Cool, I guess. It's hard to get too excited when the next add is likely to be Adam Duvall. Hopefully it means, Arte has gotten over his Ohtani went to the Dodgers pity party and is actually planning on opening up the wallet and letting Perry do his job.

I think blaming the market or Arte for a lack of progress is pretty ignorant. It doesn't seem like he has a plan.
This is really kind of a stupid post. If Arte won't spend money, you're gonna blame the GM? You can sprinkle sugar on that shit, but don't call it candy.

Not sure bringing in a free agent starter has to be significantly better than the alternative. Considering the injuries we've dealt with, as long as we're not bringing someone in who is worse, it's worth doing, imo. But obviously if we want to compete, the better option would be someone like Montgomery (not happening).

In your scenario, the simplest solution is to have Silseth serve as a long man. Its not like he's established himself as a legit starter, if anything he's a question mark as a 40/40 pitcher. Historically guys with hard hit rates over 40% and GB rates over 40% tend to see regression. It's a little murkier with him because he basically had two seasons, it seemed like something clicked, but he still gave up a ton of hard contact.
Not sure how we got from "we need two starters" to "we have no room because we're forcing Silseth into the rotation". I know a lot of people want to trade Anderson, but I'm more inclined to let the new pitching coach work with him since the dude himself said the Angels had him change his pitching approach last season. Going away from what was working is kind of a dumb idea imo.

I believe Heyman also said the Angels are interested in Matt Chapman too.
Eww. Screw that guy. He sucks.

But I want the Angels to have no part of him just because I think they need 7 inning quality starts more than 5 frame shutouts.
Nobody pitches 7 innings anymore. A handful of pitchers average 6, but we don't even see all that many complete games these days. Personally, I'd take 5 shutdown innings in a heartbeat.

If Montgomery goes to Texas and Snell go to someone other than halos which starting pitcher do you go after.
Low-key offseason, so Loki Lorenzen, obviously.

Exactly where I am. Doubt his ability - no. Doubt he will remain upright -- YES.
Same with Trout, it's all fluke stuff, but somehow it just feels like it's inevitable there will be more this season.

Any article that factors Rendon into any hopes of Angel success will miss the mark on multiple levels
Any fans who think the Angels have the slightest chance at competing without Rendon being healthy are kidding themselves.

Geez, I swear some of the posters on this thread spend most of their time on the Angels' Reddit sub.
I'm not really expecting much from Trout or Rendon at this point. They're both capable of elite play when healthy, but each year something keeps it from happening. The funny thing about projecting the Angels to be worse with Ohtani gone is it ignores the fact that we've gotten next to nothing from Rendon (and not a ton from Trout) since 2020. If somehow they were miraculously both healthy, the offense is better even without adding anyone and losing Ohtani.

Surprised by this.
His poor year with Seattle probably hurt his value a lot more than he anticipated. He'll try to recoup value with LA and go for another round in FA next season.

When trout plays he's still very good. When Rendon plays he's terrible. Just because they've both been injured doesn't mean they're in similar categories
I get that everyone hates Rendon, but he's also either been injured or coming off an injury in the very few games he's actually played. Considering the injuries he's dealt with, I wouldn't be surprised if he's cooked at this point, but don't know. We also don't know if Trout will ever be better than he was last season, which was just very good by the standards of the rest of the league but was pretty lousy compared to who he's been. Definitely not MVP level anymore. And we haven't seen him since the last injury.

Doesn't Imanaga have to agree to a deal within like the next day or something?

Rendon is no longer a good baseball player.
This is like saying Trout is no longer a good baseball player. No, that is incorrect, he simply hasn't been healthy since 2020. Will he ever be healthy again? Will Trout. If not, we're screwed anyway, but fans don't seem to want to acknowledge that.

Would you refer to a man as a "gold digger"? Or are we resorting to Kanye West levels of discourse?
Extorting him for a payout fits the category in my book, but maybe it doesn't in fantasy land, I dunno...

While in general it is fair to say that accusers don't lie about sexual assault, there are a couple of mitigating factors in Bauer's case.
The first accuser has been proven to be a gold digger. That isn't really in doubt at this point. AFAIK, she was the first one to bring legal action and the others came out of the woodwork later. Does that mean the others are also liars? By his own admission, Bauer enjoyed rough sex and had casual encounters with numerous women. Given Bauer's wealth, there is a lot of incentive to play up accusations especially if you're the type of person who has a lot of sex with no regular partner. They have no relationship with him and no reason for loyalty to him. Also, afaik the only case that was resolved ended with him being effectively exonerated. Until there is something more meaningful, I see nothing to indicate Bauer should be blackballed beyond liking weird sex and being an idiot about who he chooses to sleep with. -

Good. We weren't going to get him and that's one less pitcher needed.

Too many people on here are conflating what they would do or think should be done with what they think the Angels will do.
My reading of the situation is that they are probably in a weird position where Arte doesn't want to rebuild, but also doesn't want to actually overspend on mediocre players, which is why we're not doing anything. So, we have money to spend and we're 'in' on some of the top players, but will we actually sign them? Depends which side of the bed Arte rolls awake off of. It also depends on what Perry's strategy is, since he seems to be slightly better at influencing Arte than his predecessors.
-
Snell is a yes for me. Biggest impact player we could actually get. Yes, his inability to pitch past the fifth is not ideal, but I'd rather have 5 elite innings than 6 mediocre ones.
Bellinger is almost certainly going to be massively overpaid. I don't hate the player, but he was not good at all for two seasons before that and was already showing warning signs in 2020. And as has been noted, there are big questions surrounding the sustainability of his success in 2023. Just feels like much more obvious risk that isn't factored into what he's going to be paid. I'd rather take a flyer on Teoscar, personally.

congrats!
He also confuses himself with Minasian and/or Arte. "I see..." "I would".
Apparnetly he believes that because he thinks that's what they should do that it's what they will do.

Yeah, going into the season with a team that can't stay healthy and the next guys up being effing Zach Plesac in the rotation, and Jake Marisnick in the outfield is a really smart idea. Who tf needs depth anyway?
