I don't think most fans expect much more from him than what he's shown at this level throughout his career.  However when these discussions come up there's always some people on the far right/left of the discussion.  The initial post is trying to egg on "the haters" when there's a lot of season left (someone will bump when he struggles), some people think he'll come back down and we've got at least one mention of him becoming a superstar.  He's turning 30 this year and while he can improve most guys don't get a whole lot better after 30.  Instead of focusing on what he should have done it's a lot easier to focus on what he does give - slightly above average play from a fairly weak position and I'll gladly take that.

I don't fault the FO for getting rid of an inconsistent Santana who was going to make a nice chunk of change. Signing Blanton for 7.5M a year for two years was crap from the get go.

I can't envision the war on drugs ever ending in our lifetimes because I can't see all drugs being made legal.  I think a step in the right direction would be legalizing marijuana and getting rid of the costs associated with prosecuting and incarcerating individuals charged with posession, selling, etc.  That said I think there's too much money going towards the jobs associated with that and people will cry "think of the children" during discussions to rile up the anti crowd.  I realize in some states it's legal and we'll see more legalize it but I'm talking on a federal level.  I remember reading some of the guys who had a hand in the war on drugs back in the 80's saying years later it's a massive failure and a waste of money but I'm not surprised they keep pouring money down the drain to fight another war that will never be won.

A zero tolerance policy leaves no room for grace or a second chance hence the words zero tolerance.  Again you're ignoring the fact it's illegal to have a gun on school grounds whether it's loaded, unloaded or legally owned.  This isn't about being a hard ass it's about kids who brings guns and knives to school putting others in danger.  The schools have a zero tolerance policy because this isn't even a topic they can allow to be remotely close to a grey area.

I meant as far as having an NFL arm and the ability to be a top 10 QB while making bad decisions but I can see how it reads otherwise.  Rivers took criticism last year for his arm strength and there's been some question as to whether or not there's something wrong with his arm but I think the players he's had to work with could have something to do with his results.  If there isn't anything wrong with his arm getting rid of him would be a bad move considering what he's had to work with in SD the last few years.

Catwhoshatinthehat got a reaction from NrM in Problem with the Team is Pitching!
Offense - 3.71 runs a game 4th worst in the AL
Pitching - 5.43 team ERA last in MLB
    Defense - 12 errors 28th in MLB
Base running blunders - still a problem

Any way you want to slice it this team has underperformed in pretty much every aspect.  I expect the offense to come around and agree the pitching had major question marks but no one thought both would be doing this poorly at this point.  Even if you take that away this team still makes dumb mistakes which has been a recurring theme for a few years now.  Some of what they do on the bases is beyond laughable.

He's averaged 214 IP's the last 4 years and has always thrived on being a guy with a deceptive delivery and very good control.  This is one of those cases where I'll be concerned if he isn't producing but that hasn't been the case.

So he wasn't the same pitcher later in his career as he was in the prime of his career?  That's not unusual.

Agreed but Cage takes flack for the fact that he seemingly takes every role he can which I'm guessing is due to his money situation.  I have to vote for Shia LaBeouf who I blame Hollywood for more than his acting as for a while he seemed like one of the "it" actors who got way too many parts.
