  1. A little more than 3 weeks til UCLA football kicks off. Can't wait.
  2. My initial impression of the LG skin was "Crap! They are morphing into Samsung." What i mean by that is Samsung has continued to add bloatware with each newly released phone. But after looking at all the apps that came with the phone, most of the bloat was from my carrier, Verizon. It's rather easy to disable, even uninstall, whichever apps a user considers "bloat". Simply go into the Application Manager, select the app, and either disable or uninstall app. I ended up disabling or uninstalling approximately 25 apps. Here's a good thread on XDA discussing LG G3 battery life, and how to maximize battery consumption: http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-lg-g3/general/vg985-t2820703. I prefer the LG G3 notification pull down menu from the G2. Volume and screen brightness can be adjusted in the pull down menu; whereas, this could not be done on the Verizon LG G2 (unless your phone was rooted). Also, there can be noticeable lag when using the G3 because of its qHD screen. To reduce, even eliminate, lag go into Developer Settings and turn Animation OFF on the following functions: Windows animation scale Transition animation scale Animator duration scale. My one complaint about the phone is that the battery life does not match the LG G2. Both phones have the same battery size, so the obvious reason battery performance does not match its predecessor is the G3's larger screen display consumes more energy. Where I used to average six hours of screentime on the G2, now it's down to roughly five hours on the G3. And this is without changing the way I use my phone. I still keep the screen at 60% brightness, send 100+ texts, 20+ emails, use Automatic Push for five email accounts, surf Chrome about an hour, use Poweramp with bluetooth earbuds to listen to music for about an hour, and surf Twitter throughout the day. LG G3 battery performance is still superior to the Note 3. But I certainly was spoiled with how awesome the battery is/was on the G2. Let me know what you like/dislike about the G3 when you get it.
  3. Okay. So I saw a deal last week on Craigslist that I couldn't pass up. A brand new LG G3 was listed for $460. I ended up meeting the seller who showed me the phone. Sure enough, it was brand new, never activated. Coming from an LG G2, the screen size is noticeably larger, though the phone is not that much larger in size. LG did a solid job maximizing the space without making the phone as large as the Note 3. When holding the G3 it feels slippery like it can fall out of my hand. For me, this isn't an issue since I always keep my phones in a case. For others who prefer their phones naked, this can be a concern. The screen is phenomenal. I watched several clips from the movie, Elysium in 1080p. Using the BS Player app, the G3's processor played the movie flawlessly without lag. Call quality is solid with clear voice reception. Of note, I was at the Doyer game last night. My wife's iPhone 5 also with Verizon took minutes to send texts containing pictures (MMS). Whereas, the LG G3 was sending picture texts within several seconds. There's more to discuss, but I'll try to leave it short for now. Overall, this phone is amazing. It's size almost puts in the phablet category, even though it's not much bigger than the Galaxy S5 or LG G2.
  4. Happy Conception Day....supposedly. Rather, should we be thanking Chuck's parents?
  5. I prefer to park in the OC Credit Union parking lot. Tailgate legally and the hot dog vendor makes some tasty grub.
  6. Any chance a Reader's Digest version of this thread can be composed for the AngelsWin members who are gainfully employed? I just came out of a meeting and the thread grew another 3 pages.
  7. And here I thought this thread was going to be about the smoking hot brunette with the great rack in the diamond suites behind home plate towards the 3rd base side.
  8. nate: Thank you for sharing. My LG G2 is already rooted. So I'll look at the instructions on XDA how to mod the phone and Chromcast device, if needed. I usually stream my HD movies that are 1080p quality from my laptop via Apple TV to my flatscreen TV. It produces no lag (buffering, choppiness), whereas, I get some lag from Chromecast. But I'll certainly give this a try again.
  9. Epic Jeter ballwashing tonight. Gabe Kapler went BALLS DEEP on Jeter.
  10. Don Baylor = Scioscia's Savior; The anti-Butcher
  11. THE TOILET?? LOLOL Otherwise known as Chavez Latrine. The Angels got their GROOVE back. And the Halos have their own version of Donny Ball.

    LG G2

Rooting does not extend or reduce the life of the phone. I meant to convey that I change phones every 4 to 6 months.

    LG G2

I root all my phones. I want full access to delete apps such as Facebook, GMail, and any manufacturer branded apps. I want as much space on my internal SD card as possible. Also, I may flash a custom ROM on the phone. I sometimes delve into flashing custom kernels that allow a user to regulate/govern the CPU speed.

    LG G2

On average, a phone lasts between 4 to 6 months depending on the quality of the phone and what else is available on the market. I usually trade or sell phones on Craigslist or Swappa.
  15. A good camera is essential on any phone for me. For example, I took my wife and two young children to Photo Day yesterday. I would have struggled taking pictures with an actual camera while juggling the kids and getting them in position to take pictures with the players stopping by.

    LG G2

The Note 3 is a beast. I had mine for nearly 8 months. What irked me was not being able to view the screen clearly in sunlight. The G2's screen does not get washed out like the Note 3's AMOLED screen (or any Samsung phone for that matter). The one negative about the G2 is the weak speakerphone. Other than that, IMO it is the best Android phone on the market today, superior to the M8, Galaxy Note 3, S5, any garbage that Motorola puts out.

    LG G2

2 reasons come to mind. 1. Samsung is locking down their phones. 2. Samsung adds a lot of bloatware (apps) on their phones which eat up internal memory. I was a fan of Samsung. I've had an Galaxy S2, S3, Note 2, S4, and most recent the Note 3. I even have the Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) tablet. With that said, Sammy continues to add more an more apps onto the basic stock ROM. Even before adding any apps from the Google Play store, a Samsung phone has 50 or so core apps. That's ridiculous. I could get around this problem in the past by rooting (even flashing a different ROM) on the phone. But now Samsung is making it more difficult to crack their phones. Coming from a Note 3 with a brief interlude with the HTC One M8, I have returned to using the LG G2. It's a plastic phone similar to Samsung, and the UI is more slick and sleek than Samsung's Touchwiz. Also, battery life is superior to the S4 and even the Note 3 which has a bigger battery size compared to the G2. I'm glad LG produced a solid phone. Samsung seems to have become complacent.
  18. I recently traded my Note 3 for an M8. I was unimpressed. Coming from a Note 3 and an LG G2, the screen display was not as sharp and colors were not as vibrant on the M8 in comparison to the former two. The front speakers are amazing; the best quality about the phone. Also, the metal build is slick, though a non-essential factor to me since I put all my phone in protective cases. But the front camera is disappointing with only 4mp quality. So I ended up selling the M8 on Swappa. Bought a used LG G2 in great condition and netted $200. Let see what the LG G3 brings to the table.
  19. What is a good time to get to the Big A for today's Photo Day? Do a lot of season ticket holders show up?
  20. Mike Butcher...the Mickey Hatcher of pitching coaches.
  21. Come on guys. We know how this ends. Year in and out, Oakland racks up the wins during the regular season. Then, crap the bed in the postseason with quick exits.
  22. Since the phone is rooted, have you tried flashing a third party ROM? I'm wondering if you accidentally removed a system app(s) which could be causing all your phone issues.
  23. The Big Nasty is an Angels, UCLA, and LA Kings fan. What's not to like about the guy?
