Lagares made a nice play going back on a ball in CF early in the game. It'd be nice for the Angels to have a true stud defender as their 4th outfielder.
Last season, Taylor Ward and Jo Adell were coming in as defensive replacements for Upton. To put in a guy like Lagares over Upton would be a massive difference late in games.

They brought in Mayfield and DFA'd Garcia, hoping that Garcia can clear waivers and they can stash him in AAA and outside of their 40-man roster. Then, in a couple weeks, they may even DFA Mayfield and hope he clears waivers in order to stash him in AAA and off the 40-man roster.

I wonder why the Angels still haven't announced their minor league coaching staffs for 2021. Schedules are out, so we know they're going to be playing. Normally it'd be announced by now.

Dipoto is in the last year of his contract and the Mariners leadership above him looks like a disaster right now.

Yup.  Lol, I'm not even sure Mayers is someone that can be looked at as automatic.  As @Blarglikes to say, relievers are weird.

Yeah, I do think he will be valuable, regardless of what role he's in.
I just worry about their lack of high leverage options. I only really feel confident in Iglesias and Mayers. So someone needs to step up.

I know most view the later innings as being the higher leverage ones but I'm a big believer of using the shutdown guy when he's most useful like they used to do with Shields.  That's not to say that I think Pena is that guy, but given his ability to stretch out a bit he may end being one of the more valuable relievers.  I think Sandoval could also be that guy.

We've seen some for pure minor leaguers and some position players, but it doesn't seem like we've seen a ton for arms with MLB experience. That does seem odd.

Maybe this front office has a better sense of what to look for with minor league signings  than the previous group?  Being more discerning with minor league signings could be a positive.

Just frustrating that Buttrey is seemingly the third late innings guy.  That likely won’t cut it.

As of now, I don't think they sign Odorizzi.
If a SP were to get hurt and Odorizzi were still available, I think they may consider him, but I think Minasian has exhausted the budget Arte gave him.
