  1. Short answer: Before the Phillies. Long answer: August 3rd
  2. Cassevah will pitch well for some team like the Pirates, who will ultimatley have no effect on us. I'm more worried about "Craig Kimbrel 2" aka Jordan Walden, who will--like Fernando Rodney-- become unbelievably dominant as soon as he gets coached by someone not named Mike Butcher
  3. Here's what I picked up from the game: Hamilton hit a homer in March. Contract = validated. Barry Enright is not as good as Jered Weaver Mike Trout is a clutch walking machine Bourjos was awesome for a while but went back to skuing
  4. Pfft, Vernon can reach 3rd on a lazy pop-up
  5. A win in September is far more valuable / "clutch" than a win in April, that's for sure
  6. It doesn't cost the govt. much if any additional money to have the planes fly over a game when those flights / training exercises are done anyway as part of pilot proficiency training. If they don't do the flights over a game they'll just do the same number of flight-hours elsewhere.
  7. I'll just mention examples from August on: Pinch run for Morales in scoring position in a one-run away game to avoid the game going into extra innings instead of worrying about "gutting the lineup" in the 12th+ inning. Remove a struggling starter before he singlehandedly gives up a 8-0 lead Keep a starting pitcher 2 outs away from complete game shutout in the game. That plus not phoning it in the last two days of the regular season (post elimination) = wildcard.
  8. gotta gain weight to lose weight kinda like how you have to spend money to make money... or at least that's the theory
  9. I'm a bit concerned about particular players (PBK living up to his name). Losing all these games is a reminder that our depth in the high minor leagues sucks, we unfortunately already knew this. However that does mean that the Angels will be in bad shape if any of our regular starting pitchers go down with injury, moreso than teams like OAK and LAD who seem to have a glut of good pitching.
  10. Combine that with reaching 3B on a dropped popup on Sunday and it's starting to look like Wellsy is a productive pop-up machine
  11. Apparently Clayton Kershaw is a better pitcher than Jerome Williams
  12. Just find a stock photo of John Lackey and call it a day
  13. Better than taking a $42 million haircut + the opportunity cost of a good player not obtaining a roster spot.
  14. They might even have some sort of boilerplate license agreement for trademarks held by people in the Angels organization should the Angels decide to sell these in the stores.
  15. By crashing into the catcher there's a good chance the catcher drops the ball and the runner can reach back and tag the base afterward, like what happened in the Erstad video. They may feel theri chances of knocking the ball out of the catcher's hand is better than avoiding the sweep tag. I personally think the NCAA rule listed makes the most sense -- call the runner out for interference if he goes out of the basepath to intentinoally knock the ball out of the catcher's hands.
  16. What will this mean for Jays / Twins / Tigers fans when Vernon Wells and Torii Hunter buy the Angels?
  17. I wish I was actually up 4 lbs from the end of last season
  18. Like a younger, cheaper, skinnier version of Vernon Wells
  19. I don't think the Angels are in a position to be cutting potential starting pitching depth of any kind.
  20. and for only $0.50 more than overpriced Diablo Stadium Bud Light, who can resist
  21. If Calhoun looks dramatically better than Wells by the end of spring, we need to trade Wells for peanuts or DFA him and just cut our losses on the money.
  22. They should consider Athletes take home pay after taxes is when setting the luxury tax thresholds. CA teams have to overbid ~10% more than teams based in TX to match what the player will actually get.
