He'll be the first MLB front office guy to go on the DL

I am looking at Cliff Pennington for a back of the rotation starter.
 
He's cheap ($3.3 million this year), his arm is fresh, and his fastball is 7 mph faster than our ace's.

I still like the idea of trading Santiago for Trevor Plouffe. Trevor is projected to get about $7mil in arb. Santiago should get a little less than that,so we add only a little payroll there. With Freese gone we will actually save a few dollars.  Then get a lf'er/ leadoff hitter. Then as much pitching as we can afford with the remaining $.

Latest thought is to sign Zobrist (no draft pick lost) and a solid guy for the backend of the pen (assuming no draft pick lost), and then trade for a solid LF who defends well, runs well, and hits the ball to the gaps. 
We have enough MOTO power with Calhoun, Trout, and Pujols.
We need better defense, speed, and OBP; and a solid back end of the pen guy. 
We need to continue to cultivate the starting pitching depth.
We need to hope that Richards will be back to ace form in 2016. 

I would rather Hanigan @ c than Avila. I think Avila is toast. What might be telling is what the Tigers do regarding Avila, as his dad is the GM there.

I am not a fan of Puig's, will all his antics. But i kind of think guys like Pujols and Aybar might be a good influence on him. If so, he might be able to play under control and fill lf. He has had a few problems with hamstrings, so lf might make him a little more durable.

Give Featherston an entire season at SS in Triple-A before you write him off. 

Personally, i don't want to see us taken out to the woodshed by Theo and Madden. This Baez guy may have some talent, but he still has weaknesses. He could turn out to be good, or he could turn out to be as good of a major leaguer as Joan Baez. What bothers me is that as good as he supposedly is, he can't break the Cub's lineup.

I would bet that 2-3 of those prospects listed never make it to the majors.

How about Trevor Plouffe for 3b? I read where the Twinkies might not have a position for him with Mauer at 1b and Sano probably playing 3b. 

We still don't have enough to make that happen.

Seeing as our new GM is from the Skanks, i wouldn't be surprised to see us trade Santiago to NY for Gardner to play LF and leadoff.  

I remember being at his last start before the all star break in '64, where he beat the A's to even his record @5-5.  Think he was 15-4 after the break. pretty incredible for being on a .500 team.

If they played .500 ball during august, they win the division.

In Cron's defense, he looked a ton more comfortable with the glove later in the season.
He made some nice plays during the late run, scooped some bad throws..
I think he improved enough to get some kudos for his work out there.

Panik is also having back problems. Could be another Dallas Macpherson in waiting.

With all those free agents you have listed there, our payroll might rival the Dogs.
