  1. Not so smart when the house burns down and 6 generations don't make it out of the garage that's been converted to a bedroom in time.
  2. It's not a matter of being pro or anti taxes. No government runs on hopes and dreams, patchouli and unicorn farts it's funded by tax dollars. In the US the largest source is federal income taxes while about 50% of the population has no skin in that game. The issue is when the federal government continues to run deficits when deficit spending was originally meant to spur growth during recessions but it's become a way of life for 3+ decades now. When candidates come out talking about free college, free or subsidized health insurance and so on it's to buy votes for something there's already no money to pay for. I'm fine with the progressive tax system we have but not when they talk about raising taxes to pay for votes many of which come from people who are net takers that get more than they ever put in. This country doesn't have a revenue problem it has a spending problem and no one really seems to want to address that they'd rather come up with creative ways to screw taxpayers which hits the middle class the most.
  3. I worked at a grocery store until 2002 and even then WIC was milk, cereal, cheese, etc. The cereal couldn't be the sugar filled crap and the cheese wasn't 'cheese product' it was actual cheese. People on WIC either didn't pay attention or didn't care and regularly tried to get the crap that didn't qualify which we had to take back while holding up the line. Since then the list seems only to have grown: http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/wic-food-packages-regulatory-requirements-wic-eligible-foods Not sure when you worked at a store or if you're confusing it with something else like food stamps but my understanding has been there's always been nutritional requirements. I don't recall anyone on WIC buying sugar filled cereal or over processed crap but food stamps were a different story.
  4. Stupidity isn't a good excuse. I used to work at a grocery store and people on food stamps would buy the worst possible food simply because they got more for their money. Never mind the fact it was all processed garbage and no wonder why their multiple kids were overweight to grossly overweight. WIC at least requires people to buy certain foods. You want to call it a lack of education and I'd say most were just too lazy to bother buying things that would require them to actually prepare a meal.
  5. Comparing the US healthcare system to that of some of the other countries is apples to oranges as mentioned. Also if you think the federal government is the fix as opposed to private company when it comes to insurance you're sniffling glue. Government involvement and inefficiencies is one of the biggest drawbacks to anything the government gets involved in. They create multiple agencies or departments some of which end up regulating the same thing twice and generally ineffectively while wasting taxpayer dollars. Here's my problem with Bernie's plan or anyone else's for that matter who wants to raise taxes - cut spending before you talk about raising taxes. I'm not in favor of giving the feds or state even one more $0.01 because they'll piss it away and still want more. Every time some candidate comes out and says we're going to cut the deficit and deal with the debt it ends up being BS.
  6. I generally tune him out on this forum because he spends more time talking about the 'donkeys' than he does his own team.
  7. Not sure if this was posted but here's a link outlining his supposed income tax changes: http://www.fool.com/retirement/general/2016/02/07/bernie-sanders-income-tax-brackets-how-much-would.aspx?source=eogyholnk0000001&utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=article
  8. They'll franchise him or ink him to an extension. They were were working on an extension with Jackson but weren't having much luck and were instead able to extend Wolfe in the last few weeks which likely meant Jackson has played his last game in Denver.
  9. The guy didn't just not go after one ball he didn't go after a fumble when his team was down by 6 in the biggest game of his career while the opposing offense wasn't doing anything. Had Carolina recovered and punted Denver runs the ball 3 times again like they did the previous series and if the Carolina D holds them they get the ball back. Instead Denver had the ball in FG range where they could make it a two possession game. Cam's a stud and I didn't get the hate before the game but that play is what people are going to remember him for more than his MVP if he never gets a ring. He looked rattled out there from the get go and credit goes to Denver but man up and dive for the ball or at the very least take your licks at the presser after the game.
  10. Must have been watching something else...like 2 Angel games in a row from last season. Both defenses played well and it was a one possession game late in the 4th. Wasn't as good as last years but sure beat the hell out of Super Boel 48.
  11. After how last season ended I was a pessimist as a Bronco fan. Said before and early in the season the only way they would go anywhere is if the D played out of its mind. I didn't say it expecting for it to actually happen but they carried them to a title and were at their best when it mattered most. Awesome season, great to see Peyton go out a winner and it's great to see Ware get a ring. Not like there was any doubt before the season or this game but Von Miller is gonna get paid big time and definitely deserves to be Super Bowl MVP.
  12. If they would have ruled it a catch on the field and Denver challenged I don't see it being overturned as its one if those plays where you don't see enough to overturn on the replays. Since they ruled it a no catch, the ball was moving after he rolled and part of it did touch the ground when he initially landed I see why it wasn't overturned. I expect Carolina to come out and put some points on the board with their first possession. Denver offense needs to get something going sustaining a long drive and putting points on the board because the dense will tire.
  13. This. Other nations don't intervene because they know the US will which leaves us footing the bill, possibly losing US lives and in the end pissing someone off when civilians are injured or because we stuck our noses where they don't belong which plants the seeds for future generations that don't like us. I liken it to people I've met that are extremely nice and go out of their way to help others. After a while people who aren't their friends and even some who are take advantage of them. That isn't right any way you slice it whether there's treaties, trade agreements or any other back room handshakes involved.
  14. I agree that any GM needs to still have some sort of long term outlook even if they're deemed as going all in for a year because sooner or later every team rebuilds. I think as fans or at least for me it's just the fact that offensively LF was so bad for the Angels last year (ML Ranks - 3rd last in AVG, 2nd last in OBP, last in SLG, last in OPS, last in HR, last in R, 2nd to last in RBI) and we're going into this season hoping someone we got off the scrap heap rebounds big time to fill that need. It would be nice going into the season saying "_____ is going to start 130+ games in LF if healthy" but it is what it is. Sooner or later one of the scrap heap position players the Angels acquire has got to surprise us in a good way.
  15. Agreed but really all that matters is what the roster looks like going into the season. You don't get points for trying to make the team better and the Angels traded their top prospect in the Simmons trade. Like I said before I'm fine with that trade on a stand alone basis but not when the team's biggest needs were on offense and nothing was done to address that. I realize Eppler only had so much to work with between trade pieces and money so I don't put it all on him but so far I don't think this team is any better than it was at the end of last year. Hope to hell I'm wrong.
  16. The US benefited from those jobs for years because the rest of the world was so far behind. People with nothing more than a high school diploma could get a job they'd work for 30-40 years that would allow them to support a family and retire with a pension. Those days are long over and you can blame it on companies moving jobs overseas but ultimately that's globalization and the reality of the world we live in. People in developing countries are willing to work for lower pay and longer hours just for a chance at a better life while people in industrialized countries want more pay and benefits for less work. Pretty easy to tell who is going to continue to gain ground and who will lose out.
  17. I'm not in favor of raising taxes because we've seen how when federal or state governments do that saying doing so will bring in ___ then when reality hits and they fail to bring that much in the middle class gets hit the hardest. The top 5% can afford the best accountants and lawyers money can buy and will find ways to shelter income from the IRS. Deficit spending at the federal level was meant to spur growth during recessions and instead it's turned into a way of life for over 3 decades now which isn't sustainable. Time for the government to practice what it preaches and learn to live within it's means instead of always looking for more ways to bring in revenue. As far as comparing the feds to drunken sailors on shore leave that's not fair to drunken sailors because sooner or later they run out of money.
  18. So politicians promoting plans they don't give any details about. Par for the course.
  19. You're probably a bigger target than the little newspaper delivery women. If it had been you one of the 100+ shots may have found it's mark and your family would be spending the money.
  20. South Park Archer Futurama Community - first seasons with full original cast Brooklyn 99 Scrubs Just Shoot Me - like Doc said the episode with David Cross playing Spade's slow brother was amazing. Chicken pot chicken pot chicken pot pie... Friends That 70's Show Arrested Development - wasn't a show I watched when it originally aired but I caught it on Netflix and suddenly understood why it's got a cult following
  21. What cez said. I look at these award shows as rich famous people getting together to pat each other on the back. I realize they aren't voting in most cases but to me it's ultimately just one more way for them to get their egos stroked. Now this controversy is a way for them put on their SJW capes and act like they give a crap but it trivializes the real issues.
  22. I hope the staffer sues him as well. What an overrated dumb ass.
  23. This is Manning's last chance at a ring as a player as I can't see Denver keeping him around and any other team he would go to isn't going to be a contender. He's crazy not to retire regardless of the outcome of Super Bowl 50 but I'm sure it's not easy to walk away from doing what you love before you turn 40. Thinking back to yesterday's game and how many chances NE had towards the end to score in situations like that Newton is going to end up running it in sooner or later. Hopefully we just get good game and not a repeat of Super Bowl 48 or this year's NFC championship game.
