Nice to see the Angels doing this.  I can't ever recall them doing this in the past (please correct me if I'm wrong).

That's because I like to move at a Snell's pace.

Can't really agree with this.  To me, it's just a waste of current and future dollars to add a 5 year contract of 25-30m per to a team that is probably a .500 club just in case the young guys show something for next year.  I'd rather wait to make sure.
And that doesn't mean you shouldn't spend.  They absolutely should.  And I agree it shouldn't be on guys where you're trying to catch lightning.  Especially when you need to catch it 3 times in one season.
Try to get one premium player on a 1yr deal.  Someone who's got a good chance of actually having value at the deadline or at least a comp pick in the future.
The problem with Snell is that if the young guys don't perform or take longer than expected, you're into his age 33 season before he could actually make a difference.  In the meantime, you could have turned over two other players for prospects.
Being unrealistic about their chances is how you end up holding your junk like with Rendon.  Or even someone like Simmons.  Great trade.  Awesome value.  And it ended up getting wasted because your complimentary pieces were Johnny G, Rafael Ortega, Daniel Nava, Jhoulys Chacin, Ricky Nolasco, Alex Meyer,  Danny Espinosa, Ben Revere, Cam Maybin, JC Ramirez, Parker Bridwell, and a slew of other waiver pickups and premature callups.
If I could go back and do one thing it would be to change the way they danced between the type of players they added in the offseason and how they parlayed that into future value.
All those opportunities over the years.  Two of the times they did it right are guys now slated to be a big part of this years team (Rengifo and Sandoval).  What if they had done a better job in this area two more times over the last decade?  Add two more solid or even very good players to this team that are club controlled.  Take Anderson's and Rendon's money and put it to better use for a second.
I know I'll probably get called out for hindsight, but I've been preaching this approach for years.

Just a bunch of fake alpha dudes who want to sign a guy because "it would piss off the woke media".
    What a fanbase.

I really hope Hicks isn't taking significant AB's from Adell or Moniak. If we're going for it and Bellinger is taking their AB's - fine. If we're truly rebuilding, I'd like to see Adell and Moniak playing enough to see what we have in them.

He said baseball IS a priority.  Everyone is getting hung up on him saying baseball isn’t a “top priority.”  But then he clearly says the things he considers higher priorities (what do count as his “top” priorities) are his family and his faith.
He could have handled all this better to appease fans thirsty to hate him, but what he ACTUALLY said is pretty hard to criticize.

Rendon news is old. We've known for years he doesn't like baseball but was good at it. It's only an issue now because he's 1. hasn't been good 2. has been hurt a lot. Hopefully that changes this season, though I'm not holding my breathe much on that.

^^^^. I mean, he has the same mentality I have with my job. It’s my job, and my family and interests are more to me than that. It's just a perpetuating loop because they keep asking him. It's not like all of his injuries have been fake or exaggerated either.
Hope he just has a decent, healthy year at this point to help make this noise go away.

Because they keep asking him?  And if he doesn't answer or says no comment then they start a crusade to make him answer and pretend he's a monster for not giving "the fans" the answers they deserve.  A lot of media types these days are about the clicks -- Rendon will get those clicks so long as they ask the questions they know will evoke a reaction.
I'm as tired of the question being asked as I am him always answering truthfully.  I get the feeling people would be happier if he lied.

The fans who bitch about this are really stupid people.
Dude has literally always been this way. It didn't matter when he was one of the best 3B in the game and winning a WS. It doesn't matter that he's helping guys like O'Hoppe out with his swing (probably others, too). People suddenly care because (1) he's injured, (2) not performing well, (3) not lying about baseball being a job. Apparently people would rather he pretend to love the game. Rendon isn't the childish one, the fans upset about this are. Pathetic.

and to me, it would make the team substantially better.
But I don't know man, the baseball people in the front office wouldn't trade Ohtani because they thought they had a chance to make the postseason and liked their chances at retaining the superstar, yet most of the players knew all along he was gone.
The disconnected from the people down on the ground and those in the front office is mind boggling.

He said he wasn't going to add to payroll unless the player would substantially make the team better.
Honestly I think Montgomery and JD Martinez would do that, but that's just me.

    This news sucks.

He's a grumpy, old, penny pinching owner who doesn't seem to know much about baseball, yet insists on making the baseball decisions.

The alarming part is I don’t trust him to know what would and what would not “substantially change the team.”
So if he is going to now be more of a miser, it seems like we should just expect to be terrible, but at a lower budget.  I am jacked to buy some tickets now!

Honestly, if he's gonna spend a pile of money, I'd rather a bunch of it goes into player development, minor leagues, amateur scouting, etc.  Get us out of the perpetual bottom of the organizational rankings.  Please.

I would like to know what is going to be done differently considering that what they've been doing for the last decade hasn't worked while having two generational players on the team

I'd love to hear more on if he's willing to spend on any of the remaining FA's and how the entire thought process of not trading Ohtani thinking they could sign him in the offseason.
