I guess we can say one good thing Dipoto did here is he got us 3 everyday players in Ward, Fletcher and Walsh in his last draft with the Angels.

I'm so fucking tired of Oakland. Every year everything goes their way for 6 months and then they choke in the playoffs. They are a waste of a playoff team. I'm sick of them and hate them so much.

I'll put my money on those two guys over Eppler any day when it comes to acquiring starting pitching. Something Eppler was atrocious at doing during his tenure here.
I'm really glad he was fired.

Expect some BIG changes with the new GM.
Also, I'm not giving Eppler that much credit for "rebuilding" our farm system. They still have a bottom 5 system this year and have never had a strong farm. They have Adell and Marsh but if one is traded then it's thin again.
Eppler kept Trout, Brough in Ohtani, found Bundy/Goodwin/LaStella/Mayers and a few others, but still had some major whiffs.

He did some nice things. But never had a winning record and Arte spent a lot of money. The cupboard isn’t as bare as when he got here but he needed to do more. 5 straight losing seasons with the best player in baseball is plain unacceptable. Time for someone new. Hopefully they hire a president of baseball and GM but I don’t think that’s happening.

Yes. Eppler's strength set the team on the right path. He got spending under control, rebuilt the farm system and proved an effective bullpen could be built for cheap.
And now we need someone that can come in and make the team a winner. Someone that can acquire the pitching Eppler couldn't. Someone willing to trade the prospects Eppler wouldn't. While also keeping payroll in a healthy place.

Yes, 5 seasons with losing records with the best player in the league is just simply unacceptable.

I had all but given up on Taylor Ward but the last couple of weeks he's shown me something at the plate. I'm starting to look forward to seeing Walsh and Ward improve and in bigger roles for next season if they're both still here.

Right. But what I was saying was that I would have preferred to extend La Stella. Maybe they already tried and were unsuccessful so I can't say definitely that Eppler screwed up. I just don't see how 4 years of control matters if the guy can't hit. Extend the proven commodity instead of trading for a younger non-prospect. This guy is literally the same type of player Eppler has traded for time and time again (former top 100) and they never pan out.

In truth, probably the best path for us moving forward is to move on from Eppler once this season ends and hire someone from either the Dodgers or the Rays.
The thing we greatly lack, IMO, isn't so much that we need THIS player or THAT player, but rather, we are missing the infrastructure that those teams have that builds a long-term, sustainable, winning team.  The Dodgers, Rays, and probably now the Giants (Farhan's influence) are great at draft, developing, and finding talent, such that they don't really need to rely on signing a bunch of players to be successful.
Look at the Giants, who we just faced - Yaz, Slater, Solano.  Who are these guys?  The Giants found them in the dumpster bin, and Yaz/Solano have been two of baseball's greatest players this year, in terms of fWAR.  The Giants may not be good this year, but Zaidi inherited an absolute mess.  Their farm is much better, most of their big contracts are about to expire, and they have young kids who are playing very, very well.
We need a President of Baseball Operations who has that same vision and comes from the "Friedman tree," so to speak.  We have some fantastic pieces in place, but we need considerably more help, and we really do need to build a much better farm system.
I feel bad for Eppler, because he did inherit a bit of a mess, but my feeling is he's just average at what he does, and at this point, I'm ready to move on to someone who can build a winner today, tomorrow, and into the future.

I certainly can't remember a worse pitching staff than this. Eppler needs to be let go immediately. This is inexcusable.

Hello everyone this is my first post on this page (although I read a lot of posts on here)  but I'm going to introduce myself to this group by saying I hope and pray Eppler does not come back next year. I think 5 years of this team finishing well below .500 should indicate this direction isn't working. The team appears to be going nowhere- and actually looks like they;re going backward to be honest. Honestly I don't think this organization can take 2 more years of Billy Eppler at the helm with the disasters we've had on the field the last 2 years. He's failed and needs to be replaced. That is the one thing I hope comes out of this disastrous season. There really is nowhere to go but up at this point. At least I hope lol.
