylo that way.  Just my opinion of course.

Thats exactly why im disappointed, i dont want to see another force ghost, its been done already. Theres no reason Luke should have been on that island, there was no explanation other than he was feeling sorry for himself. I mean after all these years he needed Yoda to tell him failure is the best teacher? I think he learned that in the OT. They didnt know what to do with Luke so they took the easy way out. I dont see why he and Rey couldnt have gone on adventures together similar to Obi/Anakin. Now that to me, would have been fun to see. I like the chemistry between Mark and Daisy. But its is what it is.

Thats why I said let’s see what happens in Episode 9 before judging this movie. We really don’t know what’s going to happen with Luke. I feel they are already doing something different with Luke than what we’ve seen before. Luke projecting himself through the Force is something we haven’t seen before. Let’s see what he can do in death.  I keep thinking of what Obi-Wan said in ANH.  Strike me down and I’ll become more powerful than you can possibly imagine. Wonder if that has any truth with Luke also.

That is a good point, its just why has none of that bothered him in the 25 years before Bens Fall? Ben is what broke him finally? ehh as you pointed out he's been through hell and back already. I mean i guess its possible, i just dont buy it. and to cut himself off from the force? not even Old Ben went that far and he went through just about as much as Luke. Maybe i'll change my mind in time about how they handled him. for now though, i strongly dislike it. I mean why did they bring the OT3 back? just to kill them off? it would have been better to do a trilogy without them in it. Disney knew they would get buts in the seats, thats why. Its one thing that irks me about the ST so far, everything thing is bigger and stronger and badder than anything in the OT. Super powered Jedi with no traning, bb-8 can do anyting, Poe(and i like the character) can take on a destroyer alone.

In no way is Rey superpowered in this.  Both Luke and Snoke pointed this out. Luke said she was very powerful but it was also raw and she is very much unpredictable. That’s what scared him in the first place.

As for Poe, he’s supposed to be in insanely skilled pilot. They haven’t shown it too much which I think they were trying to do him taking on the ship by himself, but character wise, he’s supposed to be unmatched as a pilot.

  13. Very, very bold movie. I’m still unsure of the whole thing and I think I might be that way for a while. I definitely need to see it a couple more times to try and digest it. However, I think this is one of those movies that a lot of people will end up liking AFTER Episode 9 is released. Or at least people will find it much more enjoyable.  I think there is a lot of WTF moments going on in people’s head and once they see he entire trilogy completed, this movie will be much more appreciated.

how they handled Luke in this. Im not sure i agree with anything they've done with his character so far in the ST. They basically made it all his fault any of this is happening. He tries to kill Ben in his sleep? That i could never see Luke doing. And what exectly was the payoff for finding Luke, He really didnt teach Rey anything at all and then he dies. Guess Jedi dont need training anymore? It used to take a lifetime of training to become a competent force user. I know its not his story anymore,i just find it to be lazy to kill him off. its such a tired trope, old master dies. I mean Luke is only 55 in TLJ.

Youre assuming Luke’s story is done in all of this.  I wouldn’t be surprised if he still has a rather large part in Episode 9.  Just because he’s dead doesn’t mean he’s gone from the story. Obi-Wan and Yoda proved that one. Speaking of Yoda, it wasn’t until he appeared and destroyed the tree that Luke woke up to what his purpose was. Rey wasn’t going to go back to the island after the way she was treated by him and finding out the story with Kylo. At this point the best thing he can do to train Rey is to die (which he said was his purpose on the island) and come to hear as a ghost.

As for it being un-Luke like to kill Kylo in his sleep, he explains in the movie he realized the same thing. He hesitated in killing Kylo even though he said Kylo was pretty much the embodiment of the Dark aside at that point. But Kylo caught him standing over him and reacted towards it. Luke wasn’t going to kill Kylo even though he knew he should.

get a sense of humor, buddy. it's called a joke. read the criticisms you listed as to why you don't like him.

You assume I’m angry about this.  I’m not. I’m not going to sit here and actively root against Kinsler. I’m an Angels fan first. I’m also a Cowboys fan and getting Kinsler is about the equivalent of when the Cowboys got TO.  I didn’t like that either for pretty much the same reason I don’t like Kinsler. Except TO is on a whole different level of douche than Kinsler.
