  1. I am not advocating steroid use. I am arguing they have no effect. In every study that views the affect of users to nonusers show that, which is more than this article. I was only addressing with the comment you were replying too is why players take them. It's essentially a placebo. People take things they think improves their ability all the time.
  2. Same reason people wear balance bracelets or change socks after every loss.
  3. Well, if that's your response I am not convinced you read the article because there was a whole section dedicated to him as a case study.
  4. The best thing the Pirates have going for them is no one is close to the second wild card. Even if they regress they look like they are set.
  5. Well, it is essentially a placebo, so I am sure it does give them more confidence.
  6. http://steroids-and-baseball.com/actual-effects.shtml It's a pretty unpopular opinion, but I felt this was worthy of discussion. Statistics show that steroids have exactly no effect on performance.
  7. They will most definitely end up as the second wild card. Really excited to probably in the playoffs.
  8. Although, I think the Angels win based it on being the Astros, I can't help imagine how hilarious this place would be if the Astros somehow won again.
  9. Exactly this. Lost in the Blue Jays improvement is them moving Bautista to the two-hole. Their offense although only slighly improved, they have improved. Definitely helped with them getting back in the race.
  10. Clutch stats are just using an extremely small sample size in extremely specific conditions. It's as bad as using the last 50 at bats of a player to judge them. Trout had very good clutch marks last year.
  11. Number three spot gets the two outs and no one on situation the most of any spot.
  12. We got our ass kicked by the Mariners. What you just described was baseball. Baseball is kind of random. Not completely random, but any team can win a series.
  13. NL Central has the better differential overall and the three best records in baseball.
  14. Bleacher report is a broken 24 hour clock.
  15. http://espn.go.com/mlb/injuries Quite a few actually.
  16. Nah, injuries to arms in the past were a lot more prevalent. Most where not physical freaks like Cy Young.
  17. They were an okay team last year too, they just lost three of their five starting pitchers in the same week. They are an improved team from last year who suffered major injury bad luck.
  18. That's more my fault than yours. You said eight games and I thought you were talking about the Blue Jays.
  19. It's an 11 game streak and a three game sweep of the Orioles. 10-21, 17-15, and 11-0 This is their stretch of ball games. And even though 11-0 is not sustainable, they are improving, and they are not terribly constructed. Most of their core players were/are injured. You don't outscore teams 57 - 22 by luck. They are better than a .500 team.
  20. Doesn't matter. Keep Trout, Bourjos, and Trumbo. Rebuild around them.
  21. Ten game winning streak north of the border and about to be eleven with an absolute trashing of the Orioles.
  22. Not really. http://deadspin.com/5954443/the-pirates-lied-about-a-prospect-who-got-hurt-during-some-team+sanctioned-military+type-exercises
  23. Their differential is only +10 and they have sucked the last 20 years. Not sure why you want to emulate the Pirates.
