  1. Yeah, it's been a pretty freaking huge letdown after what they did last year. Last year they quietly pitched very well but couldn't hit for shit. This year we finally had an offense, and then we had to Angel it.
  2. I vividly remember reading an article once about how the 02 team made it a point to foul off a lot of pitches in spring training. And how they went in to that year basically pesky as hell, driving up pitch counts, until they got something they could hit on a line. And they had a phenom offense that year because of it. But then one time I was having drinks with one of the 02 guys, mentioned that and how cool I thought it was, and he was like "what the hell are you talking about? We didn't do that." So I dunno.
  3. This reminds me of Da Ali G show. I only saw like one episode of it (20 years ago). But the episode I saw, he interviewed a guy from NASA. And the NASA guy was taking about landing on the moon. And Ali G asked if we would ever land on the sun. And the NASA guy was like "No, idiot. It's way too hot" And Ali G asked " what if we went in the winter"
  4. Lots of assholes mentioned here. So I'll throw out Schofield. He was a dick.
  5. FWIW, and I've mentioned this before, but Mathis is adored by MLB. And it makes sense why Sosh was in his corner, when it seemed so stupid.
  6. I've missed most of the last month with things at home. But have been thinking about this the past few days. Fans and it seemed like the team were pretty pumped st the Giolito move. And then bringing in Cron / Grichuk. Not that they were huge adds, but that the team wasn't going to wing it with in house guys like Adams and Fletcher And it just absolutely blew up. And haven't seen it mentioned a lot on here (but I've been busy so maybe I missed it), but Estevez went from dominance to shit in like 2 starts. That was a huge blow to the team.
  7. My favorite part of that AB wasn't Renfroe getting it done, but that on the radio broadcast you could hear Phillies fans razzing Renfroe... yelling "you're on waivers!" I haven't sat in good shit talk seats in years... made me wish I was there To be drunk in public at noon sounds like Bliss right now
  8. I've listened to like 6 innings of baseball the last 2 weeks At least 5 of them I tuned in tight when they blew the lead
  9. He'd die, I assume? I could see him bleeding out from a paper cut.
  10. Absolutely love Torii. Was such a mistake to not keep him. Great to the team, the fans, etc etc. For whatever reason, the moment I remember most about him (as random as this is) was his final game in Oakland as an Angel. Not knowing if he was heading to the NL after the year ended, he sent Popeyes to the Okalnd fans in the RF bleachers. Used to be a video of it on YouTube but I can't find it anymore. But thought it was hilarious, and classy. Met him a few times but never knew him. But was always very friendly.
  11. Just did that this morning. If anything the guy today was an old pro, who wasn't worried about it. Think he was more proud than anything that I knew what his tat was (gang from a city that's not close to my city). I miss my old gang days, when guys would deny up and down they were a gang member. And I'd point out that tattoo on their throat, knowing what it meant. And the, in all honesty, creative explanations they came up with to say it meant something else. Usually it was "my lady's initials, sir"
  12. I'm totally open to that line of critique. And like I stated in the Minor League Taco Bell thread a few years ago, if it's my team, I'm investing everything I can to make it as good as possible. So I think the Angels would, too. That said, CJ Wilson came along just after this team spent a decade as a powerhouse. And had the same training staff basically as the World Series team. And guys I knew personally were gym fanatics, private trainers, meal prep etc. (I vividly remember Howie Kendrick being a crossfit guy before it blew up). My point being that these guys as pro athletes are (IMO) responsible for their fitness and diet. Especially a guy like Pujols that can afford a literal compound at his house to work out at, and an army of personal chefs to make him healthy meals a day.
  13. One of the things I remember specifically being brought up was the post game food in the clubhouse. Again... I kind of rolled my eyes, like "you make more than enough money to buy food you like after work." That said, when I was told what it was compared to several other teams, meh... yeah.... did sound a bit "cheap". Like essentially the "big boy" organizations were serving something an actual chef made after the game, and we were putting out the 5 dollar carry out pizzas from Little Ceasers. One topping only kind of thing.
  14. Funny enough, was just thinking that exact thing a few days ago. And again, I don't say that to defend management. But I go to 2 different gyms, sometimes both on the same day. I'm currently building a mini "just in case gym" in my spare bedroom. I can only imagine what I could build with 250 mill in my pocket. But first among them would have been a massive pool. That I would basically live in.
  15. I'll say this.... and everyone here is free to take it as they want. And I've been a pretty big Moreno supporter over the years, until recently (it's past time to sell). @Jeff Fletcher mentioned things in the org have gotten better recently. And maybe they have (I'll take his word for it). But some years back I was having dinner with a few players. A few were Angels, the others different teams. And we were discussing who the Angels might get in the offseason. And I mentioned whoever I thought at the time they needed. And the table basically laughed and said "no chance". Here's the interesting part... One of the guys told me, almost apologeticly because he knew I was an Angel fan, that "honestly bro... most guys don't want to play here." And i was kind of baffled. Keep in mind this wasn't too far removed from the salad years, where we were one of the best teams in baseball for a decade. And we had signed some pretty big names in recent years. But then collectively they started complaining about how cheap the org was, in comparison to other teams. Now keep in mind the things they mentioned, I took as "you guys are kind of fucking spoiled, if that's what you're complaining about." That being said, when they gave examples of what was the norm for other teams, I could at least understand why if the money is mostly equal, the perks might be the tiebreaker. Again, like I said. The examples I was given that night to me were kind of "cmon dude, grow up." Like CJ Wilson talking about no breakfast or chick fil A. Well, my work (and I'm sure everyone else's here) doesn't give me breakfast either. But I could see it getting old if say you're constantly for example chartering shitty airlines or cheap hotels or something like that. If you know guys on other teams who get first class everything.
  16. Again, I have no idea how the whole thing works. Off the top of my head, I don't remember anyone ever being "blamed" before this. But this (what you mention) is pretty much what I'm getting at. I don't think there was any way around Ohtani or any other pitcher suffering an injury, if the cause of the injury is doing their normal job. If I understand it correctly, breaking pitches are harder on the elbow(?). So should the Angels have had Ohtani only throw fastballs?
  17. Had a shooting this weekend. Nobody hit, but tons of shots fired. So we set up crime tape, start interviewing people, etc etc. So like 40 minutes later, with crime tape up blocking the street, and cops and cop cars everywhere, some dumbass tried to drive through the crime tape (someone always does). So as we go to yell at them (it's a crime scene) we go "say.... you guys look like cholos". And we detain them. ... and get two guns out of it. ... that were used in the shooting. ... and matched a shooting the night before. This isn't me saying "we did good work". It's me saying "youuuuuu literally had an entire other street to turn down... or simply back up.... or at bare minimum, maybe take the bandanas off of your necks while you drive through crime scene tape, with a bunch of cops standing around. That throw Ohoppe made to 1st the other day was less stupid than this.
