  1. An English translation of the Japanese newspaper article below.

Mexico Red Devils, who have a short-term contract with Trevor Bauer, who played last season for Yokohama DeNA, announced that they will extend his contract by one month.

In response to a press interview, DeNA's Team General Manager Hagiwara commented, "We have always had the intention of acquiring him and have been negotiating.  His agent told us about that, and we think it's unfortunate."

Hagiwara was informed in advance through Bauer's agent that there was a possibility of extending his contract. He currently has three wins in the Mexican League. The original contract deadline was the 8th.

Near the end of this season, Ohtani often asked the sushi restaurant Koto to deliver Japanese cuisine. The order is usually for two meals, a pre-match one and a post-match midnight snack. On Mondays when the restaurant is closed, the chef's wife made beef stew for him.

Previously, the chef worked with Ippei's father as a 'itamae (cook in a Japanese kitchen)', so he knew well from when Ippei was young. When Hideo Nomo came to the Dodgers in 1995, Ippei became interested in MLB.  About 15 years ago, Ippei worked at this restaurant when he was 21-22 years old.

Above is my POST in 2021.
In 2006, 18 years ago, Ippei had been looking for a job, and the chef hired him.
Ippei had stated that he graduated from the UC Riverside in 2007.
I was a little suspicious of about his background, whether he was attending the university while working. But I thought the Angels would have looked into his background when hiring him, so I left my doubt open.

The following was from an article of a Japanese sports paper:

Until last season, I had met Mizuhara several times by chance at a Starbucks near Angel Stadium.  When ordering, the name he gave to the clerk was always "Jay."  At the time, he said, "I thought it would be difficult for people in the United States to call me 'Ippei'."

Looking at the comments, it seems like that's maybe NOT what Ohtani said.  It's a mistranslation ( @cals). Several people are saying that he said something like someone was able to talk to the fans for him, not that he himself spoke to them.

In Japanese, it is possible to converse using syntax that omits the subject. The listener must judge who is the subject based on the situation, but even native Japanese speakers can sometimes make mistakes.

I will translate Ohtani's remarks about his first home run ball into English.

"Upon returning to the bench, I learned that a staff member had spoken to the fan who caught my first home run ball. She had decided to return it to me. It's a very special ball for me, so I'm incredibly grateful."

Just when you think the Dodgers can't possibly sign any more stars, several GMs believe that Roki Sasaki, 22, one of the best pitchers in the world, already has plans to sign with the Dodgers after the season.

“Every team in baseball wants this guy," one GM told USA TODAY Sports, “but there's no way he's going anywhere else but the Dodgers. We all know it."

Also, should someone do a wellness check on @FromJapan?

I am healthy but busy with personal matters.
Most of the reports on this issue follows that of the United States. The two Dodgers vs. Padres games held in Seoul were broadcast live in Japan. Before the first game, many Japanese fans noticed that Ippei looked thinner and more exhausted.

  9. Dodgers' minor league players are set to face the Asian Breeze in a game on March 10th in Glendale, Arizona. Bauer is expected to take the mound for the Asian Breeze, a traveling team based in Arizona that operates solely during the spring season, for approximately three innings. Bauer will be taking the mound due to his prior connection with the Asian Breeze manager. (Source in Japanese: Nikkan Sports, March 7th)

The affiliations of Japanese players for 2024 season have been confirmed.

Since teams with two Japanese players are concentrated in the National League, it is expected that the National League will be the primary source of game broadcasts in Japan.
     Ohtani and Yamamoto (Dodgers)
     Darvish and Matsui (Padres)
     Suzuki and Imanaga (Cubs)
     Senga and Fujinami (Mets)

The American League includes Kikuchi (Blue Jays), Yoshida (Red Sox), and Maeda (Tigers).

Uwasawa (Rays) and Tsutsugo (Giants) have minor league deals.
