  1. I liked EY back in the day. Funny enough, I just briefly looked up his BR. In 96 he won a Silver Slugger award. His OPS+ was 98. Which is... weird. But also, he batted like .330 with almost a .400 OBP. And still had an OPS+ under 100. Thats... wacky.
  2. So basically I'm not crazy right? When the original story was breaking, it was reported as a "spokesman for Ohtani" told Ippei to talk to the media?
  3. If the truth comes out that Ippei asked Ohtani for money for "X" (like investing in something, buying a home etc) and it turns out he was duped and it was for gambling, I can see that and understand it. What I don't get it's that it's been a week now, and Ohtamis people haven't simply explained it like that. No statement at all about how exactly he was victimized, just that he was. That doesn't make sense.... I also don't believe for a second (even of Ohtani was duped) that he didn't find out anything was up until Ippei gave a team meeting. I.... have a really hard time believing ESPN not only had the scoop, but somehow knew to blame Ippei... before the Feds ever at least contacted Ohtani's lawyer to advise him he was being investigated. Doesn't add up...
  4. Yes. No for real. Shirt attention spans and all, but another local got bisted for being a bookie a few years back... several players (Angels included) got wrapped up in it. They never made the news, he did. The whole point in rich dudes and bookies isn't because gambling is illegal (they could easily call someone in Vegas to place bets for everyone), it's because you don't pay taxes on earnings. Period.
  5. Mentioned this somewhere else recently. The media is all over this. The only people who lie about going to UCR are the lower guys trying to bang old chicks at some dive bar in Norco. Or trying to impress their didatant in-laws at the holidays. Nobody actually drops it to get a real job. It's just something you say to other lovers to get laid or to get to back off and leave you alone. It's literally like telling people you take Kung fu if they ask you if you know how to fight. "Well, they stretch before class I guess" and you move on to something else.
  6. "Oye Feds, you like busting gamblers? Big deal going down tomorrow." (Lou would get this dumb joke. And y money is on Cals getting it too, somehow)
  7. Literally made the same comment to a buddy earlier today. Also. The part where Ippeo says "I'll never gamble again" "Bet I can get you gambling by the end of the day!"
  8. Also, I read his new wife is a pro athlete. Are we sure this is true love, or just more insider tips?...
  9. Plot twist. Trout didn't know because there never was a girlfriend. Last week when this story was breaking, Shohei was watching Shawshank Redemption, and the part where Andy tells the asshole guard "do you trust your wife" and on and on about the IRS. So he's faking being married because he thinks wives protect you from the IRS (Remember that he watched this without Ippei, so he didn't understand the whole scene exactly how Andy said it)
  10. Can you imagine that flight home, for Ippei? Alone on a 14 hour or so flight... just git fired... lost your job that was cush as hell... ... possibly looking at being charged?
  11. I'm late to all this (and the story is crazy). Not too familiar with any of it. Will have to read more when I have the time. ... but how did Ippei run up a several million dollar debt? And the answer here isn't "he's addicted". It's Who, when he owed one million, kept letting him bet more? It's one thing if he was a celebrity/athlete/oligarch etc. But "I work for Ohtani" im doubting gets him a pass from whoever was taking his bets.
  12. Didn't see this before, but this is great. Loved both of those guys
  13. I saw something that they are meeting with Domingo German. We lost our Japanese and are replacing him with a German. Arte finally believing in WAR it looks like.
  14. As far as impact, this guy needs to be mentioned. Was a good leadoff hitter for us, and the team fell apart without him. Supported local business. Spent time with local auxiliaries like the Police, etc.
  15. Easily forgotten, but... McLemore especially seems like a snub, for whatever reason.
  16. Was at the game for Pujols hitting 600. It was cool. I was too young to appreciate the other ones, but I grew up a huge Reggie fan so I was as excited as a kid could be... who didn't actually see it, just read it in the paper.
  17. She's actually trained at my gym a few times. Cool as hell. My coach is pretty connected, so we randomly have some pretty big named people show up to work on something.
  18. I would. If he was earning his keep, I'd be saying " I like watching him play baseball, and I like that he's a WW2 buff."
