  1. But back to baseball. A big yaaaaaaaaa for the mariners having dippoto ruin their farm system. And a even bigger yaaaaaaaaaaa to our farm system having a lot of potential.
  2. I know Blarg, and I was combining several thought to create my own. The awkward part of the thread to me is when it gets political. Poking and jabbing at one another is kind of normal in these threads on AW. But the political posts are what are awkward to me. If I want politics, which is almost never, I will read one of the far left or far right media sources ( since that is all there is now). And when I want to read about the Angels(which is all the time) I visit this site and others.
  3. It is indeed becoming such an awkward thread. Especially since politics are being brought in. I’m sure a new thread could be made in another segment or portion of of this site if you want to talk politics. And a segment far away from where I will go. But please keep them out of the baseball/Los Angeles Angels daily area of the site.
  4. And I have no facts to prove this, but I would think that mid inning changes happen a lot more often than not.
  5. Acording to a USA Today article from a year ago (https://www.google.com/amp/s/amp.usatoday.com/amp/88966884) The average amount of pitchers used in a 9 inning game was 6.89 in the year 2000, and has increased to 7.88 before last year. Something tells me that number is even higher now a year later. Plus factor in that before then more starting pitchers pitched deeper into games. So these number likely has been increasing ever since Bullpen roles have been developed in the 70’s and saves became an official stat. So pitching changes is a problem. Especially when you factor in a relief pitcher already warming up in the bullpen. Then having a catcher go out and “talk to the pitcher” while the guy in the bullpen continues to warm up. And then the manager will go out after the catcher returns to the plate and takes his time walking to the mound to then call out the reliever they want. Even furthered in time wasted, is the pitcher then comes out to warm up more while tv and commercial breaks take place. So yes the amount of pitching changes and all the time wasting segments of the change itself is a part of contributing to the added time to games.
  6. But 10 years ago there was no tradition(many instances) of bringing out a reliever for only one batter. And there definitely was no tradition(instances) of making 2-3 pitching changes in one inning like there is now. We have already moved beyond the traditions of baseball. Edit and realization* I am more for these change of pace options than I even realized.
  7. I am really torn on the change of pace option potential. On one hand, as a former pitcher and catcher, it is all about control of the game. Pitchers and catchers want to control the game and throw off the timing of batter. When a pitcher is on, he is more likely to work faster.(most pitchers, as some are just slow workers regardless). Whereas a batter is trying to throw off the rhythm between the catcher and the pitcher and create timing for himself. that’s why a batter will call time out after a few seconds of setting up in the box and no pitch is thrown. This gives timing and control back to the batter. Timing is control. However, as a fan, and a relatively young fan (close to 30 years old) I see the problem with a game constantly taking longer and longer. More of my friends are less baseball fans and think the game is boring except the very end or when home runs are hit. SO SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. Also, it seems that analytics is adding to the time of the game. It seems it takes more time for a manager to figure out if he is going to have a shift, or do a pitch out. And then relay signs to the catcher who then get up and relays signs to the field. Then he gets down and gives signs to the pitcher. This is all after a pitcher walks around the mound a little bit and after the last pitch and the batter has stepped out of the batters box and adjusted his batting gloves, then gets his sign from the third base coach. (If a manager is contemplating a challenge, forget it, it’s a mini rain delay at that point) And this is not taking in account all the tv delays and tv advertisements that delay the game. I agree that somethings need to be done. and I am warming more and more to options like, less mound visits. May be even limit pitching changes to one per inning. And then only after an injury may another pitching change be done. And when there is no injuries, or when a pitching change come from a dug out, have no warm up pictches. That’s what the bullpen is for. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE. BASEBALL HAS A CHANCE TO BECOME MORE POPULAR WITH THE FOOTBALL VIEWERSHIP DOWN.
  8. Come back to Angels side my friend. We can all sit around and share Dippoto hatred stories and talk about how bad he ruined our franchises. Then we get to watch the most exciting and interesting players in the game (trout and ohtani).
  9. Yet it is still a rule. The rule is, that if you cross the luxury tax line (competitive balance tax) you have to pay a penalty tax. There are parameters set that help guide you through the rules (guidelines). Part of these parameters are the actual tax threshold and the penalties set for those that cross the luxury tax line. It is agreeded upon in the collective bargaining agreements by the owners and players association just like law are rules, and if you break a law(rule) there are penalties. And usually guidelines or fee/penalty schedules to tell you what those fees/penalties are.
  10. So in other words...... the owners are conspiring to follow the rules and guidelines set forth and agreed upon in the collective bargaining Agreement?
  11. Skaggs, Perez, Jamahi Jones, Hermosillo, PTBNL, and we will will eat 255 million of Stanton’s Contract. Get it done Eppler.
  12. Even if Upton Opts out and doesn't return, this trade was well worth it. It is a sign that Eppler has the go on using up the budget and acquiring high price players. It is a sign that our team is in it to win it, rather than constantly retooling. Furthermore, this trade was rather a small price for a MOTO bat we desperately needed. This trade to me is a clear two thumbs up no matter what the outcome or future is.
  13. I literally am scared of the result of any pitch nolasco throws.
  14. Get nolasco outta there. I know we do not have anyone to eat up as much innings, but anyone can go out there and give up a run or two each inning they pitch.
  15. I couldn't have said it any better. As we have shown against some of the upper echelon teams, when we are hot, we can beat anyone. If we can spend and get another piece or two, who knows what can happen in the playoffs. Rarely the best overall team wins the World Series. It's usually the hottest and healthiest team who plays with good chemistry and leadership that wins.
  16. I'm hoping Nolasco is sitting in the bullpen at that point. I wish i would eat crow if that means he is back to the nolasco of last half of last season though.
  17. Or even Calhoun, escobar(since his contract is expiring), Jamai jones, and David fletcher for Stanton And Dee Gordon. Then move Cowart to 3B.
  18. Just offer Calhoun, jamai jones, and to eat most of Stantons Contract and call it a day.
  19. I agree with the premise of this post. I think if we(we as in the Angels) have a strong off-season and get two impact players and some more Epller special finds, we have a chance to compete. The reason I say this is because, how often does the best team win it all in Baseball? Not all the time. In fact, look at 2002 when we won it. We didn't have the best team. But we had the most hungry team, who played most like a team. In 2002 our best starting pitchers were Jarrod Washburn and a Rookie John Lackey. But we had a solid bullpen and a gritty hungry team who would not Quit. So I think if we can get a another impact player or two, stay healthy, get hot down the stretch, keep our nact for never giving up, as well as to continue develop our team chemistry; I think we have a shot. In fact, the same can be true for now. Never give up an opportunity. And we may have one now. Angels Never Give Up.
  20. Agreed. We can get similar offensive production from CJ Cron in a full season if we just put him in the lineup everyday. I'd rather go after dee Gordon to be honest.
  21. If the Angels do not acquire a 2b at the deadline. I think I am falling into the "have Cowart play there everyday" category.
  22. I like strads lineup. And with Maybin out. It may be worth trying: 1. Escobar 2. Trout 3. Simmons 4. Puljos 5. Cron 6. Calhoun 7. Maldonado 8 Pennington/Franklin 9. Revere/Robinson May be flip flop Simmons and Calhoun. But I like Trout at 2. Our offense was getting hot when Trout was batting second before his Injury.
  23. I would be ok with him batting leadoff as well. I think it's a great idea to get him as many bats. But the two hole seems ideal, puts pressure on the pitcher and allows the lead off man see better pitches. Also gives Trout a chance to drive a man in and get RBI's. Seems like the best of both worlds in the two hole.
