Ah yes, the truth that the 2014 and 2015 Royals relied exclusively on their elite bullpen to compete.
Nevermind the elite seasons from Shields, Ventura, etc in 2014.
Or that the Royals felt the need to trade for Cueto mid 2015 after Cueto had finished #2 in CY voting in 2014.
Anyway..
Obviously the strength of your bullpen can help overcome weaknesses in your rotation. Just like the strength of your offense can overcome weaknesses in your pitching.
Still need a #1 though, so who is it?
I don't know if it's been done before, but I remember the 2012 Reds rotation was ridiculous.
Cueto - 33 starts
Latos - 33 starts
Bailey - 33 starts
Arroyo - 32 starts
Leake - 30 starts
Todd Redmond - 1 start
... That's it for the whole year. Wow
So back then, he said he could increase his spin rates by x amount if he used certain substances.
Then in 2020 he increased his spin rates by x.
That's my point.
He has openly been experimenting with different grip... Enhancers... To test the impact on his spin rates. It seems he may have utilized these... Techniques... last year. Check out his spin rates.
I think Sandoval has better stuff than Santiago, but needs to refine his command.
Cole seemed like a pipe dream because of the cost. Bauer's cost is far less. Seems like a good opportunity actually
