DR, some of your best Shenanigans are the somber ones. I say that in the most respectful way. I feel extremely fortunate to catch a glimpse of your thoughts. You're strangely like an older brother/best friend passing along this wisdom that a non-existent brother, or friends could ever muster up. You have incredible perspective. You don't even know me, yet I imagine you'd be able to deliver the most apropos euology of me, just based on the way you perceive things. Arod. He will get in some day. They are going to let all juicers in. If Bonds and Clemens get in, Arod will get in. It's just a matter of time. As soon as all the fossils who vote that have the Bob Costas "Protect the game -- everything after 1968 sucks" mentality die, you will see those guys get in. Veterans committees will put guys like Palmeiro and Sosa in. You already are seeing a trend of the more vocal journalists calling for the HOF to check itself. Dan Le Batard giving his vote to Deadspin is another example of how these guys are trying to correct the process. The HOF is not a shrine for saints.

I listened to the interview with Gurnick. Clearly he's very conflicted. I have always maintained in my argument about the HOF, that it full of liars, cheaters, murders, and so on... Now it's good to see some of these writers acknowledging that you can't have a huge void in the HOF that covers 20 years, and misses out on the guy with the most Cy Youngs, or the dude who hit the most bombs. Gurnick should have abstained this year, but wanted to help Morris along. It's tough to wipe out a 20+ year period off a ballot. He won't vote again. It's too bad.. He's not the villain people make him out to be. But he didn't handle it well.

I grew up on Hal too. I was lucky to produce for most of those bigger guys over the last 20 years. I missed Dunphy before I got to KCAL, but everyone loved him. Despite working across the street from Hal, I never met him. I heard he was tough, because not only was he the anchor, he was the managing editor. He really did call all the shots. Moyer's nephew does a good job on KTLA now. He's sliding into that Hal mold well, after they were in flux for so long. For me, nobody was better than Moyer.
