  1. I was watching the draft that year. How's that for lame? Of course the trout pick stands out for me. He was the only kid at the draft! I rememember him coming up and getting hat and being interviewed. I also remember thinking how different this was from the nba and NFL drafts. I also remember thinking "WHY is he the only kid there"!
  2. I once had an interesting question asked of me during an interview. The man asked me "What do you see as your biggest leadership weakness"? I said " my brutal honesty". He replied " I don't think honesty is a weakness". I told him "I don't give a flying **** what you think is a weakness". I celebrated 26 years at this job last September.
  3. I ****ing hate you guys! I was gonna break out the Airplane "buttah lay me to the bone Jack me up" but you beat me to it.
  4. Bush 43 made a decision on 9-11 that we would not be tacked on our soil again. Virtually everything he did after that was aimed at this end game. In that he was successful. He crossed the aisle for support and that's where the spending went out of control. Not only had Clinton not given the peace dividend back to taxpayers He had spent it. Now when we needed to gear up militarily we need new money. Bush let dems spend whatever they wante so long as they supported his Mid East efforts. History will tell how well thought out his efforts were. But we didn't have another attack on US soil.
  5. Ok ya'll I apologize for hijacking a thread to go over events from 24 years ago. But I didn't want to let pass what I felt was a misrepresentation of Bush 41. I also never addressed the topic of Jeb Bush. To be honest I don't know a great deal about him and his core beliefs. But knowing the family he comes from I will give him a listen if he decides to run.
  6. This is true. However if you will recall Clinton ran on "the worst economy of the last 50 years". And that just wasn't true. Post Vietnam/oil crunch/runaway inflation during Carter was a worse economy. But as you stated these things are cyclical and were not entirely of Carters doing. Clinton ran against a lie was the point I took from his post. I do believe that Clinton benefitted from policies put in place by previous administrations. He even admitted that the economy was improving before the election. Of course he waited until after the election to say it. And then took credit by saying the people were inspired by his imminent election. Lol spoken like a true politician. I do believe the "Internet economy" was a real phenomenon that created massive amounts of wealth. Even with the Dot.com busts there were billions of dollars of new wealth. Clinton just happened to be in office during the time when home PCs and the Internet became widespread and affordable. (No Al Gore jokes). The influx of Internet money is an anomaly in the 8-10 year rule you mentioned.
  7. Yes wopphil. It's well documented that the economic numbers were all revised after the election to show that there had been 4 quarters of growth including growth of almost 8% the quarter preceding the election. We can't know how a second term for Bush 41 would have gone but can you imagine how history would treat him if he had been President during the rise of the Internet economy that Clinton benefitted from?
  8. Bush 41 fought for our country in WWII as a pilot and was shot down. He swam for three hours until rescued. This shows bravery and perseverance to me. Bush 41 served as a Congressman from Texas and helped pushed through legislation to allow minorities equal and fair housing. A very unpopular side of the issue in Texas in the 50's and 60's. This shows leadership and a sense of right and wrong. Bush 41 served as Ambassador to the UN. Among the highest levels for a diplomat in the world. Bush 41 served as Chairman of the Republican National Commitee. He was recognized for his organizational skills and team building at the state level and tapped for the national Chairmanship. Bush 41 served as Liaison Officer in China. This was during the times when we had no normalized relationship with China. This was during a very hostile time in our history with China and it is thought that his influence helped with the eventual recognition of China and a normalization of relations. Today this job would be Ambassador. Bush 41 served as Director of the CIA. His contributions were so well thought of that Bill Clinton dedicated the CIA Headquarters at Langley the George H W Bush Building. This was while Clinton was still in office and before these two became such good friends. Again his team building skills and diplomacy had shown to be of great value. Bush 41 spent eight years as Vice President to Reagan. He was sent to every hotspot in the world because of his skills at diplomacy and because the leaders of the world trusted him and took him at his word. He also represented our country at every high level state funeral during that time. Reagan sought his counsel on a weekly basis and he helped form policy. Bush 41 served as President for four years. He built a coalition to go into the Middle East and drive Iraq out of Kuwait. This was a major undertaking as he aligned virtually every Arab country against Iraq and allowed the U.S. to go in and drive them out. Those of us that remember all of this recal Iraq launching dozens of SCUD missiles into Israel daily. Hussein was trying to draw Israel into the conflict which would have destroyed the coalition. No Arab country would take up arms on the same side as Israel. EVER. Bush 41 kept Israel calm and on the sidelines during this whole affair. Thus preserving the coalition. Bush 41 watched over the collapse of the Soviet Union and the fall of the Berlin wall. And he had the guts not to gloat. He used his diplomatic skills again to encourage Gorby and support him on the world stage. All of this without pissing off all of the Soviet hardliners which could have had dire consequences. History will show that Bush 41 was on the right side of almost every major issue of the last 60 years. He has treated all of this with great humbleness and zero personal fanfare. President Obama honored Bush41 with the Presidential Medal Of Freedom. Bush 41 deserves a lot of credit for his work for the U.S. he is quick to share any credit with staff and everyone else. Serving as a one term President does not make you a bad President. We were lucky to have a man and leader of his caliber take up a life of public service. And he really seems like a really nice guy.
  9. Jimmie Reese was far from random. Only major leaguer to serve in Spainish American war and room with the Babes luggage
  10. Leroystanton Dave chalk Saul berensen Rudolph Rednose Ivan Awfulitch Garth brooks Horton Hearzahoo
  11. We just watched his stand up from DC earlier today. Laughed out loud.
  12. Sorry about that Brandon. It is still worth a watch. You have to suspend believability watching he Sheild but not as much as watching SOA. Just saying that last time I killed 50-60 people in three weeks I got ****ng caught! One more episode. Will piss me off if Bobby Ewing walks out of the shower and it was all a dream.
  13. Am curious what the body count for season seven is.
  14. Jax will allow the mayhem to proceed. But he will die from his congenital heart problem as yet undiagnosed. Gemma had open heart surgery. His brother Thomas died of a heart condition as well. And chilis even made a point of mentioning Gemmas scar in his scene. I have seen this coming forever. But I really thought Gemma would live to suffer without her boys or grandkids. Sort of how Sutter left Vic Mackey exiled in a cubicle at the end of The Sheild.
  15. . That is awesome. Just last year trout was left off some assholes ballot even though it had ten spots. He had three Boston players on his ballot and no Trout. Percy and I agreed that was a bullshit ballot.
  16. I am deeply saddened to hear this news this morning. My brother and I have both beat our own cancers and have lost our dear mother and older brother. This Cancer has to be beat. And it will be. My earliest memories of Percy is probably the third or fourth time I saw him. I remember thinking "I have seen that hat before". LOL. I remember him from spring training. From his questions to Tim Mead at our tailgate. I have half a memory of Tim asking where he was at our Q&A during BP in Tempe this past spring. Did that happen or did I imagine that? I know I sent him a couple of notes of encouragement during his fight. My heart is aching today as we have lost a friend. I think we need to have a memorial trophy or plaque In his honor for best question for the round table panel at the AW spring fest. Just a thought. Thoughts?
  17. Of cou rse we would eat a person. Just wouldn't want to try dog,cat or that monkey brain thing from Indiana jones.
  18. Joe buck kept saying during the game that Baumgarner was in line for the wing. But he also mentioned during the broadcast that Jeremy was awarded the win. I don't recall ever seeing a five inning save before. So much Giant pitching this post season. Petit and his six shutout innings in the 18 inning win against Nats was the most impressive performance before Madison in game 7.
  19. Colin Farrel was surprisingly good as the father in Saving Mr Banks. Maybe I just wasn't prepared to see sch a tortured role in. A movie about a disney movie.
  20. If you all don't mind traveling to Chino, my favorite sushi place is near the prison. Sushi 10 at Fairfield Ranch and Central. Worth the drive.
  21. This is horrible. He was just starting his career. They talked a lot about hi during the playoff Cardinal games.
