  1. White Sox sign Luis Robert to an extension. Would anyone here give Adell the same offer? https://mobile.twitter.com/JeffPassan/status/1212806717190410243
  2. "Jeff Fletcher said he heard the Angels have no interest in Teheran" Clearly things change.
  3. Looks like it's actually against the CBA, per my above post.
  4. I think the contracts for both Ryu and Keuchel are fine, so I'm just surprised
  5. One thing to note is the statcast expected stats are not predictive. Tom Tango admits as much, but here's a baseball prospectus article for those interested. https://www.baseballprospectus.com/news/article/40026/prospectus-feature-siren-song-statcasts-expected-metrics/
  6. We seem to be in agreement then. The original comparison using ERA and rWAR tried to show Teheran and Cole as roughly similar. My comparison was trying to show the huge talent gap between them.
  7. His xFIP and SIERA are close, so I'm not sure what you're saying. Teheran has a career 38% GB rate though. League average in 2019 was 43%, so he's certainly below average in that regard. I think the positive spin is cheap, durable innings. Which is perfectly valid.
  8. Gerrit Cole career: 24.0 bWAR, 3.22 ERA and we were on suicide watch when he went to NY. Julio Teheran career: 20.2 bWAR, 3.67 ERA and people are complaining. Thoughts on the above comparison? My post was in response. But non traditional stats are hard for some people, so no worries
  9. Idk why people are relying so heavily on ERA in this discussion. I'm surprised nobody has brought up pitcher wins. Past ERA isn't that good of a predictor of future ERA. Other stats have been shown to be better, such as xFIP and SIERA. Teheran xFIP SIERA 2017 4.96 4.89 2018 4.72 4.67 2019 5.26 5.11 Career 4.37 4.27 Cole xFIP SIERA 2017 3.81 3.97 2018 3.04 2.91 2019 2.48 2.62 Career 3.22 3.31 Teheran fWAR 13.7 Cole fWAR 28.8 Only bringing up Cole because of the earlier comparison people loved, but if you actually dig past the surface, it's clear as day. Anyway, $9 million for an innings eater isn't terrible value, especially given recent health struggles in rotation. It's like Cahill again, but with a better health history. I think they get one more starter. Ryu/Keuchel.
  10. Kluber and Upton were both good in 2018 but injured in 2019. If people are optimistic about Kluber getting healthy and returning to form... Why are they not as optimistic about Upton getting healthy and returning to form? Upton is also the younger of the two. I just don't think we should write him off yet. Healthy Upton is still a high quality player.
  11. So the Angels will never give Ohtani extra rest, even though he's coming off TJS? And the Angels will only focus on his 2019 where he never pitched a single game? Ok. You're allowed to think that. I think it'll be like 2018.
  12. I'm saying not he's bad against LHP. I agree with you that he can hit both sides and should hit both sides as much as possible. Like I said I agree. But they choose to sit him against LHP when they have the flexibility, as I pointed out in the game logs. It's literally what happened so idk what else to say anymore.
  13. I'm just saying they choose to rest him vs LHP when they can
  14. Aug 18, 2018 LH Perez Aug 22, 2018 LH Keuchel Aug 24, 2018 LH Valdez Aug 26, 2018 LH Freeland All Pujols starts at DH. All LH starters. Weird coincidence perhaps
  15. Pujols lineup spot for starts last year. #3 16 games #4 46 games #5 46 games #6 19 games Ohtani and Upton missed time. With their health plus Rendon, I think he will be mostly #6 this year. Maybe even #7 if the lineup performs. Ideally he wouldn't see a lot of time, but realistically, he probably ends up with ~400 ABs next year. Though maybe that's my Scioscia prediction. We'll see with Maddon!
  16. My edit overlapped with your post so I'm copying it below: To demonstrate what I mean, look at Ohtani's batting game logs for 2018. Look at the games where he pinch hits in an AL ballpark. Opposing SP tend to be LH. For example. April 10, 2018. Ohtani does not face LH Martin Perez. PH against RH Bartolo Colon. Long story short, I think it'll be similar to 2018, but we'll see if Maddon gets creative.
