  1. Good teams have good hitters who don’t play everyday. At full health, one of Upton/Pederson/Fletcher/La Stella/Goodwin will always be on the bench- that goes up to 2 when Adell is ready. That’s really promising.

my first instinct was to think they’ll probably trade Marsh for pitching now or flip Pederson. Maybe Clevinger?

also, this makes it likelier we bring back Simmons it seems. Unless they think Fletcher can be full time SS which wouldn’t be bad but I wouldn’t say that’s ideal either.

I’ll miss Rengifo’s tiki sounding walk out song

Yea, I would do nothing until the trade deadline rather than be saddled with Price’s entire contract.   Once again, I would listen if Upton was going back the other way.  Now if I could trade for both Price and Betts and it doesn’t cost us our premium prospects and I could then flip Betts for a legit starter I would do that.  Not my money.

    that would be awesome

  3. Is anyone thinking about how Ryu is leaving pitcher friendly NL west for pitcher nightmare AL East? I’m not sure this will be a great deal for them. I would’ve been happy had he come to the Angels as it’s not an insane contract, but I am skeptical if he’ll succeed in the AL

hopefully Billy can make a fair deal for an ace in a trade! This sucks a little bit though

  4. That Fangraphs article about Teheran's sinker had Robles and Justin Anderson as having the 2 most valuable sinkers in the league and Teheran as 8th. He seems to fit right in with the philosophy of how the pitchers will work with the defense. I think it's a good move and they must have identified this same information about his sinker needing to be a focus.

One of Ryu/Keuchel seems too obvious to not sign given this philosophy. Although, I really do hope that signing one of those guys and Julio will open the door for some of the young arms to be moved with one of Marsh/Adams for an ace. Would love one of the Mets arms

  5. As a resident of Pasadena, Bowden should have asked me to show Rendon my neighborhood. I’m sure the bars on the windows, the trap house, the occasional police tape on the bars of the windows, the drive by’s, the abandoned gas station and the food market truck with La Cucaracha as its horn would have done the job

OC all the way. Although San Marino and South Pasadena are like little slices of OC in LA

  6. If you’re expecting guys like Upton and Simmons to have a major drop off or Adell to not figure it out soon, wouldn’t that make investing in someone like Rendon more necessary? In that scenario, the same question of “who’s going to pitch the next few years” and worrying that we’ll be “counting on young pitchers to perform” could be asked about hitting too.

it sucks but rendon does open up Fletcher to be moved with Marsh (I wish not) and other pieces for an ace. I really have been thinking Syndergaard would be a target, especially if he’s open to a contract extension. Hopefully the other young guys like Jackson and Paris continue to progress and maybe in a year our system would be in the same position it is now even after having traded/graduated our current top 2.

  7. Getting Rendon would make losing an asset like Wilson make a ton more sense. It would probably open up some of our infield depth to be traded for pitching. Signing Ryu in addition would make sense with that 2 players over $20 MIL comment.  If it’s a shorter term deal for higher AAV then that could be solid.

maybe trade for Syndergaard (no Adell, no canning) and extend his contract. The extension doesn’t have to take hold until his contract is up, so that could help afford Ryu and Rendon. Ohtani is as good as anybody in the league and he has a lot to prove which I think will lead to a great year.
Thor/Ohtani/Ryu/Heaney/Bundy/Canning looks very good to me

Can’t tell if serious or not...

Our leader in IP had a -0.3 WAR. Our leader in IP pitched 102 innings.

Our leader in SP WAR was a rookie at 1.1

Bundy almost equaled our top 2 leaders in IP and WAR combined

Unless we gave up someone great we don't know about yet, yes we needed someone like this
