  1. Best player available is highly subjective. Was Adams the best player available? Absolutely not. That said, you draft on what the player could provide to the club during his years before reaching FA + probability levels he reaches certain value levels of production. Adams has the potential to be an All-Star type player. He could also be a bust and never reach the Show. Wide distribution of outcomes. if you like the player’s makeup you take this risk. The athletic talent is obvious. Baseball is increasingly a game dominanted by elite athletes.
  2. This. You don’t think the Angels talked numbers with dude, his family, etc. if he signs with the Angels and decides to go back to school in the future his contract will require the tea pay for his education.
  3. You don’t take relievers in the first round. College relievers have a terrible track record as top draft picks.
  4. Why do folks think Scioscia won’t be reupped? I’m genuinely confused here. Did I miss something in the news of late.
  5. Really like the Adams pick, assuming he signs. Although he’s one of those prospects that hit in front of the right scouts at the right time... he’s athleticism is indisputable. If he puts the work in he could be a stud. these are the types of risks we should be taking.
  6. Little interest in Puig. We need another LH bat to complement The GOAT, Upton and Escobar.
  7. We desperately need Barria and Ohtani as starters. I have absolutely no idea why you are calling to change Ohtani’s role midseason. That is insane. Dude signed with the Angels based on their player development plan for him to start and hit.
  8. If it were a baseball decision he surely would be Appiered by now. He doesn’t being in The Show anymore.
  9. https://www.billjamesonline.com/should_the_angels_release_albert_pujols/ Agree with the points. If TheAlbertross doesn’t show signs he has regained his hitting skill by the All Star Break the team really needs to Appier him.
  10. A lot of big life changes the past few years. No longer live in the LA designated media market. Look forward to Angels baseball in 2018.
  11. Senzel is ready so one would think the Reds would be willing to move Suarez. Would take more than Skaggs and "low level prospects". Would likely take Skaggs and some of our better low-level prospects. Small market teams would be intrigued by Suarez given how little service time he has racked up.
  12. Ohtani won't receive "real money" until after 2023 when he's a free agent. Even if he signs long term before that the contract would factor in his expected arb numbers. Any contract that is way above market value for his arb years would trigger an strong investigation by MLB.
  13. Perhaps, yet it is more about effort re: injury risk (and obviously genetics). Thor threw his FB with max effort far too frequently. Fell in love with the pitch. Hopefully Ohtani understands his skill set better.
  14. This. Arte still has a thing against Boras. Must bug Arte he sees Boras at nearly every home game sitting behind home plate. Boras paying for the seats hardly helps take the sting off for Arte.
  15. I would love to have Machado. I agree that likely is what he lands. I agree on the need to try and maintain payroll flexibility though. Remarkable how well Ohtani fits in to long term payroll projections. The Albertross's contract ends in 2021. 2022 will be Ohtani's arb 2 year.
  16. Magical. First time I’ve had hope for this franchise in years. Absolutely magical. Kudos to the entire FO.
  17. We don't have the prospects to land Yelich. Not even worth talking about. Stanton is owed $285 million through 2027. I imagine a lot of teams will kick the tires, including the Cardinals, Red Sox, Yankees, Giants, Phillies... perhaps the Astros. Basically the same teams that will be offering Harper and Machado $300-$400 million deals after 2018. I would be surprised if the Cubs, Dodgers, Mariners or any other team gets involved. TheAlbertross is signed through 2021. Trout will hopefully be resigned after 2020. Although its tough to build a competitive roster around 3 position players making $90 million I absolutely think we should be in on Giancarlo trade discussions. That said, I doubt Arte goes down this road. It will take a number of solid prospects to land Giancarlo in addition to taking on the entire contract. That said, he's from Panorama City. Could help.
  18. TheAlbertross now owns the worst WAR amongst hitters among players who qualified for the batting title (-1.7 per FanGraphs). I'm getting tired of all this winning we were promised when he was signed. It's just been embarrassment after embarrassment after embarrassment. Sad!
  19. Ideally an off-season without surgery for TheAlbertross helps return him to at least being useful. The organization needs to have a talk with him this offseason... After he reaches 3,000 hits, and if he doesn't show any real life in ST or when the season starts, you really need to gracefully move on from TheAlbertross.
  20. Trading Stanton is clearly the best baseball move. That said, I don't see the Marlins moving Stanton. The local fan base would just treat the new ownership as the new Loria.
  21. Kung Fu Panda had nearly $60 million left when the Red Sox Appier'ed him.
  22. All good. TheAlbertross will show up next spring "in the best shape of his life". If dude actually plays out his contract he likely ends up with a career negative WAR with the Halos. Per Fangraphs WAR calculations he's currently sitting at a pathetic 7.6 career WAR with the Halos. A quarter billion dollars clearly doesn't buy what it once did - thanks Arte!
  23. Name the only player in MLB with a worse WAR this year amongst qualified PAs than TheAlbertross? Pujols has a 71 wRC+. Jeff Mathis has a 57 wRC+ so far this year. Factoring in defense and Jeff Mathis has been a vastly better and more productive player than TheAlbertross this year. That is remarkable.
